a while ago i asked for opinions because it was getting closer to the day of my ultrasound where we would find out the sex of the baby.. i kno my fiance really wanted a boy and i kind of did too but honestly i was just excited to find out.. i was worried that he would be dissapointed if it was a girl.. well we went thrusday and ITS A GIRL!!! he wasnt dissapointed at all.. just in shock for about 15 minutes on the ride home from the doctor.. hes very happy that we have a healthy baby girl who will be coming in july. i am very excited and have been since the second the nurse told us.. but now that its been a few day and iv been looking at girl baby stuff.. im realizing that for the most part im stil the tomboy i was growing up. believe me im excited for a baby girl however the thought crosses my mind occasionally of like what am i gna do with a little girl and that i hope shes a tomboy and would rather play sports then take dance lessons. did anyone else feel like this after finding out they were having a girl ???

I REEEEEEAAALLLY didn't want a girl. It wasn't even healthy how much I did not want a girl, and how worried I was that I was going to have one. We waited to find out sex at birth. My first was a girl!!!!! My heart felt instantly so happy ad blessed and like, "WHAT WAS I THINKING??!" I was soooooo happy I had a girl! I WAS MEANT TO HAVE A GIRL! I now have two girls and one boy. I LOOOOVE MY GIRLS. They are part tomboy, part girly girls and 100% awesome! CONGRATULATIONS! You're going to have such a blast with her!

I'm a big tomboy myself, but LOVE having 2 girls! My oldest is a tomboy who likes sports and climbing trees and catching bugs, etc. but is getting more girlie now that she's almost a teenager. My youngest is in the middle. She likes doing things like acting like a power ranger but she'll do it in a tutu. :) I've totally embraced the "pink" side of having a girl. Her room is all pink and green with flowers and butterflies. I love it!!! Never thought I would but I do. So much more now than with my first.
Congrats on the news and whether or not she likes sports, you'll find that having a girl is so much fun!

W/ my 2nd, I wanted a boy (long story involving loss).
In my heart, I knew he was a boy.
Then yep...there he was on the screen in all his boy glory.
And even though "I knew"-it was still a (huge) shock.
A part of me really wanted a little sister for DD though, and for a few weeks I was a little bit sad about not having another girl. (I originally wanted a gaggle of girls.) :)
My son was born-and he is so wonderful.
He is all boy...and that terrifies DH and me. DH is not a sports guy.
But it will be ok.
Your little girl will be wonderful!
I've learned to not put expectations on my kids before they are even here...it only causes heartache. Just don't do it!!!
Don't feel guilt over your feelings! Acknowledge them and move on.
Congrats on the baby girl!!!

I totally did, especially since I had a 18 month old boy who was ALL boy. I had no clue what to do if my daughter was a girly girl.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years: my daughter loves pink and dollies. Has 3 Barbies. Her favorite way to play is "pretend mommy". She has to have bows in her hair every day, and whines till she gets them. But... she also runs, and plays, and swims, and can hit a T-Ball harder than her brother. She is a rough and tumble girly-girl, and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

I am sure you are not the only one to feel this way! Don't stress yourself out...everything will be OK and click into place and you will love every second of it!

~I was the exact opposite though...having 2 stepsons then 2 boys of my own, when we found out we were having a girl I was so thrilled we embraced every pink, frilly, baby dolls, ponies, nail polish, tu-tu wearing dance class out there :)

You'll be FINE. I had my moment of gender disappointment with DD but I wouldn't trade my dinosaur loving, purple dress wearing, power tool and butterfly obsessed girl for anything. Your baby girl will be who she will be and you'll be a fine momma to her, whether she's a tomboy or not. If I (who can't tell a field goal from a fumble) can learn to appreciate football for my stepson's sake, you can learn to appreciate dance if that's what she's into. Seeing who they turn into can be really fun, even if it's not exactly what you'd pick yourself.

Of course. But it will work out just fine. Your daughter (whatever her personality) will only know what a mom is supposed to be based upon what YOU do. She will have no other expectations. So you don't have to live up to ANYTHING. Just love her. You'll figure the rest out.

