Diet Program

Well, it is that time of year again and I have decided to jump back on the band wagon. Previously, I have done just about every diet program out there. Due to the fact that I have PCOS, a pituitary tumor and I recently found out that I have a hypothyroidism--diets work more slowy for me than others. I am thinking about doing Slim 4 Life because I think that is the one that I had the most success on. Before I invest a HUGE amount of money in the program, can anyone give me the guidelines or a sample diet for the program? I would like to see if it is even something that I can stomach (no pun intended) before I walk in the door and try and sell me the most expensive program. I really just want something VERY simple since I have two small children and work full-time.

What can I do next?

I have to say WW as well. I've done it before and lost close to 70 lbs, became pregnant with my first child...ate lots of pastry.. got heavy again.. I did it again, and lost a significant amount of weight, became pregnant with baby # 2, who is now 8 months old. I've been back on WW since the end of September, and have now lost 30 lbs. WW is easy, it's just getting yourself in the mind set of monitoring your intake. As a busy mother of two, who works full-time as well, I think sometimes it's easier to have a plan in place for food. It's at least one thing, you don't have to worry about!!

good luck!

First, don't look for a diet. Consider it a lifestyle change. If it's a diet, it's not a long-term solution.

I did Weight Watchers and highly recommend it. You do have to invest time logging in what you eat online, but that's a key success factor -- accountability. If you're not tracking what you eat, it's so easy to eat a whole lot more than you thought you did. It was an eye-opener for me to track it all.

Your points value will vary depending on your current weight and goal. Mine were really low because I only had around 20 lbs. to lose. I'm not sure what my point value would be under their just released new plan (which is supposed to be even better, allowing more for protein-filled, filling foods). A typical day of eating for me:
Breakfast: Fiber One cereal with milk
Snack: Activia yogurt
Lunch: Lean Cuisine or Weight Watchers frozen meal or leftovers from dinner
Snack: Crackers with hummus, a South Beach protein bar or a couple cheese sticks. I typically add in a craving item, too (yes, allowed under WW) like a couple of cookies.
Dinner: A recipe from WW or Cooking Light, such as pasta with tomatoes & spinach, spaghetti, crockpot chicken or steak. Usually with a veggie and salad.
Snack: 2 cups of popcorn and a cup of hot chocolate or a WW or Skinny Cow frozen treat

I'm hypoglycemic and have to eat every couple of hours and don't go hungry on WW.

S., I did S4L a few years back, and lost 70 lbs. I'm also embarassed to say that I have gained it back. It is a good program, if you stick with it and pay for it, and stay with the vitamins and supplements. Supplements are the protein bars, soups, and fruity drinks that you have to drink, 2 per day. You have to take essential fatty acids (EFA's), a carb blocker, before every meal, and another one that I can't remember. But usually this is what I ate in a given day:

breakfast - protein bar, cup of coffee
snack - orange
Lunch - 1 cup lettuce, sm piece chicken, 1 tsp dressing
snack - apple
dinner - 1 cup veggies, sm piece chicken or fish, soup (supplement)
you also have to drink I think 90 oz of water per day

there are also many rules about what supplements you can or cannot mix, how many times per week you can have them, how much beef you can eat, etc. Some fruits and veggies you cannot have. It was a good program while I was on it, but once you get the weight off, and stop with the supplements and vitamins, it gets challenging. I'd agree with the other poster, that says make it a lifestyle change and eat right. We all know how to do it, we just don't. As a side note, if you do decide to go to S4L, the people there are so nice and easy to get along with, and it was very easy to go there every day (EVERYDAY at first!!). I went to the one in Olathe on 127th. Good luck to you!!

S.,
I am not very familiar with that program. But I do know diets cause you to lose up to 40% muscle in each pound lost. So that is what destroys metabolism and make the weight come back making the person even fatter than before.
I am a personal trainer and I can tell you some people that look thin are actually fat and unhealthy. One of my clients is the same height as me, but much, much thinner. Her percent bodyfat is significantly higher than mine.
I can recommend a program I like if you are interested. On it, you won't lose muscle.
Good luck and God bless.

I've answered quite a few questions like this, and both my best friend and I lost weight after our kids with Jenny Craig. I only bought breakfast, lunch, and snacks and had dinner with my husband and kids. It really teaches you portion control and makes you accountable for everything you eat. I went from a size 10 to a size 4, which is the thinnest I've ever been. I work out about 3 times/week and have been off Jenny Craig for about a year and even lost a little more weight once I went off their food. Here is a sample of my daily meals, since I don't diet, it really is a lifestyle change:

Breakfast-English muffin w/peanut butter or oatmeal
Snack-yogurt
Lunch-Lean cuisine and an apple
Snack-String cheese, almonds or 1 cup of trail mix
Dinner-I really eat whatever the family eats and have made my family eat healthier including turkey burgers, fish, etc.
Snack-Skinny cow ice cream-they have a lot of variety and is very satisfying

I think the biggest issue is portion control, I eat whatever I want, just smaller portions than what I use to eat and I try to make healthier choices, but if I want chocolate, I eat it and if I want french fries I eat them. I just make sure to work out and eat better the next day. Good luck!

S., my husband has lost 15 pounds on a program called Hi5. It is a very easy program to follow and is very healthy. In fact, we give our 4 year old daughter the shakes! You can get more info at http://www.Hi5LA.com or shoot me a message for more info.
Good luck!
