hi everyone. i am a stay at home mom of a 1 yr old. we just moved to this area and i have been pretty depressed. we just got me a car, but i don't have anywhere to go. i don't have any exercise buddies, and i don't have a babysitter so i can go to the gym. i also have bad ankles, so i can only do certain exercises. i need to lose a lot of weight, but i have no idea how. every other commercial on tv is about a diet or exercise plan. it depresses me which makes me eat. i wish i could motivate myself, but instead of being motivated i keep falling deeper into depression. i have tried weight watchers and herbalife. wieght watchers worked, but i can't bring myself to do it. HELP!!!!! getting desperate.

What can I do next?

I can understand how you feel. What area do you live in? I may 1/2 of the solution. I have a 7 yr old girl and a 5 month old boy. I plan on going to story time because I did it with my little girl and it was fun, maybe we could meet there or something. I am a sahm but I work from home so I work and take care of the baby. M.

Hi J.! I am kinda in the same boat as you are... I moved here about a year and a half ago and one of our cars broke down so I am stranded home all day... I did manage to find a group called stroller strides where you excerise with other moms and your babies! It was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot and I plan on attending again as soon as we get our car fixed! I hope you'll check it out, I know it made me feel better! BTW I do not work for them I just really enjoyed it : ) www.strollerstrides.net/macon

You recieved great advice from atleast 2 of the mom's the other seems to be trying to use ur vulerability to gain a buck but I too feel depressed b/c of my weight, I have been tiny my entire life until I got pregnant with my first son 4 yrs ago and since then when I woke up that next morning in the hospital and saw how I looked I have felt like I'm staring at a different person, one I never wanted to become and feel so helpless. I've tried sticking to an exercise routine but I give up after a couple of months. I have begged my husband to get me a tummy tuck just to get rid of my most depressing problem spot but he says I should try and lose some weight BEFORE I have the surgery. I know he's right but I figured if I felt better about something I can motivate myself enough to stick to it for good. Anyway, I was reading a fitness magazine and some of their ideas actually sounded like it would be something I could stick with. They said to keep something like a diary of what you eat, how many calories it was,how you felt before, the time u ate and how u felt after like full, still hungry ect. And then at the end of the week read ur journal and look for patterns in ur eating habits like wether u ate b/c u were sad, lonely bored or what time during the day are you most vulnerable. I've found just through my on habits that my main problems lies with my food eating habits not that I don't get enough activity. I know I could do much much more but I always feel bad for something I've ate and I feel sluggish and depressed when I eat foods I know I shouldnt be. Just try and find out what ur biggest weakness is and work on it first instead of looking at it as one big problem.

I am also a stay at home mom of a 11 month old. I had nothing to do until recently. I joined golds gym and they have a day care there. It is great. Best thing I could have done. It gets me out of the house and I get to excerise. Any questions just ask!! Hope things get better, I know what you are going through.

I was in the same slump. After a whole year, I still hadn't lost my baby weight. My Mom and I joined Curves and I love it. The workouts are fun and fast. They also give you a lot of information about how to diet without dieting every single day. It's a really unique concept. All of the members and staff have been very supportive. It's a great atmosphere. You should check it out. They're always running specials on sign-up fees.

Hi J.! Where do you live? If it's close, I'd love to meet you. I am also pretty much a SAHM mom. Right now I am trying to finish up a semester at school, and I only work weeekends. My daughter is almost one, and I am 7 mos pregnant. I am currently a Health Science major, a massage therapist, and am also working on my personal training certification, so I do have a little background in health and fitness. I also know of a few places to work out that you can bring your child with you. There is a Tae Kwon Do school here that has classes for beginner adults. It is a lot of fun, and a different, but great work out, too. Your daughter could watch while you are in class, there are usually other children there. Or, a lot of gyms offer free childcare while you work out. But most importantly, we could try and meet and take our kids to the park and go walking and play with them, so at least we could get in some activity and interact with our children. I know my little one would love to have a play buddy! Please let me know if you are interested! Also, if you have any questions, please contact me! Just take it one step at a time, and you will soon feel so much better about yourself. Good luck and take care!

