Diaper Suggestions for a Belly Sleeping Boy

My 8 month old son loves sleeping on his tummy. Only problem is, his diapers leak after a few hrs because there is only so much pee that the front panel can hold. Then, of course, he wakes up wet and cold (which doesn't help with our efforts to get him to sleep through the night.) Was just wondering if there were better diapers made just for boys (especially the belly sleepers!!) We are using Pampers Baby Dry right now (they are supposed to last up to 12 hrs). Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

My friends son would sleep on his belly with his butt in the air, so the pee would leak on his belly. She would put feminine hygiene pads inside his diaper across the top.

Funny! I've been having the same problem recently!! I've changed the sheets 3x this week - I've had it! I started using Huggies Overnight diapers in Size 4 (he still wears a size 3) and added a "diaper doubler" inside. Worked like a charm! The only place I've seen these diaper doublers is at Babies r Us, they are in the diaper section, bottom shelf and cost $3.49 for 30 of them. They look like old school kotex, long and rectangular. There isn't any sticky backs, you just put it over his little pecker and tuck the rest under his butt (they are kinda long). Be sure the top of it is NOT sticking out the top of the diaper. Good luck!

You can always add a maxi pad in the front.

And I second the suggestion to make sure his wee willy winkie is aiming south!

Way back when my 15 year old was a baby, we had that problem too. I switched to Huggies and never had the problem again. Not sure if they are made the same today as back then. Good luck finding something!!

Have you tried putting the diaper on backwards?

Go up a size in diaper (look for nighttime diapers) and make sure everything is headed south for the night. That should solve your problem.

My son was having this problem too, but since he has chunky legs, we had to go up to the next size diaper. Since the larger size is longer, the problem stopped. We have used huggies, pampers, sams club, luvs, target, and babiesrus brands and have had the same results with each one.

Huggies fits bigger than pampers. So the front is up higher and should help your problem.

Can you diaper him backwards? Seems plausible. My sister double diapered hers (next size up) since he was such a heavy pee-er.

We had this issue when my now almost 7 year old was a baby. We ended up using a size larger diaper at night and we added a diaper liner. Which is like a large maxi pad without the sticky strip. It worked but the liners were hard to find. Doesn't someone make special overnight diapers too?

whenever my girlie did that I knew it was time to go up a size in diapers, even if she didn't make the weight cut-off yet. it makes a big difference. if you have just bought a pack of the current size, just put two on a night. if he leaks through, the other diaper is there to catch it. if he doesn't, just take off the wet inner and reuse the dry outer. (i also used this trick if i broke off one of those tricky tape fasteners) good luck!

My guy didn't sleep on his tummy but leaked so I went to the Pampers Extra Protection (made for night.) I also found that if I tucked in the top, front and back, before I fastened the strips he had no leaks, ever.

I can't speak to the boy part, but I do know that Overnight diapers saved my life, so much less heartache and laundry!

Good luck!

We had the same problem with our little guy and two different things worked...Huggies night diapers in a size bigger than he usually wore during the day OR double diapering (which is a suggestion I got from this website!) Put on his usual night diaper and then put another diaper (usually a size bigger) over it. Also make sure to fold the top of the diaper down into the diaper which will help contain some pee as well! Good luck!
