HI ladies,
My daughter just turned 8 and has been having bad body odor. She's had it for about a year now and i have used powder. She needs something stronger now. What kind do your girls use? I think there is a product in the deodorants we should avoid but I can't remember what that is. Her well visit is in July but she needs something now. Any advice? Thanks ladies!

My daughter just uses the same deodorant as I do. She started around eight and is now eleven. Her arms haven't fallen off or grown any extras so I think she is okay. :)

Oh I use Dove.

My 7 year old uses Tom's of Maine, as well. Unscented, I believe.

I like Dove which I *think* has less additives (you can check the cosmetics database: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/) I also think homemade deodorant works pretty well... mix 1/4 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch. Add 5-6 Tbsp coconut oil until you get the desire consistency. If the Baking soda irritates her skin, use less. Good luck!

My son, (much to his humiliation!) started with Tom's of Maine Honeysuckle scent. He has since graduated to something a bit more "manly"!

deodorant is find it's the antiperspirant that you want to avoid. But yes for kids Tom's is probably your best bet if you want natural.

My daughter (also 8) started needing deodorant at 7 also. We use Tom's of Maine~ Lavender scent. Nice and light and seems to keep her fresh.

I'd have her thyroid and pituitary levels checked as well..seems early to me! My niece had issues with that and that's what it was. If there is a problem you want it checked early to avoid problems in puberty or childbearing years. If there isn't I'd stick to natural products like toms or Jason. Products sold at whole foods, etc.

I heard that deodorant for kids no good.. I would call my pediatrician and ask about it. I would buy scented body wash and have body spray with her in her bag at school. Like at victoria secret creams the light creams and sprays vanilla etc..

The still make "Teen Spirit." I don't have girls, but that's what I used at about age 12.

8 is a bit young for BO. Perhaps you might consider changing soaps to something with LESS frangrance? That can make BO seem worse. Also, ensure she is washing and rinsing properly.

Arm & Hammer "Essentials" Natural deodorant.
It has no parabens or aluminum in it.
My 9 year old daughter uses this and it works fine.

I get Teen Spirit for my 11 year old. If you want something more natural though, go with Tom's of Maine.
