A great place to start is by contacting your local child care resource and referral agency. In Cook County, that agency is Illinois Action For Children. They will provide you with a comprehensive list of child care options in your area or areas of your choice. As well as, providing you with information on in-home care/nanny care. We live in Lakeview, and daycare centers are either really, really expensive (a few we toured were $500/week), or not nice at all. We are going with a nanny share and a nanny. Join NPN (neighborhood parent network). You can find tons of nannies and people looking to share a nanny. good luck!

Our daycare is really great in Old Irving - KidWatch Plus. It's on Ridgeway and Byron, just south of Irving and just west of Elston (between Elston and Pulaski). They came highly recommended, are not super-duper costly, and have been around for ages. Our little guy has been there since 5 months old (he's now over 2), and he loves it!

I second Kidwatch Plus. My son has been there since 16 months - he is now 4. Very professional, very clean, very safe, very fun! It is NAEYC accredited which most day care centers aren't bc it is a very difficult designation to receive. See their website kidwatchplus.com for more info. There is usually a wait list so you should tour the facility and get on the list if interested. They have a wonderful hot lunch for most of the year. In the summer they do a camp type thing with a cold lunch and a theme and field trip each week for the kids. Parents and kids are great here too! I am not sure what the weekly price is for infants, but the price goes down as the kids get older and the teacher/kid ratio goes up.
