So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice! I tried switching diaper brands from Luvs to Pampers so far it's working. If it starts up again I may go ahead and try the cloth diapers my mom said she had to use them on me.

M.,

My daughter has eczema too. We tried Huggies and Pampers but my daughter's still irriated. We gave up the brandname and went for a cheaper one from Costco. It actually the same price as Huggies. However, once we switch to use the costco brand (kirkland I think), the skin irritation got much better. We religiously put a lot of Eucerin outside of diaper area and petroleum jelly in diaper area. She's now 2 and has almost grow out of eczema (i assume). Occationally, the skin'd flare up again but just the Eucerin and Petroleum Jelly work wonder.

Hope that help.

My son had eczema around the waist. We just used cloth diapers. They're not as scary as they seem. Just one more load of laundry. Fuzzy Bunz seemed to work best because they didn't hang on his waist, they were easy to use, they have a complete fleece liner and they're really cute. They come in all different colors.. oh, and it cuts the diaper cost by tons of money. You'll need to wash them in a laundry soap for sensitive skin, which you can get a recommedation from the person or company you buy them from. I don't recommend Dreft. It's not that great.

For cloth diapers, there's woman in New Braunfels that sells them. Her website is www.fullcirclebaby.com. She can probably recommend soap. I used the Shaklee non-frangrance brand and some vinegar.

Good Luck! My son outgrew the exzema at about 1-1/3 years.

My daughter gets irritated and the pediatrician noticed it and mentioned trying to find ones with no color around the waist...I think Huggies have no color around the waist. There is also a resale shop at Loop 1604 and nacogdoches that sells Fuzzibuns (they are not used) she just loves them and sells them. It's called Sweet Repeats.

I was going to recommend Seventh Generation for disposable or if you go the cloth route, there is a diaper service (if you don't want to deal with the diapers) that is pretty reasonably priced that I checked into, www.debbiedoesdiapers.com.

Whole Foods sells a few brands that are chlorine free and free of dyes, etc. I think Seventh Generation is one brand. They're pretty expensive though.

I'm gonna jump on the cloth wagon ;-)
When my daughter was newborn, she had a rash that wouldn't quit. A mom friend at our weekly group said that it looked like a chemical burn...so we switched to cloth (using a service at first). With only the occasional rash, she was fine from then on....even cloth diped at night.
I have lots of friend that love the fuzzibunz dipes. I use Chinese prefolds with a Bummis wrap. My dipes and wraps were purchased when dd was 3mos old....and the same ones are now used for my ds :-)

I second the recommendation for cloth diapers. My personal favorite is also Fuzzi Bunz :) I have cloth diapered both my boys and wouldn't have it any other way!

There are tons of great sites to order from (and even some stores that may be local to you) 2 of my favorites are www.wildflowerdiapers.com and www.pamperedbuns.com

Not only are they better for your baby's skin, but better for your budget and the environment!

Good luck!

Sensitive skin diapers...lololololololol....

The only thing i can think of is he means diapers that are fragrance free. Pampers and Luvs BOTH use perfumes in their diapers (made by same company)

You could try huggies.

Also, you could purchase the Aveeno eczema products and put in in the irritated area each timeyou changed him (I would do a thick layer (as a barrier between his skin and the diaper). Aveeno is pretty expensive, but it is well worth the price!!!

Good Luck

You may have to try different brands to see which one your son is not allergic to. My son was allergic to Huggies, and has eczema as well. We used Luvs and he never had a reaction to them, and they are cheaper as well. Good luck!

Hi M.,
I read somewhere that the internal temp of a disposable diaper can reach up to 104 degrees because of the petroleum in disposable diapers. I would recommend cloth diapers, and i believe you can order sampler packs to determine which is the right diaper for you http://www.cottonbabies.com/?gclid=CJeTz_f3kZMCFQG5PAodCm...
Also,
I use g diapers and i've found my son never gets diaper rash like he did with disposables. They breath a lot better and have the ease of use of disposables.

hi!! I have two sons - 3 yrs and 16 months, both have sensitive skin. my 16 month old had a dry patch of skin on the side of his hip and he would also scratch it as soon as i took off his diaper. i asked the pedi and he said it looked like maybe a latex sensitivity to the diapers. i had no idea diapers had latex. Huggies is a latex free diaper. i also used johnsons smoothing balm for dry skin. i would rub it on every time i changed his diaper and after about 2-3 weeks the patch of skin was gone. so now i use huggies diapers. i hope this helps.

My daughter had issues with severe rashes (not ezcema) and a friend gave us the Seventh Generation diapers and they didn't help. They are pretty much the same as regular diapers, just organic, so if the issue is the waist band I don't think these will help.
