My son has had a couple yeast infections...it looks like larger diaper rash bumps in little clusters. They get very red and then seem to dry up but they don't go away. If it is they just prescribe med cream that actually treats athlete's foot. Pretty easy to deal with and no big deal. The med cream takes about 2 weeks to clear it all the way up. Hope this helped.

I would say that is exactly what it is. While there are losts of "home" remedies already given (and tried and true), my kids have benefited EXTREMELY well from a product called PINXAV (pink salve). The only places I have found it retail wise is Atrium Hospital pharmacy (Middletown OH, I believe it is called Midd Care Pharmacy) or online. It is AMAZING! My twins are constantly on antibiotics, hopefully less now that they have tubes. I started applying it as soon as they went on the drug, or at any sign of red, irritation, etc.

Just know that when you open that diaper up, you will see pink - a bit disconcerting the first few times!

Good luck!

My daughter who is 9 months had a diaper rash that woudln't go away. It developed after she was on antibiotics. I took her to the doctors and they found out that is was a yeast infection and had to prescribe her special cream for her bottom. I have also found that pink sav helps, and wash them off with a damp cloth not wipes. I hop eyour little boy gets better and that this info helps you.

My pediatrician just told me to use an over the counter vaginal yeast infection cream instead of diaper rash cream for a few days for my premature daughter's yeast infection. We applied the cream once a day and it worked great and cured the yeast infection quickly. The generic tube of ointment was $4.00 at Walmart.

If it's really red, it may be a yeast infection. You should call the doc to have it looked at. If it is a yeast infection, you don't want it to get worse. They'll probably have you use and OTC yeast infection cream. That should clear it up in a few days. Also, let him go diaperless as much as you can. Sometimes baby wipes can make diaper rashes worse, so just use washcloths and warm water when you clean him off. You may try and oatmeal bath and make sure he's totally dry after bath time before you diaper him again.

Hi M.,
Yes, he very well could have a yeast infection. I was placed on heavy antibiotics before and after delivery with my twins and one of my son developed a rash in his diaper area. The doctor treated it with topical creams which worked, but when we would stop the creams the rash would come back. I now have my son on a good probiotic system which helps to build the GOOD bacteria that needs to be in his digestive tract. We have seen positive results. Yogurt is a good source of the good bacteria (acidopholis and bifidis) like activia but that begins to breakdown once it is in the stomach. you need the good bacteria that breaks down in the colon to really help. Email me so I can help you out with a good solution, I am a natural wellness consultant and would love to help you out further. My email is ____@____.com
Have a great day-

hi! we've dealt with diaper rashes EXTENSIVELY for 2 years; the yeast rashes, the non-yeast, the bloody, etc etc. usually after a round of antibiotics, it is the 'yeast rash' which has red bumps. the only thing we've found that helps is called vusion, a prescription cream...i hope you have prescription insurance, though, b/c it's still $30 even with our very good insurance coverage. but, our pediatrician had samples! (we have gone through about 10 tubes of vusion over the past year, when we first used vusion...we now just have a standing refill b/c our daughter gets diaper rashes so often). vusion is applied only 3 times a day & topped with desitin & then the ORIGINAL desitin (not the 'creamy' version) is used with all other diaper changes (that should be applied "like cream cheese on a bagel" as a ped. has once suggested to us).

if it's not a yeast rash, what we've found that works is what our former ped (from boise, idaho where we used to live) is called "butt paste" which is a mixture of same parts (we used 2 oz. each) (original) desitin, hydro cortisone cream, antibiotic ointment, & vusion (or another prescription yeast cream). just mix it up in a plastic container (we found a knife works best) until thoroughly mixed; it is applied every diaper change.

we also have tried mixing a dye free/scent free antacid (such as malox) with desitin which helps reduce the acidity of either the urine or stools.

also...do 'diaper off time', which is very messy (urine is usually everywhere) & when our daughter was that age we just put her on the changing table & kept her entertained for up to an hour. we do this several times a day. the air is really the best thing for rashes, especially the yeast rashes (b/c yeast grows in wet, dark places, like diapers...) so the more fresh air & light that you let in, the faster the rash will go away. be prepared with lots of either cloth diapers to put under the bottom (or towels). this gets more difficult the more mobile the child is (esp a 2 year old who refuses to be potty trained!).

i hope this helps! we really battle diaper rashes at least twice a month, so if you have more questions, please email me, i'm very well versed in these rashes ;o). really, you will most likely have to make a trip to the pediatrician to get a prescription. after antibiotics & a stubborn rash, prescription paste is really the only thing we've found that helps.

