Do Dr.'s Stil Pierce Ears?

My doctor's office does. You have to ask. A friend took her daughter to a local doc's office and they were not regular patients. She was visiting from out of town for 6 months. to help her mom. She paid out of pocket and no problems. A few jewelers around me do also on specific dates, like first Friday or Sat of the month.

I never, ever heard of this and believe me, I hang out with a lot of pediatricians. Perhaps this is a regional practice?

Wow, I wasn't even aware doctors pierced ears... ever.

I've worked at the mall piercing ears and am a certified body piercer as well, so I *should* be able to help you with this problem.

Unfortunately, I can't. If someone brought a baby to me in a piercing shop and asked me to pierce their ears, I would have declined, simply because it's done with a hollow needle and the process is much more long and drawn out than in the mall. I'd recommend going to, say, a Claire's to get it done because the process is quick and easy, but it'd have to be a Claire's with an awesome manager that had OCD when it came to germs like I do. I definitely don't recommend those piercing kiosks.

Maybe head to a Claire's and find out when the store manager is working. I wouldn't let a sales associate do it.

Make sure she can hold her head up just fine by herself before you take her (not sure exactly how old she is). That way, the muscles in the neck are defined enough to pop her ears out, away from her head. You have less scarring like that.

I worked at Piercing Pagoda in the mall. I have to say we were trained, had the proper equipment & I personally would pierce 5-6 (sometimes more) people a day, which is WAAAY more than a Dr would do. We would have to "fix" piercings done by doctor's offices (usually they were not straight). I would highly recommend going to the Pagoda. They have a wide selection (gold & even Titanium) They can have a "dual" piercing (where two people would do it - one each ear) or an individual. I may buy a piercing gun myself to pierce my daughter (as I said we were trained well) or if not I will take her to the Pagoda.

Our Pieds does it in Wallington (Primecare Pediatrics) They have one time use set ups to do them. That being said, I would rather have taken my girls to a piercer. NEVER to a place in the mall. I am not a germaphobe, not even close. (ok if you have been playing in the mud wash your hands before you eat but otherwise.. meh.. and my kids have never been on antibiotics so somethings working! lol) While I have had my OWN ears done in the mall quite a few times, and by a piercer, I would go back to the piercer from now on. There I know that the needles are clean, they have to be VERY well trained (as someone earlier said), and they make their living doing it, often by word of mouth. I have had the girls in the mall make holes crooked so I could not get jewelry in my ears on my own, have had them pierce thru scar tissue (OMG PAINFUL!!) and I know that they can not clean the guns like they should be.

Ours sends parents to one of two extremely good tattoo shops to their licensed piercers. With infants some will come to your home.

I would never ever go to the mall. Guns make crappy piercings more often than not, and the vast majority of the 'piercers' aren't licensed and trained. They bang them out all day without any understanding of physiology (placement differs per age, shape, etc.), standard practice (medical term... Piercers are held to the same standard as doctors and nurses, and lose their licenses if the don't adhere to those standards... A good piercer makes 6 figures a year, so it's a big deal).

Our Peds office will do it , after they've had a certain amount of vaccinations ( I forget , exactly).

You know, I've never heard of a pediatrician's office doing this. I know the ones around here don't. But I'll say this - the places at the mall use new equipment for each customer (all the parts that actually touch you), and sterile practices, AND they pierce ears all day every day. I'd trust the 20 year old who pierces the ears of 10 people every day over the nurse who does it once a month. I had my youngest daughter's ears pierced at 15 months at Claire's. They did a great job.

Not any that I know of in NY. Ask your ped and he'll tell you all you need to know, including vaccines needed etc.

No, they don't. Not as a general rule. You have to obtain certain certifications, for it to be legal. I think you will have a very hard time finding a Dr. who still does this.

Yes some drs still do, my daughters ped does but I didn't have hers done there.

Our pediatrrician has 1 doctor that will pierce ears. He charges $70 and it obviously is not covered on the insurance. My daughter (11yo) wanted hers done and we had a local salon do it. It was $30 and she did fine. I know there is a huge age difference there but it is cleanlyness to really worry about. You want everything steril. I would do some "snooping" and ask lots of questions of the place you have it done and go from there.

The nurse practitioner at my kids' pediatrician office does it in Westfield.

my daughters pediatrican did hers when she was about 4 mos she is 5 now i dont know if they still do it.
