Diaper Recommendation?

My 9 month old daughter has recently started sleeping on her belly and, for the first time, we've had problems with her diapers leaking at night. She is sleeping through the entire night (thank goodness - she never did that while sleeping on her back!), but waking up in the morning all wet up the front of her sleeper. We have always used Pampers Swaddlers because they seem to fit her better than Huggies. She is small for her age (15 lbs) and has a little waist, so she's still wearing a size 2. I haven't tried yet, but we could possibly move her up to a size 3. I think most of the "over night" diapers start in size 3. Has anyone had good results with a particular diaper? I would especially like to hear your recommendations if you have a stomach sleeper. As I mentioned above, she never had leak problems while sleeping on her back.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! Many of you recommended moving up a size and many of you seem to like Luv's for at night, so I combined that advice. I've been putting size 3 Luv's on her at night and sticking with the size 2 Pampers during the day. We've had 4 dry nights now.

My daughter just finished her science fair project, which was on which diaper holds the most fluid!!
Luvs came up the winner! cheap and they smell good too!
I would try moving up a size for night time, seems to work good for most!

Hey I too have a very skinny son and he sleeps on his tummy. His diappers were leaking too and i also use pampers, I just went up to a bigger size and I have had no problems sence. I dont think that you would have to switch brands just use a 3 at night. Good Luck!

I had the exact same problem with my little one. Same age, same time frame if I remember right. So I went a size bigger in the Walmart brand. I still do it now and she's 15 mos. old. She wore the swaddlers through size two. Then I tried all kinds and ever since she wears Huggies size 3 for everything except at night size 4 the walmart brand parents choice. A few of my friends do it as well and it works for them.

Just a note: my son had frequent leaks out of his diaper at night, he is a flip flop kind of sleeper. It did help when I went up a diaper size, but I also noticed the tighter I put the tabs he didn't leak. during the night your stomach gets smaller, due to digestion/urinating. so to keep the diaper from getting too loose I would remember to make it a little more snug to accomodate for the shrinking of the tummy, but still comfortable for him. Also I make sure more diaper is in the front then in the back. It has helped in our situation. Now he can snuggle with us during his awakening time instead of rushing to get his clothes off.

My daughter always flipped to her tummy during her sleeping. We had problems with store brand diapers, tried Pampers, still leakes, went to the expensive stuff (Huggies), still leaking. Then we tried Luvs. Only have had a few issues with leaks and that had more to do with the diaper not being put on well and when we were ready for the next size. Luvs are the ONLY diapers I would ever reccomend, and my daughter's Ped. loves them too. She knew someone that worked for Pampers, and she said Luvs are made on the same line, but more absorbant and cheaper. Also, they were the only diapers that didn't give my daughter rashes (she has very sensitive skin and would break out to the point of bleeding). My daughter is now 3 and we still use Luvs.
Good Luck!

I would recommend giving the cheaper diapers a try. I have one that can use them and one that gets a rash. I used to use only Pampers on the girls and then once I had 3 in diapers I thought I'd try to save a little money. Why buy expensive if you don't have to. I get the cheaper ones at Sam's Club and they are like 11 cents each! I do know people that use the Target brand and love them. They are just about as cheap.
At night I would just try a larger size to start with because the overnights are great but they are much more expensive. Just try a size 3 and pull it a little higher in the front at nighttime.
Good luck,
J.

Hi L.. My son is 13 and my daughter is 9, but when they were babies, I could never find a diaper that worked well. Then I tried Luv's. They were great, and over the years I am sure they have improved even more. Good luck.

We had the same problem. I went to the size 3 pampers with the flex. Make sure you get them on as tight as you can because their bellys shrink up to an inch at night. Hope this helps.

Hey L.!

Sometimes all it takes is moving them up to the next size even if they haven't hit the weight limit yet. My son always slept on his tummy (wouldn't sleep on his back at all!), and we only used Pampers products. We rarely had leaks. We used the Pampers Baby Dry after they came with stretchy tabs & loved them. Huggies always gave us leaks.

We never had to use an overnight diaper though... the next size usually did the trick. Chase was small for his age too - he's 3 and only 28 pounds! He never made it out of size 4s before potty training!

Good luck!

I always put a bigger size diaper on my daughter than she probaly really needed. I didn't like them to be tight. And I think when they fit real good sometimes they leak. I would try a bigger size or try Huggies overnights. I prefer pampers for normal use but always liked huggies overnights.

