Do You Crochet? Someone?? Anyone???

I have wanted to learn for a long time... picked up several books and patterns here and there, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot make heads or tails of the crochet-speak...

So I looked up some tutorials online, and voila! I've got it! Ok, not really, but once I get started on the particular pattern, I'm fine... I did have some aunts and grandmas teach me the basics (chain, double crochet), but I can never get the hang of a pattern until someone shows me what to do...

Anyhow, I found a really simple tutorial for a beanie hat for babies, and I've crocheted like 100 little beanie hats for my lil girl (and elnarged the pattern and made one for my son, too, and he LOVES it)... Anyhow, I got this most precious, delicious lemon yellow, soft, fuzzy yarn, and I will be making yet another hat for her... LOL... But I'd REALLY love to have a matching sweater. I have googled for easy sweater tutorials, and I'm not having any luck. I just want a VERY basic cardigan type sweater. no collar, nothing fancy. The yarn is so pretty, I just want a very plain sweater pattern. Anyone have one? OR know of an easy online tutorial for a basic baby sweater?

Thanks, Ladies!

Hi L.

There are several sites that I go to for free patterns, but 'hooked on crochet' is one I use quite a bit...they sometimes have 'tutorials'...but I mostly use their free patterns as a 'jumping off' point...

There are several more...when I think of them...I'll private you!!

If I can help 'talk you thru' a pattern...private me!!

Best luck!

There is a book out there something about teach yourself crochet visually, that a friend of mine swears by. I haven't looked for it but I have the same trouble as you. I know the basics and can watch a video and then do what they do, but patterns in books and such might as well be written in Greek.

I crochet but only long lines. Good enough to make a scarf I guess, which is fine b/c I've made a scarf to go exactly w/any coat or jacket or shirt I have.

That is about as fashion conscious as you'll get out of me.

I love YouTube tutorials. You can find how to do videos on anything. I learned how to use an electric razor to cut my son's hair on there.

The Loin Brand yarn company has a huge number of free patterns on their web site. Making a sweater you just need to crochet the basic shapes for the front, back and sleeves and then sew them together. If you can make a crochet rectangle you can probably do it. A good pattern will give you the shape and measurements of each piece. You can just do a basic stitch like double crochet and make sure you have the right size and shape measurements.

Have you looked at ravelry.com? They have lots of things. You can even narrow your search to just crochet and free patterns. I always narrow it even further to pictures. Good luck!