Hi J.,

I have always battles with my weight as well. After I had my baby (he's now 3 1/2) I would take him for a lot of walks around the neighborhood pushing him in the stroller. I know it is so easy to get down on ourselves. Try really hard to focus on some positive qualities of yourself (eyes, hair, teeth, personality, etc.) and just know that your weight can go either up or down from the point that you are at today. I had to tell myself that a lot of times to keep from getting discouraged. I go to a really laid back women's gym in Tucker called MyFairLady. It's only $3 per visit for them to watch your child. Also, just recently I started the South Beach diet. I lost 6 1/2 lbs. in 2 weeks. I love it! He is really down to earth. The book is well written, has inspirational stories, and lots of recipes!!!

Best of luck to you!

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. We've moved a lot and I know being a stay at home mom can be lonely. Check the local papers, etc... to see if there are any local moms group (momsclub.org?) or through a local church (MOPS?). I once made some friends at a storytime for kids offered at the library. Also, I don't know about gyms by you, but most near me offer child care included in membership. It's a great way to get some "me" time.

Hi J. - I don't know where you live, but we have a MOPS group in the Stone Mountain/Lilburn area. Our group is going to Washington farms (a U-pick strawberry farm) on Monday. If your little one is mobile I know she would enjoy it. I took my little girl last year when she was one and she loved picking (and eating!) the strawberries. We'd love to have you join us if you want to. Our MOPS year is almost over, but we are going to do playgroups in the summer. If you want I can add you to the email list that reminds us that we have something to do on Mondays!! If you aren't that close to Lilburn check MOPS.org. You can find a group that is close to you. It may not be exercise, but it is a way to get out of the house and make some new friends. I know that my MOPS group has really helped me out. I'm a hermit if I don't have someone to force me out of my house. My friends in MOPS have helped me to get past that. Call me if you have any questions, or if you just want to talk!!

hey my name is Missy where did you move from? Maybe we could get together with the kids at a park. Where do you live? Arbor Place Mall has it where if you walk around the mall you earn points to earn gifts. I think people start walking at around 7am. You can take your stroller. Welcome to Georgia. We have only been here almost 5 years. Missy

You first need to see someone about the depression... You must get rid of the depression before you can diet... Depression does make you eat... See your doctor...about putting you on something to help the depression.

Hi J.,

I know exactly how you feel, I am overweight as well since having my son 6 yrs ago and taking 10 months of steroids and fertility treatments. I was a size 5 prior to having kids so to be xxl now is really something I do not like about myself. I want to lose weight and just get into shape and be healthy so I can chase my kids and play without feeling like I am dying! I have had luck in the past with weight watchers too and would love to do it again but have no motivation and I really want to find a buddy to do it with, I think that it is motivation to have a friend to go through the process with.

What area do you live in, I am in Statham, 7 miles past GA Square Mall in Athens. Email me ____@____.com, maybe we can get together to excercise or if we are far away email and support each other through the process.

I am a sahm as well. I have a 6 yr old son in kindergarten and a 22 month old daughter.

I would also love to get together with any other moms in the area looking to get some excercise and support, we can meet up and do it together :o)

Hey - exercise is no fun - I hear ya! I don't know where you live but if I were you,I'd get out the yellow pages and start calling gyms. They YMCA will most like have a wonderful full service babysitting room - free w/your membership. I checked out a gym in Loganville when I first moved here and it had a babysitting room also. I think most gyms have them these days. I prefer to work out alone b/c I don't like to talk when exercising. To get on the elipitial trainer and watch a news channel w/ no kids talking to me for an hour is heavenly!! I wish you much luck. :-)

You sound just like me. We moved here 7 months ago and I was so lonely. I joined a gym by my house and went for about 4 months 5 days a week but didn't see any results so I quit. You are not alone. I have 2 children 7 and 11 and it really gets lonely during the day. I have all the time in the world to exercise but can't get motivated. If you find something to help please let me know I would love to lose about 30 or 40 pounds. Where do you live? I'm in Lagrange.
