Did You Wait the Whole 6 Weeks?

I'm just curious on how many of you mama's waited the whole 6 weeks to have sex after having a baby? I had my baby girl 3 weeks ago and my husband and I are counting down the days until we get to do the deed. It's so hard to wait! I haven't been this ready this soon. With my other 2 kids, it took at least 5 weeks before I felt even the slightest bit ready, but we waited until I was cleared by my OB. So how soon did you have sex after having a baby?

What can I do next?

Oh Goodness I waited way more than 6 weeks. Birth was not a fun experience and I just didn't believe all those stitches were really healed up. I had no desire for anything to be near that part of my body after only 6 weeks.

Well I had c-sections.
But yes, recovery is 6 weeks.
I waited.

You can do other things besides, actual you know what.

Honestly, I am amazed when this question has been asked. Who has the time to even think about it with a newborn? It was the very last thing on my mind. Forget 6 or 8 weeks, it was months! I'm surprised that both you and your husband wouldn't want more healing time!

LOL.. I think the doctor tells you to wait for the fact the your very fertile and incase you had an episiotomy... but I think its when your ready... you will know! Be careful and Enjoy!! Its really a tease... becasue its like you can do everything BUT.... (wink, wink, hehe) ; )
As for C.P. & H.B. really? I am sorry that you didnt want to have sex with your significant other after having a baby... I did and couldnt wait!! Just because we had a baby doesnt mean we had to stop being a couple..and four kids later...we are still a couple!! Geez...
Anyway, Enjoy momma!!

Nope..lol & maybe that's why I have 3..haha I waited a few weeks after each. My husband was very gentle and there was 'other stuff' we could do if i had stiches and was sore, like when I had my second.. Good Luck to you and congrats on the new addition :)

I waited longer... but I had some issues, and after pushing out a nearly 10 lb baby, at that 6 week mark, it was painful for me to even THINK about doing it. lol.

Although... I was told by my doctor that it's not so much letting 'down there' heal, it's allowing everything to shut up tight again. After giving birth, it's a lot easier to get an infection because everything is all stretched out, so it's a lot easier for the bacteria to get all up in your business. Having sex pretty much helps it along... Not saying you WILL get an infection, but it raises the possibility.

I'm a big believer in waiting until after the OB check. We waited 6 weeks, and then resumed before getting back to the midwife. Big mistake. She found some tissue from the stitches which hadn't healed correctly and needed to be cauterized with liquid nitrogen. I would have saved myself a lot of pain if I'd waited. But lucky me, I'm fine now!

I didn't have an episiotomy and didn't tear, so I was told "whenever I wanted, I'd 'know' if it was too soon". So I did. Which was sooner than 6 weeks. Not long after the dinosaur farts stopped. Week 1 maybe? 2?

I waited until things weren't sore. I had no stitches and just the tiniest tear, but it took about 9 weeks before things felt good again. Besides, I had a lot of other things to do :-), and it didn't hurt him to learn to wait. We'd had sex almost daily for about 18 years by then!

I don't think we waiting the full 6 weeks with more than our 1st.

Wait until the bleeding has completely stopped, then you should be good to go.

In the mean time, there's other stuff that doesn't involve penetration that you can have fun with :)

Hi. Honestly, I never waited the 6 wks. I healed pretty quickly and my libido never wanted to wait! lol Personally (and I'm no doctor), I think that your body knows when you're ready. Just be careful and use some sort of protection. Some of the best sex we ever had was right after the birth of our children. With one of them, we waited 2 weeks and that felt like a lifetime! :)

Congrats on your new little bundle!

LOL it's so funny to read how different everyones answers are about this!
My dr did 4 week check ups not 6, so she gave the go ahead then. But, with my 1st even after a 4th degree tear we waited only 2 weeks and my 2nd with just a smaller tear we waited about 3. With our 3rd and 4th I think we tried to wait till the 4 week mark but didn't quite make it. (just cause I was scared my dr would gripe at me for doing it sooner) :o)

I had an episiotomy with my first, but we still only waited about 2 1/2 weeks. My second I had a c-section & we waited about 3 weeks I think. We just waited for me to feel better & took it slow.

Nope! Our first was more like 4 or 5 weeks because I tore. But after our second I think it was more like 3 weeks. I am due any day now and am counting the days till we can have sex. This has been such a terrible pregnancy in that department so I'm really looking forward to it.

With my second.. we made it to the 5 week mark.. maybe?

With my third.. heheheheheh. NO! I think it was about 4 weeks we did the deed. hehe

I waited 9 with baby #1 (my stitches down there bothered me) and 10 with baby #2 (a c-section). Got my doc's OK both times first. Of course we found other ways to fool around and self-explore without doing the deed so our libidos didn't suffer. I have no idea what will happen with this one (I am nearly 38 weeks prego) now that we have 2 other little ones at home too!

I called at 4 weeks with my last and begged to see the OB. I just wanted his clearance first. For sex and swimming, i was missing both equally! I see that some mom's wanted to wait as long as they could hold their husbands off. We seem to shock them and i think they shock us. I never wanted to feel so connected to my husband as i did then. We made this beautiful baby together. I also wanted to let him know that he was not forgotten ;)

With both kids my doctor told me 4 weeks. He wanted to make sure we gave things a chance to heal. But, yes, make sure you use a condom b/c you are able to get pregnant and I certainly wouldn't want that so soon after this baby! I think you have to wait 8 weeks to get an IUD but I'm not sure about the mini pill. Have fun!!!

well I am 12 weeks post partum and have just now started becoming interested in having sex again. I was so sore afterwards for almost 7-8 weeks, of course my baby was almost a 10lbs! After I started feeling physically better, I was still EXHAUSTED from taking care of my son and returning to work. Now that baby boy is sleeping through the night consistently and I have started catching up on sleep and we have a good routine forming, I actually told my boyfriend the other day that we needed to plan a "date" night (we're both really busy so even though I've been ready again for a week, we haven't SEEN each other lol). So tomorrow night after baby goes to bed is supposed to be "us" time. Needless to say, I'm rather excited as I was not in the mood starting around my 7-8 month of pregnancy cause I was getting so big and uncomfortable. He was REALLY excited when I finally said something to him and I don't think wanted to have to wait another week for our schedules to coincide lol

10 weeks was the magic number for me after both my kids. I'm not sure if it's because I had big kids (8lbs 4 oz and 10 lbs 7 oz) or if it's because I tore with both of them. I didn't feel like I had healed after 6 weeks. I was definitely not in the mood for a long time. Between exhaustion and stitches, I had no desire! If you feel like you're ready, you know your own body. Congrats on baby #3 and be thankful you feel good so soon!

With the first baby I had an episiotomy and waited the 6 weeks and was cautious to get back at it. The 2nd no tearing waited 3 weeks. The 3rd, we were at it at 2 weeks. But I felt fine.... lucky hubs. I had no desire for sex my entire pregnancy and did it to be a good wife and couldn't really get into which is not like me. By the time I have the baby and somewhat get my body back, I am ready to get it on!

Two weeks after my c-section we had sex.

After my c-section I asked a nurse about having sex before 6 weeks and she told me the only reason the doctor says to wait is because you could pull or tear something inside (whether you had a c-section or not). The nurse told me sex was fine as long as you don't go wild. If it feels good then go for it. If it is uncomfortable then stop or try another position, but if it hurts stop immediately.

I had a c-section, so it is different, but my doctor told me that we could have sex whenever I was ready (although he preferred I wait until 2 weeks had gone by). At around 3 weeks we started up again and it was fabulous! I don't know if the same thing would be recommended if I had had a vaginal delivery though.