Hello, I saw your post on here and thought I would write to you and let you know that my 1 year old son sleeps on his stomach and I have found that the best diaper for this is the cheaper Sam's Club brand. I think it is calld Advantage, not totally sure, but it's the one that obviously isn't the name brand ones. I hope that this helps you!

We used Luvs for my daughter and she never leaked. I had a friend whose little guy leaked no matter what so she would put two diapers on him at night.

Hi L., I had this same problem about a month ago, when my son started to sleep on his tummy. I use pampers cruisers by day (which you might want to consider, if she would fit in to them, i like them alot better than swaddlers or baby dry) and I use huggies overnights for the night time and they do the job. Hope you find something that works, I now its no fun for baby or mom when you wake up to a wet baby!

We use cloth diapers, and we never have leaks. We also never have blowout poops, or diaper rash. It saves a ton of money, and the enviorment-Gross fact: it takes over 100 yrs for a sposie to decompose. Think about it..... sposies that you wore when you were a baby are still sitting there in a landfill....yuck!

i never had a problem with my daughter leaking through with pampers. the only thing i could think of is that the size 2 swaddlers just arent working anymore. you could use the pampers cruisers or baby dry by pampers. baby dry would work and you could probably keep her in a size 2 if you try those. i havent had any problems with those ones. i never thought that the swaddlers held much. if the size 2 baby drys dont work move on up in size just to try it.

I use the White Cloud brand from Wal-mart. Both of my girls have always been stomach sleepers and I can not recall ever having a problem with leaking. Another plus is there are significantly cheaper than Huggies, Luvs and Pampers!!

Most of my friends use pampers, but I like luvs and huggies. (pampers give my daughter a rash). I use luvs during the day and huggies at night. They seem to pull moisture away from the body better for a ful nights sleep.

Everyone is right, moving up a size in your current brand should do the trick.

Good luck;)

Moving up a diaper size can help. We use Pampers Cruisers with my son and he goes peroidic times of leaking. Huggies Overnights were recommended and they work great! My son is in size 4 Pampers, but I moved him up to a size 5 Huggies Overnights and I have been SO impressed. For us, all the cheaper diapers have only leaked worse. I have tried them all, except for the ones at dollar stores.

Good luck!

If you have a Walmart nearby, pick up the Parent's choice(I think that is the name) the package is yellow and there are ducks on it. I was told to use these at night when I was pregnant with my daughter and they worked great for me. I used Huggies during the day and those at night. Hope this helps!

Our son has slept on his stomach since he was born (I know not recommended, but it was the only way he'd sleep). We used Pampers because my husband like the way they fit better -- however, when Drake started sleeping through the night the diapers leaked (every night). We switched to Huggies Supremes and have had no problems since then. Also, we have not yet had any problems with Drake and diaper rash. Our son is about 15lbs now (although he is only 6mo.)

I know you got lots of advice, so good luck.

Hi,
My daughter Claire is very petite for her age too. I was having a major problem with her pampers leaking. I sent an angry email to Pampers and they sent me a free coupon for a pack of diapers. They suggested I go up a size in diapers. My normal brand is Luvs which I usually have no probs with. Luvs are very inexpensive (20.00 for a case of 108) and I don't have the leakage problems. Plus they offer a leak free guarntee.
I also try to limit the bottles she gets before going to bed or overnite to avoid leakage.

Move her to the next size. That should solve your problem! We have used Pampers with both of our girls after trying other brands, and the best solution for us was to move up a size--I just had to do it this week again for my youngest (she is fine when she is on her back, but overflows when she sleeps on her stomach). We just kept them in the regular diapers (we use the pampers baby dry), not the overnights. Good luck--hopefully you won't have as much laundry:)

I found that different diapers worked better than others too. I didn't like Huggies for her. They didn't seem to fit her right. I use Luvs now for my daughter. They are pretty reasonable and I haven't had any leakage problems. She is also a stomach sleeper. My oldest son was a stomach sleeper and I used Luvs for him too. I don't remember any problems with him. Good luck with this.

Whenever my son's diapers started to leak, it was time to move him up a size. That always solved the problem, even if he still was in the supposed size range of the smaller diaper. We used, and loved, Pampers. Good luck!
