Desire Feedback from Moms over 45.......are You Out There?

Well, my dear friend, conceived both her children, via IVF... and her 2nd child was born when she was about 47 years old!
It was a great normal pregnancy and no complications. And her son was born normal and healthy.

She did not like the 'process' for IVF, ie: the injections etc., but being pragmatic about it as best she could, it was fine and she endured it fine. Her husband as well.

I don't know much more... except that she now has 2 beautiful and happy children, and her pregnancies were very normal and problem free.

My daughter-in-law was over 40 when she began the process, but her doctor told her that HER chances were slim. Even with invitro, they thought she had less than a 5% chance as she was perimenopausal which happens years before the period ends. She and my son decided on egg donation. At 44, she had a gorgeous son who is the light of their lives. Good luck.

My friend did IVF with donor ovum at 45 and delivered twins right before she turned 46.
Her doctor said that she had a minimal chance of conceiving with her own eggs.
If you do use donor eggs, don't let the doctor put in too many. The young eggs generally stick.

Not a success story, but some wisdom to share. I did 3 round of AI and 2 rounds of IVF unsuccessfully around age 40. Unexplained why it didn't work. If I could do it over again, I would try one round with your eggs and see how it goes. If it doesn't work, I would try using donor eggs. It really depends on how much "suffering" you want to go through and how much money you have available. If those things are not limitations, then keep trying. We ended up adopting a beautiful little boy and are thrilled.

I am 46 with 5 1/2 year-old-twins, but I went through IVF. I had 6 failed IUIs and 4 failed rounds of IVF using my own eggs. I finally gave up on having my own biological children and decided to use donor eggs from a much younger person, and on my 5th round of IVF, with the donor eggs, there was success. The doctors could never find anything wrong with me, so it had to be that my eggs were just too old or not good enough. My embryos never looked very good with my first four rounds of IVF, but I went for it anyway.

While it is possible to have success with IVF using your own eggs, it's usually not the norm. The viability of eggs and number of eggs drops significantly before you even hit 40. Sorry, I don't mean to be a downer, but just be aware.

Also, as you read from other responses, IVF can be very emotional, especially when it does not work. Your hormones will be crazy, and unless you have health insurance, it gets pretty expensive.

A good friend of mine was 48 when she delivered her first baby through IVF. Her daughter is now 4 1/2, and about 2 1/2 weeks ago, she delivered twins at age 52, also through IVF. Therefore, I'm saying that it can happen, so I wish you the best of luck!

I will be going for my 3rd round of IVF in about 2 weeks and I turned 40 in January. We started our first two rounds this last summer, but were unable to complete them due to my body's low response to the stim. drugs. We are proceeding with our third round using an ovum donor, and we are quite excited about it.