I use Resinol for any kind of diaper rash that my daughter gets. Actually, I use it for EVERYTHING! You can use it for scrapes, scratches, dry skin and some other things. I just put some on a nasty boo boo my SD got at school the other day and she said it helped take the sting out and was "feeling better already". I got my tube at Wal-Mart and you have to go to the pharmacy counter and ask for it. It's not an RX, but that's where they keep it now. It's like $6-$7 dollars but I have had mine for a while now and still have 3/4 of it left. I love the stuff and told my sister-in-law to get some for my neice's dry skin. I have put it on her before and was better by the next day! You wouldn't believe how fast this stuff works and it doesn't have an odor and doesn't burn when you put it on. Try it and I promise you by 2-3 times of using on him you will see it started to get less of the redness and some of the bumps will already be going away.
Another thing is I have found that if my Ped. puts my kids on Augmentin (spelling) that they break out EVERYTIME. The new Ped. I have said that it's too strong for kids' systems and even some adults. Not sure what type he was/is on, but that might be the cause as well.
Good Luck!

My daughter got a yeast rash after being on antibiotics and my Dr. told me to buy an otc antifungal, same that is used for athlete's foot. It worked like a charm! I had my doubts at first but it worked so quickly and was much less expensive then the perscription.

Also, try using Triple Paste diaper cream. Yes it is expensive but it works. Slather on a thick layer after a diaper change each time. That should clear it up quickly.

Buy a tube of A&D ointment, put the entire tube into a small tupperware container and heat in microwave just until liquidy. (I would recommend several 30 second intervals and lots of stirring so it doesn't splatter so much.) Then add about 1/3 of the same amount of liquid malox into the melted ointment and mix it together with a plastic spoon. Once it cools down it will stay mixed and is a great ointment for rashes like this. The A&D heals the rash and the malox neutralizes the acid in the urine which cures the yeast infection (and feels great on the little ones bottom). This was recommended to me by my pediatrician. However, if a yeast infection goes on too long it can become infected so if you are worried have your pediatrician check it out anyway.

My daughter got alot of diapers rashes from either antibotics or from teething. steroid cream the doc usually wotked. But they also told me i could mix malox and aquaphor lotion together and put her rash. It works wonderfully! I keep it mixed up and in the diaper bag it really works. I hated to keep putting on steroid creams on her and most you can only put on every 12 hours. Hope you little guy feels better!

I would say that is exactly what it is. Due to the fact that your son is on an antibiotic. Check out this site, I found it very informative. My daughter got a yeast infection as an infant also and I found corn starch to help relieve the discomfort (old wives tale from grandma) but you will need to seek medical advise. Here's the web address and good luck. http://ezinearticles.com/?Dont-Confuse-Your-Babys-Yeast-I...

An easy and quick fix for persistent diaper rash is to get acidophilus and add cool water to some of the powder to make a runny paste. Pat it over the rashy area and let it dry. Do it every single time you change the diaper. It will clear up quickly.

Also, in the future, always give your baby acidophilus whenever he is on antibiotics. My children take it daily. They have a powdered version for babies you can put into pumped breast milk, formula, or any cold food.

If it is a yeast infection then I would try yeast guard. It is an all natural lotion that you can rub on and it isnt harsh. I used it with my daughter and it worked wonders. I got it at Kroger I'm not sure where else it is available. Good luck.

sounds like a yeast infection to me. Every time my son is on antibiotics, I put Monistat cream on him cus Yeast Infections HURT. I always keep a tube of cream in my house, just in case. I learned that early on, because I get the same problem when I have to take antibiotics and the first time my son took the perscription, he got the infection too so now as soon as the first dose, i put the cream on him. Good luck

Yes, it's probably yeast. Any time you or your child is on antibiotics, you should follow up with equal amount of time on probiotics (from any Whole Foods or vitamin store). The refrigerated type are the best. Get him a round and if it still doesn't go away, talk to his ped. about getting him on something for it.

Hi, M.! Though my son was alot older than your little precious one, I also suffered through healing his yeast infection. My doctor recommended using Lotromin AF cream on him. Name brand can be expensive so it's okay to use a store brand antifungal cream that cures athlete's foot/jock itch. We mixed this cream with vasaline and greased him up at every diaper change, packing it on extra thick for overnight. Consult your doctor before trying this because he is only 8 mos old-also ask if it could be a possible allergic reaction to the antibiotic he was on post op. Hope this helps your little pumkin!!

This is totally embarassing but worth sharing the knowledge. I recently got over an external yeast infection and my doc gave me some comfort tips that I never heard of! He suggested taking lukewarm baking soda sitz baths, dabbing dry with a towel then finishing with a hair dryer on the cool setting. It made a world of difference and eased the discomfort greatly. You may be able to adapt some of these methods to help your little guy! Of course, check with your doctor first!
