Im just wondering how many other mama's saved their wedding dresses for their daughters? I did save mine. I know it will be a long time before I even need to think about my daughters wedding but with all these wedding shows on tv its hard not to think about it! I know it will be her choice if she wants to wear it or not.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had read somewhere a long time ago about a grandma who cut up her dress and sewed a piece of the train into each of her granddaughters dresses... I was thinking that would be something I would want to do if my daughter didnt want to wear my dress. I dont expect her to want to wear mine at all, but would be honored if she did! My mom didnt have a wedding dress, allthough if she did I'm not too sure that I would have wanted to wear it. I am very girlie and my mom is not. Nikki G I loved your wedding outfit!!!

I have it but don't expect my daughter to wear it! I might make a few hankerchiefs out of it to give to my daughter and grandchildren.

I do want her to wear my tiara for her communion. But her head needs to get a little bigger first :)

I saved my dress, but not with the intention of having either of my girls wear it. I have 3 kids (2 girls, 1 boy)... I will have my dress made into 3 pillows that perhaps the ring bearer can carry in each of their weddings (should they choose to get married.) There is plenty of satin and lace in my dress for 3+ pillows! 8)

I did save my wedding dress, not really with the intention of having my daughter wear it, but perhaps to make a christening gown from it someday. I also have my mom's dress - she was married in 1949 - she had hoped that I would wear it, but she was tiny and I was NOT, so it is still sitting in its box, waiting for inspiration!

I got married in a purple t-shirt, capri pants and flip-flops. Come to think of it, I should have saved my outfit! :)

I thought about it and saved mine for several years. Then realized that I didn't want to wear my mom's dress, why would I think my daughter would want to wear mine? Although it was a beautiful, she will have her own fashion preference and may not want to wear it. Also, I'm sure the fashion will change greatly between 8 years ago and 20-30 in the future. So, last year I donated it. Someone else will get the opportunity to wear my dress....just not my daughter.

I'm saving mine, but not FOR my daughters. Of course, they'll be more than welcome to use it if they choose to....but I'm looking forward to dress shopping with them when the time comes.

My husband and I renewed our vows last summer and I was desperate to find an appropriate dress. My gf suggested I modify my wedding dress - which would be great if it hadn't been sitting in a plastic grocery bag on the bottom of my Mom's closet for 11 years! LOL

By some miracle I was able to get it, have it dry cleaned and then altered to make a shorter dress for me and a mini dress for my daughter. God I loved seeing her in that little dress made out of the "train" of my own dress - though I promise you we won't be renewing our vows again and twice around in my wedding gown is all you'll ever see.

So - yes - I kinda saved it - but it's different - and would be more casual dinner party appropriate at this point if she ever decides to wear it. :-)

I don't have a daughter, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with mine.

I know some people who made baptismal and first communion outfits from the material. I thought that was a precious idea, because it would really mean something to both mother and daughter and because many women really want to pick out their own wedding dress.

Good luck as you decide what to do. And if anyone has ideas for a mom with 2 boys, I'm all ears :-)

No - I saved it because I didn't know what to do with it LOL. It's probably ruined as I didn't have it cleaned immediately and there was some mud on the bottom because it was a rainy day. I don't have any bio daughters so it doesn't matter anyway, and my DSD is about half my size so I'm sure she'd wear something much more suited to her shape if she ever gets married.

I saved it. I don't know if she'll wear it, but I wasn't about to get rid of something that sentimental and expensive! I had it preserved so it's been in the box since right after the wedding. My daughter has asked to see it many times, but I don't want to take it out of the box until she's engaged (many years from now).

No. I have it, but I'm not saving it for her. I will her if she wants to, but I think if she feels like I saved it FOR her, then she will be more torn as to whether to use it or not, even if she really doesn't want to. Odds are it'll be so out of style by then!

I saved my dress, mostly because I love it. If one of my daughters wants to wear it, that would be fine, but I wouldn't be offended if they didn't want to. (It's a very classic style though, and was made especially for me from beautiful Italian silk, so it should still be wearable in 20 years.) I wore my grandmother's wedding hat (those beautiful little hats from the 40's that sort of sat on the back of your head with a little short veil attached). I think it's a nice tradition to wear some family heirloom on your wedding day. Hopefully my girls will feel the same way.

My dress was ruined before the wedding - tire black on the limo. So I didn't save it. I do have one of the bow decorations from it somewhere. Maybe it will end up getting used someday somehow.

Yes, I saved mine. And since my daughter is my clone, she will probably be able to wear it if she wants. I don't care if she does or not. I just thought it would be nice to have something sentimental to pass on to her since I didn't get much passed on from my own mother.

I still have the dress but don't know if I will save it. My cousin however wore the suit that my grandmother wore when she was married. Had a picture taken on the same church steps it is really nice. I wasn't a size 0 so I couldn't do it. I think it is a special thing but the styles change so much.

I didn't. I think it's a nice tradition, but, in the event I had a daughter, I didn't want to assume that she'd have the same taste or even want to wear my dress. Plus, I didn't want her to feel obligated. (I ended up having 3 daughters so I suppose the eldest or first to get married would have had dibs on the dress? What about my other 2 girls though? )
Really, on top of that I just didn't want to have to keep it because it was so huge and I don't like having things that I'm not using.

I have mine, but am not holding out any hope that my daughter will wear it. My dress is a size 8 and was the perfect length for me at 5'4". My beautiful daughter at age 9 is on track to be much taller and probably larger than that! Her older half-sister is 6'...

Thats so cool that you can do that. Make sure you save it in a protective dress bag, because I have seen some women who have saved their dresses and then the daughter couldnt wear it because it wasnt bagged properly and it turned yellow! How awful.

I wont, I got married in a regular party dress. We got married at a court house because we were broke! Lol. But then again, I dont have a daughter yet so... LOL.

I saved mine. It is sealed in a box in the closet. I did not have any daughters and we're done, so I don't know if I'll save it forever or not. My Mom cut a piece from hers and a piece from her Mom's (my Grandmother) and made me my garter. I used a cheapy one for my husband to toss.

I babysat for a woman who is Catholic, and she saved her wedding dress with the intention of having it made into her daughter's first communion dress! I thought this was a great idea, but I'm not catholic ;)
I kept my dress, but I don't assume it will still be in style when my daughter gets married!

My first wedding dress is in the top of my closet wadded up. It got stained with butter from a Lobster at my after wedding dinner. It is in the style of Gunne Sax, very out of date in any time in the future....

My dress from my second wedding is a designer dress that cost a bit but not an enormous amount. It has the dropped Basque waist and a sweetheart neckline. Very different than any of the dresses that they have in places like Kleinfleds for the show "Say Yes Too The Dress".

I don't think anyone would want to wear either of mine.

I wore my mother's wedding dress and loved being able to do so. My daughter is enough taller than me that it wouldn't have fit her. Now we'll see in a few years if my granddaughter will want to wear either of the wedding dresses.
