Defiant Hair

I was dealt a lousy hand when it comes to hair and my one daughter may take after me. Yesterday I attempted to put her hair in pink foam rollers after her shower. They stayed in for a few hours but I had to take them out when the hair was still slightly damp. It was still straight. Now if I could have I would have let the hair dry completely but it wasn't possible.

So my question is, is it me, genetics, or not enough time?

PS. I did use a sculpting glaze on her damp hair to give the curls a fighting chance. Oh and when I tried a curling iron with sculpting spray NOTHING!

She has beauttiful poker straight hair which is on the 'skinnier' side. No natural wave like mine which I have to straighten everyday.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice. Keep it coming!

Picture day and special occassions cause me so much grief because I can't get it to do anything out of the ordinary. I definitely give hair stylists their props! I just wish I could have one on staff ;-)

I saw on a tv program (not that I need it because I have ridiculously wavy hair) but they put a girls hair in damp skinny braids--like 4 -6 per head, let them dry then used a flat iron to "lock" the waves in before removing the dry braids. The hair was very wavy (but left an odd 3-4 inch straight section at the crown, so try to get close to the scalp when braiding....
Then I'd bet you can add scrunch spray, etc. to define it more.
Just an idea.

You need to learn how to care for and style her hair - look on youtube. Here is one I reccomend.

Do not try to style WET hair - DAMP hair is just fine - and be sure to use heat protectant when styling with heat. Damp means JUST barely wet, and foam curlers need 8-10hrs to work properly esp if used on damp hair - I suggest more like 10-12hrs for her hair.

I also have stick straight, fine hair. The only way I could ever get a curl was to 1. Use those bendable hot rollers, or 2. Damp hair wound into pin curls and left to dry completely overnight.
When your hair is stick straight, you have to use heat along with product. Also you have to let it dry completely. If you can't use heat, you have to use time.

my hair doesnt like to curl either my hairs is kinda frizzy fine and just has a slight wave.. i gave up on straighteneing it ..after years of doing that its so fried .. the only thing that ever works is a curling iron on dry hair with a little bit of hairspray so it doesnt make it wet... or curlers when its wet and then blowdry them as much as possible

When I was little my hair was the same way. My mom would put the pink soft curlers in and I would sleep in them all night. In the morning when she took them out NOTHING! Barely a kink! When I was 21 I tried to get a perm. I spent $75 and 3 wks later it was flat!! I tried again 5 yrs later and it lasted 3 months. 5 yrs later I did it again and it lasted almost a year.
Now straight hair is in. I use a straightener every morning on my straight hair to make it look smooth. Who woulda thunk!!!
My daughter has straight hair also but she has more of it. When she was little (4 to 6) and wanted curls we used the cloth curlers that twisted closed and she would sleep in them and have beautiful curls in the morning.
Good luck!!

Mine is stick straight too. The trick for waves for me is to let my hair dry naturally (usually overnight), then spray a VERY light mist of water on it and use a metal round brush and the blow-dryer. For my hair to keep a curl, it HAS to be 100% dry before I can use rollers or a curling iron. I spray Downy Wrinkle Releaser on my brush to keep the static electricity down.
