I know I just need to change what I'm eating and lower my portion size. I have lost a little weight that way, but it's not happening as quickly as I'd like. So I am considering trying over the counter diet pills just to kick start it a little quicker. So, have any of you ever done that? I guess I'm looking for pros/cons; recommendations on which diet pills to try. If you have taken any, how long did you take them & with what kinds of results? Thanks in advance & thank goodness it's Friday!

What can I do next?

I've tried a few over the counter diet pills in my time and I've found the best thing for me is Weight Watchers. I'm sorry, it's all about calories in and calories used. I felt horrible on diet pills - sick, sweaty, jittery - not worth it!! I took one that gave me my period everytime I took it - weird!!

Just stick to old fashioned exercise and eating good.

Diet pills are 99% of the time a bad idea. They wreak havoc on your system and do more harm than good. I know you want to see the progress now, but give it time. Remember the Tortoise and the Hare? :) "Slow and steady wins the race." It will happen. Good eating habits and exercise WILL work. Give it it's fair chance. You'll be that much better off for it.

ETA: I have to apologize. I broke my own rule of only answering the question asked. :( I'm sorry I answered a question you didn't ask for the answer to. Best of luck to you in your quest.

If you are consistent, and you exercise, you will lose the weight. Slow is good, because then it is real weight, and you won't gain it back easily, not water weight or muscle because you're starving yourself.

Weight loss done using pills is pointless, because as soon as you go off the pills, your weight will return. Lifestyle change is the only way. Keep it up.

Diet pills aren't good for you. They are h*** o* your heart and nervous system.

You might be able to find a natural appetite suppressant at the health food store, but really, there are lots of natural appetite suppressants. Water, fruit, vegetables.....
Pretzels are a zero fat snack, but be careful if you are watching your sodium.

You might be able to cut calories in ways you hadn't thought of. For instance, drink only black coffee. If you love caffeinated beverages, like I do, you can have zero calorie seltzer water and add a dash of fruit juice or lemon, oranges or lime for flavor. I like it just plain. I'm not after the sugar or flavor, just the bubbles.

If you can, take the kids for a walk BEFORE dinner. It gets your metabolism going, you may feel less hungry due to the endorphins, and you get some exercise in. Give yourself a cut-off time each night in which you can't eat afterwards unless it's an apple, some orange slices, or celery sticks.

Changing what you eat and when can make all the difference. No pill will help you to do that. I had a friend who actually gained weight on diet pills because she felt she had to eat in order not to feel dizzy and jittery. When her doctor told her she would have to go on high blood pressure medication, she quit taking them.

It's just my opinion, but diet pills aren't the answer. I got pneumonia and lost 14 pounds. I don't recommend that either.

Best wishes.

I haven't taken any but I personally believe that they aren't effective. Really the only proven effective, long term method is eating correctly and exercising. Getting plenty of sleep helps too. I believe the average american woman who isn't pregnant or nursing needs roughly 1500-1800 calories a doy. It sounds like alot. An effective way for me to cut down on my portion sizes is to keep a food journal. I will start to reach for the ice cream and then think "Wait! Do I really want to write that I had 2 or 3 servings of this?" Good luck!

Stay away from anything that boosts your metabolism. It's not worth the possible risk to your cardiovascular system.

One thing that helped me when I was at a weight loss plateau was to take metamucil capsules 30 minutes before a meal. Be careful when starting this, because if you take too much it will leave you constipated. Take one capsule with a full glass of water before each meal, then increase the dose according to the directions on the bottle. For me, the capsules worked better than the stuff you stir into water.

Having said that, another good option is to just drink a full glass of water before each meal. It fills you up some and you won't want to eat as much at meal time.

Please, please don't start taking diet pills.

The way you're losing weight is good. Even though it's going slowly, that's good. You're more likely to keep it off that way. Weight that comes off too quickly leaves hanging skin and is more likely to be gained back and then some. I would do whatever it takes to avoid OTC diet pills.

It's frustrating because we always want to see immediate results. Slow and steady is what wins the race.

Drinking green tea helps flush out your system, though, and it's GREAT for your digestive health. It has antioxidants. It's an all around good thing to add into your daily diet.

Drinking plenty of water and water-filled foods is good for you.

ive tried hydroxycut in the past.. i cant really say wether it worked or not because i was also dieting and working out.. i lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks.. i was on a strict diet though.. in the morning before class i would eat a piece of toast, half way through classes i would eat a granola bar, and when i got home from school i would eat a can of tuna fish- plain and a small bowl of salad ( i drank water constantly all day) and for dinner i ate whatever everyone else was eating but i was all about portion control... i was also doing 45 minutes on my eliptical every other day... i mean its very well possible that the hydroxycut helped but it also couldve just been my diet/workout who knows... i will say they definatley gave me an energy boost, however you do have to eat something 30min-1hr within taking them or u do feel a little jittery
- i have to add that i know there are tons of these kind of diet pills on the market right now i definatley do not reccomend any of the ones stacker has out there.. i never personally tried them but i know a few people that have and ive heard they make u feel like youre having a heartattack.. a friend of mine in highschool actually passed out once, she took them and then went to the gym to workout and ended up getting off the tredmill and fainting

Do you want to curb your appetite tomorrow? Drink a large mug of hot cocoa-the kind you make with sugar and cocoa-and use whole milk-if you find that this is not enough-eat a couple of hard boiled eggs. You can go all day on the cocoa alone-it's amazing! Sorry i didn't address your question-but best of luck!