My daughter is pretty much a tomboy. So I struggle with trying to encourage her to dress more feminine and embracing what is wonderful about being a girl... while I totally relate to her always wanting to wear jeans and such. It's a tight line to walk sometimes (she's 10) because I don't want to push "sexy" on her at all. But so many of the "feminine" styles out there for girls are just that. She exhibits no interest in mani-pedi stuff (neither do I, imagine that) so that isn't really a way to go. :/

It was kind of a shock with my first but with the genders reversed--we were both hoping for a girl and got a boy first (then a girl second). My son is such a typical boy it sometimes it drives me nuts but he is a great kid in so many ways. My daughter flips flops from girly to daredevil tomboy trying to do everything her brother does (even thought he is 3 years older and twice her size). But I assure you, you will love the kid you get once you meet her.

I was so disappointed when I found out I was having a girl. She was my first, and I had hoped for a boy. I was speechless for days....

I love her lots now. My daughter does dance but she prefers rough housing with the boys to playing with dolls. They tend to like what they are exposed to.

Well, for me it was when I found out I was having a boy. LOL I grew up with two sisters and my first child is a girl. I thought I wanted her to have a sister and someone to play dolls with, dress up, share secrets, etc. At first I was a little excited to find out we were having a boy, but then I got a little anxious. I remember about a month later getting things ready and I just started crying and had to confess to my DH that I think I really wanted a girl. I felt HORRIBLE! I came around to the idea and OMG, I totally can't imagine having this little guy around (1) and I love that he offers something completely different from what I thought I wanted. BTW, my dd is into BOTH dance and soccer (4). She plays in the mud, plays with dolls, kicks a ball, swings a bat, giggles over a tea party. It's great. Good luck and congrats on a baby girl!

I did!!! But my daughter has taught me more than I ever thought I would learn! I'm sure you've heard that but It's really tri and the thing is that she has part of you in her and so there is a good chance that she will be open to so many more things if you are. I grew uP and still am a tomboy and my daughter is one too but she has girlie aspects of her personality that are naturally there that I've never encouraged but have embraced. For example, sometimes I wear perfume instead of showering and so one day she saw me and wanted some too. So, after a couPle of times I started asking her If she wanted some while we were getting dressed together (regardless of showering or not). She also likes shoes and jewelry so we have days where we play and embrace those girlie parts of ourselves and I have learned to find my own beauty as a woman through that. At the same time, we are both open to gettIng our hands dirty and playing hard. She loves to hike and find stocks and rocks and is the only one In our toddler hiking class that will pick up banana slugs in the blink of an eye, even when the boys are scared of them. I love having a daughter and although I had major fears because of my dysfunctional past with my own mother I've come to face so many of those and have learned to love myself much more because of what my 3 year old daughter has taught me so far. Best of luck to you!

I have a friend who had 2 boys and was a lil shellshocked to have a girl for her 3rd...my friend is NOT a girly girl at all...and her daughter has always worn pink, been in frills and ruffles and hair bows (yes, my friend has LOVED dressing her pretty) and this girl is super smart and loves being the lil 6 yr old diva that she is!

No matter who she turns out to be, you'll love her more than you can imagine!

I was so delighted with finding out the sex of each of my children, I was excited whether boy or girl. The first girl was a little more exciting, I guess, because we had three boys, but all were special experiences.

Congratulations. Good luck to you and yours.

i wanted girls. didn't find out my kids' sex before they were born because i REALLY loved the surprise aspect, but i was convinced they'd both be girls. i have 5 brothers.
i wanted a dang girl.
and i know it's cliched, but from the moment i laid eyes on their squished squinty red squalling faces, it was pure love. i can't imagine anything more wonderful than being the mother of boys.
you will be FINE. you will be awesome. you are going to rock the girl momma thing, and find crazy delight in tea-parties and glitter paint like you never believed you would.
and she's gonna love having a mom who teaches her how to hit a baseball and rock-climb.
