Differences in Diaper Rash Creams

What are the differences in diaper rash creams? My daughter rarely gets them, but when I went to buy a cream was over whelmed and none of the tubes explained the differences. I settled for a Target brand 40% zinc oxide. But I also saw the ones w/ 10%. What does it all mean?
Thanks!

I like the one called "Butt Paste". It's nice and creamy and doesn't have an odor. Seems to work quite well.

i love butt paste. i agree with amber. whenever my daughter has even the hint of a rash i put the butt paste on and it clears within a day. sometimes if i catch it at the beginning, she wont even get the rash. it is thicker but i think it spreads very easily. its very creamy and i dont have any issues with the color. its just a light tan color. i got two tubes for my baby shower and it works so well, that it lasted over a year before i ran out. she rarely got rashes because it cleared it up so quickly. i have also heard great things about aquaphor, as well.

M., my midwife showed my sweetie and me this really amazing trick when it came to diaper changes..... ..She said don't use wipes...instead use H20....YES!! ! Good ol' water. Our dazzling son, Dylan Orion, is a lil' over 2 years old, and we've always rinsed him under the sink or in the bath and he's never had diaper rash. Just wanted to share this gem of a jewel of wisdom with you! : )

When I first started nursing Dylan, I bought this amazing salve called: NIPPLE CREAM by MOTHERLOVE. WOW! Incredible! The label on the jar says you can also use it for diaper rash (though they also have one specifically for DIAPER RASH AND THRUSH), and I've met many MAMAS that have used this BRILLIANT PRODUCT just for that reason! In fact, whenever Dylan used to get drool rash on his chin, I always would use NIPPLE CREAM and the rash disappeared within 24 hours. You can find MOTHERLOVE's NIPPLE CREAM at THE PUMP STATION, WHOLE FOODS and THE GREEN CRADLE.

Here's their website: http://www.motherlove.com

Also, letting your sweetie go au natural without diapers for a lil' bit allows the rash to air out.

I even would suggest changing to a hypo~allergenic diaper like 7th Generation or to cloth diapers.

And, lastly oatmeal baths work wonders for DIAPER RASH.

Hope this helps. : )

With love,
L. (MAMA to 2 year old Dylan Orion....29 September 2007). : )

Some are more irritating to a babys sensitive skin, some aren't all natural, some smell etc. My son has sensitive skin so I use aquaphor on him and also use the aquaphor bath wash on him and he's never had an issue!

I was wondering the same thing--btwn the 10% and 40%.

But my understanding is that it's basically just a physical barrier. Unless your baby has some weird skin sensitivity, just use whatever brand--generic is fine, and apply it thick (like frosting Christmas cookies) over DRY skin.

I use Destin, only b/c that's what Costco sells and I like how creamy it is--its' easy to use. I disliked Butt Paste b/c the color is harder for me to see and it is too thick for me to spread easily.

im not sure the difference. however the only creams i use is A&D for minor to moderate break outs and if its really really bad then i use desitin or balmex. my daughter is allergic any diaper/pull up that isnt chlorine free and scent free. so she breaks out a lot.

Butt Paste is the absolute best! My first daughter had rashes non-stop and if I missed once she'd get one. Butt Paste was all that worked. I stocked up on it for the second but she doesn't have the same problem so I haven't even come close to using all that I bought 1 1/2 years ago and had to give some away :)

Zinc oxide is the same stuff that is used for sunblock, remember the people with all the colorful noses in the 80's? :) Personally, I think Butt Paste is the best. It clears up diaper rash within a day most of the time. It's got a baby on the package and it's yellow. Try it and you will never buy anything else again!

Only use zinc oxide if it's a really bad rash. Try to find a lower % too, they're strong. A&D works well. Johnson & Johnson has one that's 3in 1 moisturizes, protects, prevents...

If you check out (EWG) Environmental Working Group's database on the safety ranking of products...it makes shopping so much easier. There are only 2 or 3 products rated "0" (the most safe)...one is Rite Aid zinc oxide. Ought to be pretty cheap.

My son is like your daughter and just gets the occasional diaper rash. We really like Burt's Bees. You don't go through it very quickly and it works in a day so I think it's worth the $. Plus, I feel safer knowing the products in it are more natural. Oh yeah, a tip my doctor pointed out is that you put the burt's bees (or other white cream like desitin) on first then over that you put a layer of either vaseline, aquaphor or A&D to act as a moisture barrier. This is foolproof from everything I've tried! Hope that helps. :)

Boudreaux's Butt Paste is awesome!!! I also use A&D without Zinc Oxide. The Zinc oxide protects against irritants. I use it for really bad rashes. For a little irritation I use no zinc oxide because it's less messy and usually does the trick.

Hope this helps!
