Daycare Search

I am 4.5 months pregnant and I'm having an impossible time finding a daycare with openings. I live in Dallas around Mockingbird and 75 and work in Uptown. Every daycare that I've looked at has an incredibly long wait list (50+). Does anyone have any suggestions, this is our first child and I feel like I'm searching in the dark. We would need care 5 days a week and I think I prefer a center versus someone who runs their own center in their home; however, I am open to suggestions. If you currently use a daycare you love I would really appreciate the information.

What can I do next?

I'm signed up for Park Cities Day School at Mockingbird and Inwood starting in December. I can't tell you much about it except that I liked the way it looked....

I also looked at Park Cities Community School near SMU. I liked it, but it was a little expensive for what I was wanting (I only work part-time and needed something lower cost). http://www.community-school.org/

I have a crazy spreadsheet of the places I looked into if you want me to send it to you, just send me a PM.

You've gotten great suggestions already. The only thing I want to share is know that home daycares do have their cons, but I found it to be a great place for an infant. I say that since I knew the same person would be watching over my little one and due to that would know what she wanted and could help her that much faster. The con is obviously at times they get sick and then you must take the day off. That happened to me maybe 2x a year. I found mine by searching accredited schools and went with a lady on the 5900 block of Kenwood. They too have waitlists so if you have interest check into those now too.

I live near there also. My kids are in elementary and the place they went closed, but you might try Christ Lutheran (on Lovers around Boedecker), White Rock North School (Lake Highlands), Baylor Medical Center's daycare (employees have first dibs), and Oak Lawn Methodist, East Dallas Child Development (Skillman and Oram) and Kid Kountry (Skillman and Monticello). You could also look on the web site for the NAEYC (think that's right--National Accreditation for the Education of Young Children, or something like that. They have high accreditation standards so their member sites tend to be very good and you can search their site by zip.

Hello,
I dont know if you have already found this particular daycare, but I used to live in the Uptown area and had a very difficult time getting in a daycare within Dallas. We finally got into Dealey Childcare center at Presby Hospital. It is open to the public, but employees have first dibs on getting in. The staff is great and they seem to have stricter rules than a normal facility b/c they are onsite of presby. My son was there for almost 2 years. ####-###-####.
Good Luck!!

Not sure if you would want to drive a little north, but I take my 2 sons to Children's Choice at Medical City at Forest and 75. My oldest is 3 and I have loved the 3 years he has attended this school. The director is great and all of the staff adore children! It's really hard when they graduate to the next class to leave the teachers I have grown to love and who love my children so much! They will be attending this school until they go to regular school. If you have any questions, please let me know.

I don't know if you found a daycare yet but we loved Stars & Tykes in downtown Dallas, Houston St. and Commerce. It is in a secure building and is a small daycare. They were our family for the entire 5 years my son was there! I can't stress enough how wonderful they were. And, my son learned a lot and was very well prepared for kindergarden!
