We have decided with some of our neighbors that it might be fun to have a deck crawl next weekend. I need help putting together the details of how this would actually work though. Has anyone out there attended or hosted a neighborhood deck crawl? Can you give me some ideas? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I am not sure what a deck crawl is. Is it where you go from one neighbors home to the other and eat a course. If so, here is what we do. One person from each home meets together or by phone calling others and decide if there is going to be a theme or a free for all (fix what ever you want of your assigned course.) Each person decides what course they want to serve, then the route of the homes are put in order. Some times it is fun to have a chocolate theme, finger food (no silver ware is allowed)or a free for all (anything goes). Our three rules are 1)No ingrediants that someone is allergic to 2) No alcohol in food for those you do not consume it, and 3) No one is allowed to have any decorations.

We do not include kids. Its a nice offset to the family-oriented block parties. We have a deck crawl in the fall when we can enjoy fire pits and cooler weather. If schedules permit, summertime is great though. No more than eight families are needed to host. That's 30 min per deck/patio and 4 hours. 5 to 6 decks is ideal. Each year there is a theme and couples buy tickets to defray liquor cost. Host couples do not buy tix. The theme might be "sports". So the host couple wears basketball jerseys and serves beer and nachos, for example. The next home may be football and the host couple wears football team jerseys and has a tailgate type drink/snack....and so on. Visiting couples may also dress up in sports attire.

One year we did different countries: Mexico, Italy, Ireland, USA, France with drinks/ cheeses from each country. It's a great way to loosen up with neighbors and checkout their landscaping, that you may not otherwise get to see.

Hi, We do wine aroung the culdesac same thing? Every house has drinks and appetizers. We stay at each house about half an hour and proceed to the next. So do deck to deck with really great appetizers and cold drinks. If kids are included have things for them to eat and drink and diffrent games at each house. I hope this helps a little. A.
