I would also recommend against it. I have heard of people making payments and the company not paying it to the creditors. You can make payments to them on your own without paying a 3rd party fee.

Dave Ramsey has great advice.

Are you wanting to consolidate like your subject line says or clean up your credit? That is two very different things. For cleaning it up, go with a company that is registered with the Secretary of State and bonded. Trinity Credit Services is a good company for that. www.trinitycreditservices.com

If you want to consolidate, be careful. Many companies would negotiate a "settlement" on what you owe but that will reflect negatively on your credit.

I would highly recommend not doing the debt consolidation. I worked for a mortgage company for a while and it is frowned upon the same as, if not more than bankruptcy. It is HORRIBLE for your credit and is not at all effective.

I would recommend Dave Ramsey and the Total Money Makeover. You can find local classes on his website, and as a newly married couple it would be very beneficial. My husband and I thought we had it all together but after taking this class we learned ALOT.

J.,
I don't know of any however, my sister did this and she said it hurt her credit because places look at her as if she filed bankruptcy... You could just get a print off of your credit report and contact your debtors directly and see if they will also consider reducing the amount... I know that is what the consolidation people do to get those 40+% knocked off of what you owe. These places also want to get it off their books...
