Do You Ever Call to 'Compliment'?

Just wondering if you've ever called a store to say what a great experience you had and how wonderful the employee who helped you had treated you? Complaints are more common and someone will take the time out to complain, but does anyone take a few to call and compliment?

What can I do next?

You know I never have, but after reading this I will. There is a cashier @ the Giant I frequent who is very efficient and pleasant. I look for her when I go and she always remembers me. I tell others about her, but never thought to let her boss know. I def will call to let them know. We are too quick to complain but not to compliment. Thanks for posting this question!

Yes, I do. I have also asked to speak to the manager before leaving. It's kind of fun, actually... They are always expecting a complaint and are always so pleased that I want to pay a compliment! I decided some years ago, if I'm going to complain about bad experiences, I should also compliment good ones.

I have called! I think it's a shame to only bring complaints to the manager's attention. It's also kind of fun to hear the shocked "Thank you!" that results from calling in a compliment. :)

I've never called a store, but I do have a story for you.

A few years ago I got a flat tire on the highway on my way to work. It was drizzly/raining & I was pulled into the median because I had been in the fast lane when the tire blew out. I had the car jacked up, the lugnuts loosened, & the spare pulled out before ANYONE bothered to stop & see if I needed help. A Delaware state worker saw me from the other side of the highway & drove his state vehicle through the grass to come help me finish up. I was so relieved I took his name down & emailed the head of his department when I got to work about what a huge help he had been & how much I appreciated it. The following day his supervisor emailed me back & thanked me for my email & told me they'd given him a bonus day off to reward him. What goes around comes around, that's for sure!!

I have. Actually, I called Public Storage just last month to compliment the gal who took my call.
I have also called Amazon to let them know how much I appreciated their phone support.
I emailed walgreens and I frequently pull a manager over to the side at a grocery store/target to let them know how wonderful X was.
We live in a world that is so quick to complain, I try to be as quick with a compliment and if I don't do it right away, I forget - sad, I know.

Yes, and employees love it! It's the easiest thing in the world to complain. Compliments and praise are very, very rare. Sweet*tooth is right - it's like free money, only better!

My husband is one to make sure an employee gets recognition when he gets good service. I think it's so cute. He'll ask the employee who his immediate supervisor is and then he goes and tells them what a great job the person did.
I usually just compliment the person and dont go out of my way to tell their boss. But you are right, it should be done more often. Funny how negativity seems much easier to share than positivity.

Yes! On my son's birthday, I had ordered a cake from Wal-Mart. It was a SpongeBob Themed Cake. When I ordered, the lady gave me her name and asked me all of the particulars I would like. She mentioned that she would be the one to make it. When I picked it up, she wasn't around and I didn't untape it to look it over. Well, when we arrived at the party and I opened it, I was absolutley amazed at how fantastic it was! I mean it looked better than the picture. My son was thrilled! A few days later I went back to Wal-Mart and asked for her. She came out, with a terrified look on her face, and I asked her if she remembered making our particular cake. She did and I explained how impressed and happy we were with her awesome cake. She immediately got all teary eyed, which in turn, made me teary eyed as well. She looked as though no one had ever thanked her much less gave her a compliment. It made my day and I hope it make her day as well.

I alway do!! Many times I do it in person if I am there but often times I am receiving some sort of service over the phone and a great job with patience should be acknowledged. Maybe it's because I worked in restaurants all through high school and college, maybe because I am in sales but I really feel people should be recognized for a job well none not just a complaint.

YES I have! The CVS by me has this wonderful woman who has always remembered me from day one, even if the kids weren't with me... she always says hello, remembers little things (like if I was buying medicine for my sick husband, the next time she'd ask if he was feeling better)... She definitely goes above and beyond her job, and I appreciate it, and I hope she's compensated for that!!

I have not actually called to compliment, but I have done emails to compliment before. I actually sent an email to my grocery store's corporate headquarters before to compliment one of the assistant managers because she really went out of her way to help me. Shortly after that I got a thank you card in the mail from her saying that she appreciated the compliment and that the higher ups had also noticed. I was glad to hear that they took my feedback seriously and it didn't just go into a black hole.

Yes I have and I do!
People are quick to call and complain, but I think we all should be just as quick to compliment. I have called pizza shop, restaurants, our market's deli, etc. specifically to compliment employees and make sure their manager knows what a great job they do!

I've never called, but I have written and emailed before. I agree with you, people are quick to contact when they had a bad experience, but not so much with a positive one. The other day my son's haircut wasn't good and I took him back and they fixed it for free. They also were very helpful on some advice about my own hair care. I emailed and stated my satisfaction and that I'd be returning again.

yes. ususally while i'm ther I will seek out a mgr and compliment. More often I call when I get good phone service. People I come across in my professional life, I email thier superiors and cc them on it to say great job and i give specific things they did that were helpful. I agree, we only ever hear from the unhappy people, not enough of the good experiances are reported.

All the time. Most recently was yesterday, when a representative at Amex went above and beyond for my boss.

I was a manager in a customer service center for over 7yrs and always make a point to compliment more than complain.

Yep more often than not. Especially in industries not usually know for compliments. The manager at McDonalds knows me by now, there is a couple people in their that just make me smile. I rarely ever go anymore, cause ew McDonalds, but the mamgaer is very invloved in the community and really truly has a good staff for a fast food joint.

Absolutely! And in these tough times...it only takes a moment or two to really make someone's day. :) In addition to stores, I've e-mailed school teachers to compliment them and I cc the principal + the school superintendent. Those doing "above and beyond" deserve to be recognized.

I have absolutely written letters to store managers to compliment an employee. I figure a letter is more likely to end up in an employee file and be recognized long-term.

O yes! If its a store, cable company wherever I always give compliments when its needed. I worked in customer service for a long time and all I ever heard was complaining. I make sure managers know when a employee goes the extra mile or is at least helpful!

The most I usually do, whether I'm complaining or complementing, is to put a review online and tell my friends about my experience.
