Did We or Didn't We???

I know everyone is talking about H1N1 and I can't help but to talk about it to.
I just wonder, "have we already had it?”

I was sick twice this year (maybe every couple years I get a cold so to be sick twice this year is unusual for me).

First time:
Very sore throat, very stuff nose for about 3-4 days then moved to little chest cough for a week or so. Never checked for a fever, because didn't feel like I had one. If I did, it was a low grade one. Not sure if I had body aches, coincidentally that week I had gone to an exercise class for the first time in years and my body was sore all over for the same 4-5 days I was sick. So I couldn't tell if I had aches on top of that because I was so sore from exercising!
My hubby got sick too. He had fever 101 off and on, minor body aches, cough, little stuffy nose for about 4 days. Kids didn’t get sick. Did we have it?

Second time:
I had a low-grade fever 99.9, a mild stuffy nose, a really really bad cough and my stomach hurt so bad I could hardly move. I was on breathing treatments for about 4 days, which I have never been on in my life. I couldn't eat; I lost weight and got dehydrated. Had to go to ER for hydration. My diagnosis was bronchitis and stomach pain. I have never heard of someone getting dehydrated from bronchitis. I had been drinking water and Gatorade non stop too.
My whole family got this same bad cough and all of us were on breathing treatments. At my follow up with my doc, he still said viral bronchitis. The kids doc wasn’t sure but just said continue breathing treatments until better and return if they get worse. They didn’t get worse, got better. We have all never been sick at the same time.
But the cough took a while for them to rid and I still have it, 6 weeks later. It's no where near what it was but I still have one.
I have heard of few friends stating they had bronchitis and never this bad in their life. Is there a really bad bug of bronchitis out there or did we have H1N1?

Moms, what do you think? I know you all are not medical experts but for those that have had it please share......

I really do not think you can guess on this as if you did not have lab confirmed H1N1 I would just assume that you did not have it. I mean, that is if you are worried about it. I for one will get the vaccine and get my son vaccinated as well. I do not like the news that is coming out in regard to the people without underlying conditions getting very ill. Yes, I know the % is low, but a chance is a chance. I wrestled with this decision and I am finally set. Remember that more people then ever are heading to the er and their docs thinking they have h1n1...some do and some do not. I have noticed that people talk a lot more about being sick then ever before and yes I am freaking a little. Also remember that it is cold and upper respiratory season regardless of the new flu.
Feel good!

We're getting mixed messages about this. The media hype makes it sound like people are dropping like flies from it but when I research it, they treat it like any other flu. I'm giving my family vitamin C, zinc, airborne, and antioxidants to help prevent any kind of flu at all. I hope it works!! I figure that even if they do get anything, taking this precaution will help them get over it quicker and maybe it won't be as severe. Good luck!

My family had both of those too in the month of August! We are in the same boat on whether or not we had H1N1 or not! I'm anxious to see what others respond to your request

Possibly, but you never know for sure. Personally, I don't really think so. Your body aches would have been pretty severe, and your fever probably would have been higher. Also, the cough probably would not have been the main symptom. H1N1 and the regular seasonal flu are pretty similar in symptoms, so if you have ever had the regular flu before, compare it to that experience. The CDC lists these symptoms: "fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea."

Even if you did already have H1N1, you can still get it again, if that's what you're asking. I know of someone who has had it twice this year already.

You should go back to ER and demand a test. Apparently only the hospital can give you that test.

If you had bronchitis or bronchiolitis, then you need to huff from an albuterol nebulizer machine. (My son has that and it works 3x/day for 3-4 days and then he doesn't have that prob anymore.

Both my boys had to go on antibiotics for 5 days and it worked for an additional 5 days in their system. They both had strep throat and 1 had double ear infection at the same time.

I thought I was going to get that next, but I just sucked down 3 days worth of airborne, took some Tylenol, and drinked lots of fluids and I am fine.

Good luck! and oh yeah, I spoke to someone at Urgent Care, and they said if you had a severe rash that would also indicate the difference between Swine Flu and regular flu.

The symptoms are the same for all flu types, H1N1, regular, seasonal, pink, purple, whatever.

This is from my workplace HR..they got it from either the CDC or a medical website:
Difference between cold and flu symptoms
Fever is RARE with a cold.
Fever is USUALLY present with the flu in up to 80% of all flu cases. A temperature of 100 degrees F or higher for 3 to 4 days is associated with the flu.

A hacking, PRODUCTIVE (mucous-producing) cough is often present with a cold
A NON-PRODUCTIVE (non-mucous producing) cough is usually present with the flu (sometimes referred to as a dry cough).

SLIGHT body aches and pains can be part of a cold.
SEVERE aches and pains are common with the flu.

Stuffy nose:
Stuffy nose is commonly PRESENT with a cold and typically resolves spontaneously within a week
Stuffy nose is NOT commonly present with the flu

Chills are UNCOMMON with a cold
60% of people who have the flu experience chills

Tiredness is fairly MILD with a cold.
Tiredness is MODERATE TO SEVERE with the flu.

Sneezing is commonly PRESENT with a cold
Sneezing is NOT common with the flu

Sudden Symptoms:
Cold symptoms tend to deevlop over a FEW DAYS
The flu hs a RAPID ONSET within 3-6 hours. The flu hits hard and includes sudden symptoms like high fever, aches, and pains.

A headache is fairly UNCOMMON with a cold.
A headache is VERY COMMON with the flu, present in 80% of flu cases.

I would say no. Sore throats do not come with flu of any kind, and stuffy noses are mild. With your second illness, your fever was not high enough and you were not achy. I know you want us to say yes so you can stop worrying about it, but no.

We are just getting over the H1N1 Flu. Symptoms for us were high fever for days (my 16 month old got up to 106.0-spent that night at Phoenix Childrens Urgent Care getting worked up) Lot's of body aches, sleepiness, lack of appetite and only 2 of my 4 children even coughed (the baby and my 7 yr old who has a light case of asthma). I also had a stomach ache and a major headache.

It has lasted about a week except for with my 16 mo. old, they put her on Tamiflu (which took a day to find some in stock), she was on the mend in 2 1/2 days-amazing.

Those were our symptoms......

Good Luck figuring it out!
