Do You Ever Want to Wear Your Wedding Dress?

I know this is kind of silly, but my wedding anniversary is coming up and for some reason I have been thinking about my wedding dress. Its stored at my parents house and when I was over there the other day I put it on! I love it SO much and it took my breath away and brought back great memories. I want to do something with it. I know a lot of people do trash the dress pictures, but I would never trash my dress! Am I being a big weirdo or do you miss your wedding dress? I am going to have it preserved in case my daughters ever want to wear it, but for some reason Im just not ready to hang it up yet!

What can I do next?

I had mine made into a baptismal gown for my daughters. Best looking baptismal gown I've ever seen. ;)

No... I hated my dress, my shoes, my hair, and my makeup. My grandma picked my dress and accessories out and I was miserable wearing it.

Doesn't matter tho - b/c my day was still special b/c I married my hubby. I never cleaned my dress or had it stored. It is still sitting in the back of my closet with dirt on it and a big ole rip in the train.

We were married in Niagra Falls and after the wedding I walked over to the falls and threw my UGLY shoes in. It made me smile after the fact :)

Yes! I wear mine around the house sometimes. No really, I do! Totally Monica from Friends :) Mine was a prom dress that I used for a wedding dress. It's beautiful and so a few times I've put it on and danced around the house. My daughter put on her flower girl dress and we played "princess."

Now her flower girl dress doesn't fit anymore :(

I seriously think people need to have more fancy balls! How fun would that be?

I actually didn't preserve mine b/c in all reality so few people wear their mother's gown. Unless yours is "timeless" (and some are) and can be altered to fit your daughter, then preserving it is a huge expense!

My wedding gown is beautiful. I love it- felt beautiful in it and it was exactly what my husband pictured me wearing... when I took it to be tailored (tons of bead work) and rebustled, the seamstress mentioned that she could, if I wanted her to, make a baptismal gown out of it after the wedding. We took her up on the offer and had a gown and blanket made out of it and it is beautiful!! My son wore a simple white pants outfit and had the blanket wrapped around him. My godchild (niece) wore the gown and if we have a little girl the next time around then I can 100% guarantee that she will "wear" my wedding gown! My grandchildren may wear it too!

I would probably have my dress dyed and wear it out someplace special with husband if I could get into the darn thing. Since being married for almost 2 years I have experienced some growth and develoment. I'm basically 15 pounds heavier and about 2 iches on each of my measurments. I'm no longer a size 6 but a solid 8. It is just the way it is and I'm resolved that I will be able to look at that dress but not wear it again.

I can always have another one made if I'm really feeling like I have to wear it. It was a very customed sexy dress.

Wore it once and put it in the closet along with all the other wedding stuff. My oldest wore my garter when she got married and the rest of it still sits in the closet. If I had a traditional dress I'd probably donate it to newbornsinneed.org so it could be transformed into something useful.

SO WISH I could :-) I actually debated that if I cut it to knee length and dyed it a soft lavender color I could wear it to someone else's wedding :-) But that was 4 years ago and now my Perfect size 6 does Not fit after having Mikey! lol
It was a Prom dress that was PERFECT For our Aruba wedding !!!!! It looks like a Grecian goddess dress !! LOVE IT!
One day this bod will get back into it and maybe I'll do just what I had planned.....
I ADORE getting All Dressed up !!!

I renewed my vows last year and had it altered - though I will never wear it again (yep 2 times was plenty lol) it's totally do-able as a nicer summer dress. Heck I'll attach a pic if i can find one...my thoughts...put it on and wander around the house in it - you can be Monica from Friends and do the dishes while wearing it...lol

Oh yeah - I also had a dress made for my daughter from my dress (the part they removed to alter it) so sweet

You don't have to do a "trash the dress" session, but do consider having a portrait session done, especially if you didn't have a private bridal session before your wedding. A nice 16x20 print hanging in your home will allow you to enjoy your dress everyday, without having to unpack it or put it on. Just a thought!

I am a wedding and portrait photographer and if you're interested in a session, feel free to contact me!

My neice and her friends all had a party where they wore their wedding dresses. (girls night-in party) I loved the pictures they took and posted on FB! So cool and what a fun way to get a little more use out of the dress. I've also seen people use the train to make christening gowns or baby blankets (soft flannel on one side, satin-lace on the other...)

My dress is simple--ivory, sleeveless, bias cut, floor length with train/tail, V-neck in front and back. I saw it in my head and went out and found it for a couple hundred bucks. I could conceivably wear it for a formal occasion, but every time I think about it, I think that people will assume that I'm wearing my wedding dress. I don't know why that bothers me. One of these days....

I don't know yet. Right now it is hanging up in my closet taking up way too much room. There is so many things I can do, like alter it to a shorter length. One of my daughters friends kept going on that she wants to wear it.

I will probably have it altered so I can wear it again. I learned with my first wedding there is little chance my daughters will want to wear it.

Yes, mine is sooo pretty, and it still fits 22 years later! I've put it on a few times, and it seems a waste to have it hanging in the closet, but what do you do... It will never fit my daughter, as she takes after her dad and is going to be a tall/big beautiful girl.

Nothing wrong with that! Mine was preserved in a box, by my mom without asking me what I thought, and we got it out for a friend to borrow - though it didn't fit, and then later my good friend (like a sister) wore it for her wedding, and that was so special!!! I'd love someone else to wear it too, but know many women want to buy their own.

I'd suggest getting a nice garment bag, put some ceder chips in the bottom, and enjoy getting it out to wear whenever you want to! :)

I used to put mine on every year on my anniversary, but 18 years on I can't fit in it any longer!!
At one stage it was my motivation to lose my baby weight from having twins - it worked but since moving to the USA it has crept back on!!!
Enjoy your dress...

My friend just had her wedding dress made into a Christmas Tree skirt. She got married in December so now every anniversay she wil get to see it under the tree. I thought that was a nice idea.
I am not even sure where my wedding dress is. I think it's somewhere in my attic. I have put it on from time to time since the wedding, and now you've made me want to track it down again. Let's go see if I can still get that dress on.

Mine has been in the closet all cleaned and preserved for the last 19 years. EVERY DAY I think about taking it down and trying it on. It'll be a little small but I think I could stil get in to it. I just don't feel right about "breaking into" the box.

I have loved both my wedding dresses. The first one was a traditional princessy wedding dress, and I have it preserved in a box. For my second wedding, I wore a very non-traditional wedding dress -- it was a very beautiful evening gown, and would be appropriate for any formal occasion. Unfortunately, I've gained a little weight, but this conversation is motivating me to work at it so that I can wear that dress again should an occasion come up.

I loved my dress and have it preserved in a box. Maybe my daughter will want it or maybe not. I know after 9 years and 2 babies I would not fit in it right now. My bridesmaids had tie dye dresses that could have been worn again if they liked them.

I got married almost 2 years ago so I don't think about wearing it. Although I do recall the "fun" my husband had unzipping it, unlacing it and unbuttoning it on our wedding day...so I think on our 5 year anniverary I will surprise him and wear it so we can "reinact" our wedding day...

If you have girls I know jukievision on etsy turns things like wedding dresses or baptism gowns into wediing purses (for the next generation). Or you could have it sewn into other important dresswear (baptism, communion dresses). I personally had mine boxed/preserved.

On you wedding anniversary make a special dinner for you and your husband and then put your dress on and wear it. At this time you can recommit to your marriage and celebrate your love, then hang it away again until another anniversary maybe one of significant number. Sounds like something I may have to try next year as my anniversary is past and oops both my husband and I forgot about. Happy Anniversary and enjoy!
