my daughter recently moved up in size in diapers a couple days ago. when i moved her up i changed to LUVS and she got a really bad diaper rash that is just now starting to go away because i went back to pampers. at the same time i was using different wipes also. has anyone else had this problem with their babies? is it the diapers?

What can I do next?

It could be the wipes. Some babies have a bad reaction to the chemicals in certain ones. Also, something that always works up us, Weleda diaper creme gets rid of the rash fast!

I had the exact opposite problem with diapers. I used Pampers for a while because I thought they were the best to use. I was a little broke one week and had to buy Luvs instead. My son always had a rash with the Pampers, but after I was using the Luvs it went away completely. The other thing I noticed was that the Luvs seemed more absorbant than the Pampers.

I know that when my daughter was a baby that she couldn't use any kind of diapers except pampers..... she got a really bad rash from all of the other kinds..... Until she was about 1 year. It could be the different wipes but one never knows..... my son can't have the kind of wipes that are scented.... so... it could be either.... my suggestion would be to keep with what you are using and that you know she is okay with or try anything that is parent's choice.. Cause it's pretty inexpensive and I never had a problem with anything that brand

my son never had a problem with luvs (they are actually made by procter & gamble - same company that makes pampers), but has had problems with diaper rash... regardless of the diapers. maybe it was the combination of the diapers and wipes change. i have a little bit different perspective than the other responses, since we never had problems with luvs but had tons of problems with huggies and lots of leaks with target brand. (my son is almost 3, and a size 4 diaper). i'm still a big fan of pampers, especially now that the baby dry line has the stretchy tabs.

fyi - target brand wipes for sensitive skin (the soft cloth type ones) without fragrance are by far the best wipes i've found for kids with sensitive skin. they are softer than any other wipe i've tried, and they don't sting when my son has a rash. it's the only wipe that hasn't made him cry when i've used it. just my 2 cents!

good luck!

i remember when i had switched my son from pampers to Luvs and though he didnt get a diaper rash from them the diaper just wouldnt hold the fluids as well as pampers did.. we had many many leaks.. so if your daughter has sensitive skin it may just be because the diapers are not that great (at least from my experience) and are not keeping her dry enough. if you suspect it to be the wipes i suggest going back to the previous brand you were using.

All three of my little ones could not use LUVS. I don't know if it is something in the diaper lining or what. Everytime I tried to put luvs on them all three broke out in a rash. I am able to switch pretty easily from Huggies and Pampers.

I had problems with my daughter, after she was born she had antibiotics in which one of the side effects was yeast infections. She got one before she left the hospital and a nurse on duty told me to just use vasoline and corn starch. Well, unforunately corn starch gives her severe diaper rash and I went to Balmex after that which has worked very well on her. I had trouble with diapers that put aloe in their material. I did start with Pampers because at the time, they were the only preemie diapers I could find. Then they changed their diaper material and I went to Huggies. I never had a issue with wipes because I already bought unscented ones. I ran into a huge issue with my ex-in-laws about using baby powder on her during diaper changes b/c she would get horrible diaper rash to where she was bleeding. She is now 7 years old and still experiences redness in that area, so I still keep a tube of Balmex handy :) I did have alot of trouble potty training her, I did use pull ups and tried going straight to panties. She just went wherever she was, when she was a baby she never woke up or cried b/c of a wet or poopy diaper. It didn't make a difference to her to run around with wet pants. Also if she eats too many fruits with red dye such as strawberries and watermelon she gets extremely red. I would say that you may have to just experiment a little to find what works for you :)

My daughter (who was 5.5 weeks premature) had major problems with diaper rash. For her it was the wipes. What worked best for us was I would wet some 100%cotton cotton balls with clean water and clean her with that. Then I would either blot her very gently with a very clean towel or use a hair dryer on the coolish setting and hold it a decent distance away from her and dry it gradually. The air seemed to help very much and the purity of the water and cotton balls was a huge help. Also, we used Triple Paste (when it was healed enough) as a diaper ointment. It is quite expensive but works better than anything. Now that she is older (9 mo.) I use pampers hypoallergenic, no perfume wipes. I am convinced the chemicals in the normal wipes are what caused the terrible rash. Good luck! I really hope this helps you!!! K. P.

We're a pampers only family here. All four of my kids have had to have pampers wipes, and diapers. I was told at the hospital that they use and prefer pampers, because of how mild they are!!!

I hope you're able to keep the rash away!!

I could only use the generic brand of diapers! LOL It doesn't make much sense but when Bryan was a baby he would get the most horrible diaper rashes from anything else. Which was fine since Kmart brand diapers were a ton cheaper! LOL My mother also told me that my sister and I could not wear pampers when we were babies for the same reason. Painful diaper rashes would come up. She HAD to use cloth diapers because that was the only thing that didn't make are poor little tooshies flare up. Good luck to you!

I tried LUVS with my first child and I HATED them, they leaked, sometimes they even exploded with all the filling spilling out of them and he got a rash too. I will never buy them again. I actually use the target brand diapers and like them a lot. They aren't quite as good about absorbing odors like pampers brand but for the cheaper price its worth it. (I have 3 in diapers now so I need to save $ where I can)
My older child is now 7 and I have a 2 year old and twin 1 year olds now and recently switched them all to scented wipes (bad choice!) and they all came down with a rash so if you switched to scented that may be causing a problem too.
I am thinking it is probably a combination of the two, go back to your old wipes and the diapers you were using or a different brand and it will probably get better, if not it could be a yeast infection, the doctor will tell you to get an antifungal cream from the drug store, my middle som had one last year and it took care of it right away.

