Did Anyone Watch Witney's Funeral Today?

I watched everything and am in awe. I am so excited that they delivered such a moving, inspirational, God-fearing, collection of stories and worship for the lost world to see. I was in tears and truly felt like I was peaking in on a very personal family affair. I'm not a music fan and didn't know much about her before. Now I can't wait to get to heaven and meet her!

Kristina, drug use is no more a sin than taking the Lords name in vain or being arrogant or prideful. We all fall short of the Glory of God. The fact that she battled addictions is NOT any kind of evidence that her faith was not real to her. If we could handle our lives on our own and if we could love each other perfectly, we would not need a savior.

Wow, it's hard to see such hard attitudes. I'm not one that's given to "worshiping" stars. I rarely know their names. BUT, when I do watch a biography or read one, or in this case, hear about them after their death.. I am able to look past the warts and see the person God intended for them to be.

It is my personal opinion that judgmental attitudes towards those that struggle is uglier than anything they are doing. I've never drank a drop of alcohol in my life. I've never smoked a joint or a ciggarette. One of the worst things I've had to see as a mom is my oldest smoking. But I am so proud of her for quitting. I love her regardless. I just want her healthy. But you know what? No matter how rightesously I may have tried to be in my life or however many good choices I made...I'm not one tiny little bit better than those that are struggling with drugs. I don't like laziness. That's probably the area where I struggle with being judgmental. BUT, I GIVE and GIVE and GIVE money in ways that end up in the pockets of people that wouldn't last a single day following me around on the job.

So sad. Her bodyguard talked today about how mean people are towards entertainers. He said lots. He spoke the truth.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It was totally amazing and I am glad they allowed it all to be seen. It was 4 hours long. I didn't know a funeral could be that long.

As for the family wanting it to be private... They respect her fans. They wanted them to stay at arms length because there was no room anywhere for throngs of people. But they wanted her fans to share in her life because they made it clear that she loved her fans.

No, And I don't think it should have even broadcast on TV.
A funeral should be private for friends and family of the departed.
Putting it on TV is tacky and disrespectful

To answer your question, no. Have no interest in attending or watching a funeral for someone I did not know. That is a private affair for friends and family.

I was a fan of Whitney Houston's music and sorry she passed away, but to be honest, I was not at all surprised that it happened. I didn't watch the funeral today, but have heard many wonderful things about the service. I hope Whitney is with God now and really believe that she is despite all of her struggles in life. He is merciful and gracious that way. None of us are perfect and can say we have been sinless, but only God knows our true hearts and I think underneath it all Whitney Houston was always that shy little girl trapped in this famous public image a bunch of Hollywood types created. May her family and especially her daughter and Bobby Brown turn to the Lord for comfort during this sad time and not to drugs and alcohol.

I didn't watch it. It just seemed like an intrusion into what I think should be a private time for family and friends.

FWIW... Maybe its just me but I think it is wrong to write mean things about a person who just died. We've all made choices in our lives that we aren't proud of. Hers were just publicized for all to see.
She had an amazing gift. A voice that could bring all the people in a packed stadium to tears (not to mention all the folks watching from home) with her version of the National Anthem.

She died. It's sad.

May she rest in peace.

No. I've been purposely staying away from the coverage stemming from her death. I didn't know her personally, and I consider death & putting someone to rest a very personal thing, not something complete strangers need to see.

No one cared has cared about what she's been doing for 20 years, and now everyone's jumped on the bandwagon like they personally knew her. It's just weird to me & sad that the media will take any opportunity to exploit someone for the sake of ratings & money.

I was a huge fan of hers when she was making hit records & I'd rather remember her how she was then. It's just disappointing when such a talented, blessed person doesn't seek the help they need & ultimately throws that talent & opportunity to do good in the garbage.

Yes, we watched it. We were fans before her downfall. One of our first dates was to see her in concert.
I don't worship celebrities or any person. But I don't think it was wrong to televise the service. To her family it was "bring church."

