If shaving made hair grow back thicker than all men who fear losing their hair would shave their heads to keep a full hear of hair. It's a myth!! Don't worry, his hair will come in eventually.

I never shaved but I will have you know my son barely had hair until he was 18 months old....little patches here and there....now his nickname is Kramer (from Seinfeld). He has absolutely gorgeous....seriously people stop me in the street...hair...curly light brown/blonde. It will grow back but don't touch it again...let nature take its course.

My first son had alot of hair by one year, but it was very thin and pin straight (exactly like mine growing up!) so at 14 months (Mid-March) he shaved it with a razor! I was not too happy. It was still cold out! How would he like to be baby's butt bald in that weather! Anyway, he wore a hat almost 24 hours a day. It took a good 4 weeks before he looked like we had buzzed it really short and stopped looking like he was in cancer treatment. His hair grew in slightly wavier and slightly thicker, but I think that it would have happened anyway.

My now 14 month old son has very little hair. I would not allow him to do that to him too at this point. I feel his head is cold enough with what little hair he has.

If you have already done it, there is nothing you can do now, so put a hat on him to keep him warm and wait and see what happens.

This is very common in my culture. They shave all the boy's hairs at about this age so it would grow thincker. Most of the men have thick hairs in my culture, so it may be worth it. I didn't do it for my son, because he was born with a full head of hair already. Anyway, don't feel bad. It's just hair, and it will grow back eventually. Think of it this way, it's not going to grow any slower that it's normal course. If it doesn't turn into a full head of hair right away, then there he wasn't going to have it anyway. Remember it's just hair, and it will grow back eventually. If it bothers you, then put a hat on him it's a good season for it :)

When my daughter was about 6 months old she had really bad cradle cap. I scrubbed her head to try to get rid of it and in the process I got rid of all of her hair. I was so embarassed. She is 9 now and has a beautiful head of hair ;)
It did take quite a while to grow back, but by the time she was 1 you couldn't even tell.
Babies are fairly resilient, I am sure he will be fine! Plus, he is a boy...it isn't as bad if they have no hair.

I know the Indian culture does this at age 1 for both boys and girls. And I know some african-americans who didn't shave the head until 1. I honestly don't think that it's going to make the hair grow in any fuller. My son's hair started growing in super thick at 2, and my daughter is almost 2 1/2 and her hair is still super thin (she's also a blond). Thin or thick has to do with genetics and no matter how many times you shave his head that isn't going to change that. However, with the weather getting cold I'd make sure he has a hat on his head.

I think this is a myth. The shaving of the head will make it grow in thicker FASTER, but that would have happened anyway if you did nothing.

I have no problem with mothers shaving babys' head. It is common in many cultures. But it's not for me. I can never touch my son's beautiful tight curls. When he was a baby, he had wavy hair. It transformed slowly to straight, then to very right coily hair (like mine, I am African American). It got to the point where I could not manage his hair easily. My husband wanted me to cut it, but when he saw the tears welling in my eyes, he backed off.

I better learn to start crying on command! I never want to cut my little boy's hair!

i had the same problem with my daughter. i asked the pediatrician who said shaving off baby's head to have hair grow is old wives tale
:)
i was tempted though, but never did it. her hair started growing better when she turned 3. she still has very fine hair and much less than her twin sister.
be glad he won't remember this :)

Hi M.,

Maybe you should have written before you shaved :) When my son was born he had great hair, 3 weeks in his hair thinned out and he looked like a monk. I did nothing and by 6 months he had dark thick curls, it's all heriditary. My girlfriend from S.America shaved her daughters head, a custom and it grew in all uneven and splotchy. We made her stop after the second attempt and the baby now 10 months has a fine head of hair. It'll grow back...promise