E.,
Hello. Just a quick note to let you know that my sister-in-law had the same problem with Luvs with her daughter. I don't know what is in the diaper that is so different than pampers or huggies, but obviously some skin types don't agree with it. I am glad to hear that the diaper rash is going away:)

Hi E.,
It has been some time since I had my babies, but I do remember that I did have trouble with the luvs brand with my oldest. He had a very bad rash from them. Like you, I switched to Pampers and it started to go away. I don't want to say that luvs is a bad product for all babies, but I think it depends on the child. I always stayed with pampers after that and had no problems with rashes. Hope this helps.

We didn't care for Luvs either with our child. We have prefered Huggies and also, Aldi's has a diaper that we really like and they are much cheaper than Huggies. They have the stretchy tabs like Huggies and they work well. I recommend them!

Hi E.,

I am a new mom too, of a 5 month old, Graham. He also has sensitive skin and I use the pampers sensitive skin wipes, don't have scent and things that cause irritation. The best thing to do is make sure you are keeping her skin dry, so after you change her let her little skin dry off, use a soft dry cloth and pat dry before putting new diaper on. Once I did this after graham was 2 months old, he has never had another rash again. I also use aveeno diaper cream, which doesn't have chemicals in it that irritate their skin. Anyway, hope that helps!

i agree with the others, though my children did fine in luvs as they got older, but most diapers- luvs especially if you smell them, put a powder in their diapers that many kids react to. my youngest couldn't wear anything but generic- babies r us or white cloud from walmart- until she was almost a year old, otherwise she would immediately get the most horrible diaper rash that within one day would start bleeding... didn't mess around too long with that =)

when my son was 6 weeks old he had diaper rash so bad, that his skin looked raw. I tried everything, Peditrician, home made diaper wipes, cotton diapers, dermatologist, every cream on the market etc.. i took him to a holistic doc and he told me to go to walgreens and purchase pure zinc oxide, and use that on his bottom. It cleared it up in 3 days. It is Walgreens brand, and only 2.99 per tube, and has 40% zinc in it. You can find it in the same isle as cortaid and stuff.

I was told only to use the free and clear wipes with no scent, or alcohol.
I hope this helps.

Hello!
It's been a while since I've changed diapers with my son being 6 now. But what I remember is Luvs were best for boy babies. Any rashes he had were solved by corn starch in his diaper and frequent diapers changes. God Bless!

It's really common for babies sensitive skin to do good in one brand and when you switch brands do horribly. My daughter could only wear Pampers or Target Generics. She was so use to this brand I couldn't switch brands or she would get diaper rash or her eczema would get worse. Kinda stinks because sometimes other brands are really cheap or on sale.

I think it is the diapers, unless she's teething. I found that pampers, and huggies seem to keep more of the moisture away from their skin. If you're looking for a cheaper diaper that works well I have to say white cloud is the best. It is a generic wal-mart brand I have used on both of my kids.

It could just be the change from one brand to another, but it's probably fragrance. My kids have really sensitive skin, and I can't use things with dyes/lotions/fragrances on them. I bought the Pampers scented wipes for my daughter by mistake once, and all it took was two diaper changes to cause a reaction. I immediately went back to the fragrance-free ones and she's never had a diaper rash since.

Hello,
I found the biggest difference between Luvs, Pampers and Huggies is the amount of advertising they do. Luvs does not really advertise or offer coupons. For this reason they are a lot cheaper than both Pampers and Huggies. As far as quality goes I found them to all be of the same quality. My daughter is 3 and has had very few if ever diaper rashes. I would definetly check on the amount of perfume in your wipes and see if anything else has changed for your daughter, such as teething or new foods or something like that.

Good luck!

Both of my kids could not use Luvs either. I know that they are cheaper but you might find a generic store brand from Target or Walmart might be better for you. Both of my children broke out in rashes too and I also found the Luvs to leak. My daughter is now 4 and I used Huggies exclusively with her until she got to pull ups and now my son is 6 months and I only use Pampers for him. I would start with changing back to the normal brand of diapers and then if that doesn't help with her rash I would explore the wipes. Good luck.

hi. My daughter is 2 1/2. I have had those problems with my daughter. She broke out everytime we changed to different diapers. And when we changed from Pampers wipes to the cheap Walmart wipes, she also broke out. So we just stayed with the same diapers and wipes. My daughter also has exzema(spelling?). She breaks out a lot from different things. Maybe stick with the diapers you wanted to switch her too, and keep a close eye on her bottom, and use diaper rash cream. Otherwise, just keep with the old ones you were using. Hope this helps.

Both of my children have done fine with Luvs diapers. But I have a cousin who has 3 children who break out if they use the wrong wipes and she only has good luck with Huggies diapers. Try each one seperately and find it it was the diapers or wipes, then you will know to ease your mind.

E., All 4 of my children were sensitive to Luv diapers. I think there is too much "perfume" in them. A couple kids could only wear Pampers and a couple could only wear Huggies( when they weren't in cloth) Good Luck