I'm doing my accounting homework with little breaks here and there. My husband watched all of it. I listened while he was watching...it was moving to say the least. I loved the message as well, but then again, I haven't heard Marion Wynans when I haven't liked him.

But no, I would not have turned it on by my own choice.

Didn't even know it was today. Didn't really care. While her voice was certainly amazing it doesn't mean that I want to be at her funeral, televised or in person. I personally have to wonder WHY on earth they are broadcasting it! Isn't it rather personal and an invasion of privacy? But, I guess she's dead so they didn't really care? I don't know.

I didn't watch the funeral. I think it was nice that they televised it though because even people you've never met can have a deep impact on you. So, I feel it was very kind of the family to allow others to share in the celebration of Whitney Houston's life.

L. and Sandy L what you ladies stated was on point. There is so much more to people than the mistakes they make. Sadly, it is lost on the people here that think it's okay to talk so poorly about someone. Funny how they don't seem understand why people who never met WH are touched by her passing to the degree of wanting to watch her funeral, YET, HERE THEY ARE, having never met her, knowing only gossip about her, bashing her death. Does it get any lower than that?

Anyway, these people will continue to be judgmental because it makes them feel superior. The only judgment they dislike is when they feel it's directed at them or people they care about. Other than that they think everyone else is fair game to be put down. Perhaps if any of these people has a daughter who at some point "likes to get beaten up by her boyfriend" or a "junky" son who "chose" that life then they will see things differently. I certainly hope it wouldn't have to come to that in order to enlighten anyone or cause them to FINALLY have some compassion, BUT with THIS crowd, you just never know.

I watched a few minutes of it, but had some issue. I totally understand that she was a star and she was a good actress and an unbelieveable performer. But the problem I had was with flags at 1/2 mast. Not sure that I understand that one.

I do hope that her daughter finds peace with everything that has happened. I believe that living in the spotlight has to be hard. Whitney has lost her deamons now, may she rest in peace.

Oh my GOODNESS! Then you need to start checking out some of her cd's at the library! I grew up listening to her music! My husband and I just watched "The bodyguard" the other day, it was on Lifetime network so check your local listings! I watched alittle of it then had to finish up some laundry. It will probably be on again either on VH1 or E! so i'm sure i'll beable to watch it again. She was such a wonderful music legend and will continue to be remembered dearly! She will definately be missed!

No. She lost all my respect and admiration when she chose a drug/addiction filled life. I have known and do know plenty of people who have fought addiction(s)...she in my eyes did not fight hard enough.

I think she was a fabulous singer, who did wonders with her voice before the internet explosion, she accomplished a lot...but in my opinion this was not for us to watch, or be apart of.

Nope. Missed it completely. I'm sure it will be headline news for the next few weeks though.

As I understand it, WHitney's family feels as though they shared her with the world while she was alive--they wanted her all to themselves in death. Understandable.

Maybe the bigger question here is what has her life and death TAUGHT us personally?

I believe her life AND death clearly illustrate the no-none-never aspect of addiction. IF you are an addict, an alcoholic, etc., there can be NO fence-sitting. You can't do drugs "a little" or drink "some" here and there.

It will get you eventually: You will end up institutionalized or dead.
Sadly, all the money, notoriety and influence in the world could not make Whitney understand this fact. And her death is that result. Very sad.

last night I caught a bit of i think it was 20/20 they did her bio and one of the things the former bodygaurds said was they never let her take a bath showers only and if she did take a bath she was checked on every 7 mins without fail. this was years and years of her life. and on the day she died her fam was the one looking out for her and they left her alone for over an hour before they checked in on her, who knows if they would have followed what her old BG used to do she would still be here today. I'm not saying that I'm a fan but hind sight is 20/20, and as for the insecuritities all actors and performers have them thats why they do what they do to get the attention good/bad that they need.
