hi! i used to work as a dental assistant. we recommended it be at age 3yrs. unless for there is a specific problem. however, my pediatric dr. said they should go when they get there first tooth. i called our pediatric d.d.s and he said like i said age 3yrs.

We scheduled our son's first appointment at 2 years, 6 months. That was even challenging. As long as the teeth are coming in okay and you are brushing with gum cleaner -- a little over 2 years should be fine. It was more of an orientation for our son -- learning the equipment, got lots of stickers and then the dentist counted his teeth. We then began flouride brushings.
Hope that helps!

try to ask any dentist, with Your check up, but my doughter had 3.5 Years. it depend on the kid, when he is ready, and if You think his teeth look good You can wait. You should ask dentist about vitamins after cleaning, becouse some dentists to not offer unless you ask

When should I take my child to the dentist for the first check-up?
In order to prevent dental problems, your child should see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than his/her first birthday.

What is the difference between a pediatric dentist and a family dentist?
Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. A pediatric dentist has two to three years specialty training following dental school and limits his/her practice to treating children only. Pediatric dentists are primary and specialty oral care providers for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs.

My name is D. and I am a dental hygienist. We generally see kids between three and four years old for the first official cleaning. However, we recommend that parents bring their two to three year old in with them for their cleaning so they can see the office, get used to the staff etc. If the child seems willing, we get them in the chair and count their teeth and do a toothbrush demo to see if they are ready to be seen. If you do think that your child has a problem before the age of three, you may want to consider seeing a pediatric dentist (a child's dentist--they specialize in treating younger kids that need treatment for decay and are experts at behavior management)
Good Luck!!!

I just asked my daughter's pediatrician this exact same question at her two year checkup recently and he said to wait until she has all her teeth. She is very slow in getting them so it may not be for a while. He said that as long as we are brushing them twice a day and nothing appears to be wrong then we can take her once her teeth all come in.
