Do Yogurt Tubes Travel Ok?

Going to NYC from TX - forgot to freeze yogurt tubes. We're going to be there till Sunday and everything costs so much I was just going to pack a half dozen with little icepacks cause they fall under the 3oz rule with tsa. I think they'll stay cool. Does yogurt go "bad" if it's not super cool for a few hours?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Those yogurt tubes are so disgusting cold, they must be vile when they're warm. If they're going to be warm for more than a few minutes, then no, they should not be eaten. They should be kept refrigerated and cold before being eaten.

You can get this information from the FDA and CDC. It's readily available all over the internet.

From the TSA website:

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. O.-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.

Here's the website:

I think once the yogurt didn't feel "cool" to the touch, I'd consider it done.

What you're not considering is the ice packs as part of the 3-1-1 rule....or maybe you're putting it in checked baggage?

I always freeze them but try buying some dry ice and keep it in the cooler with the yogurt tubes, it should be ok!

Yes. they do travel well. Call your airport security BEFORE you go - make sure this is allowed. Some foods are allowed. Some are not. And remember it's 3-1-1 - 3 ounces in one bag for ONE person.

Save travels!!

Just make sure that all the little ice packs AND the yogurt tubes fit in one quart size zip bag, or else they won't make it through airport security. And yes... yogurt can go bad if it's not kept cool. It's a dairy product, not something I'd mess around with.

I can't imagine it would be a problem. They are sealed tubes of yogurt. Yogurt is made by fermentation of natural cultures, which will help keep them okay for a while when warm. Kind of like cheese.

Good luck. Different things happen at different airports. In Los Angeles, security opened both of my son's sealed babyfood jars. On the way out, in Dallas, they didn't open the babyfood I brought. I would not be surprised if they have a problem with the yogurt tubes. A little note of caution...don't be like me and put your camera in your checked bag, it will probably get stolen. I have flown MANY times...this is the first time I put my camera in my checked bag, I should have known better!! Its gone and I am bitter about it! Safe travels :)
