Daycare Issues - Midlothian,TX

My daughter has been in daycare full time for a little over a month now. Ever since she started, we have had diaper rash issues. (We have never had any diaper rash issues with her before.) Luckily, I'm able to get it cleared up during the weekend, and by Monday or Tuesday, the cycle starts all over again. I have expressed my concern to my daughter's teacher, and they reassure me that they will do what I ask, use the ointment I send, and change her more often. Evidently, the state requires diaper changes every 2 hours, which is fine, except I think they let her sit in her poop, and they don't check her diaper regularly. After a horrible yeast diaper rash last week, which took over a week and a half to clear up, she came home yesterday with sores on her bottom. I came unglued! I spoke to the teacher again today, who told me its probably because of the apple juice she's drinking. The girl has been drinking juice since she was 7 months old - we've never had any problems like this! I have a feeling that the teachers leave her in a high chair or swing for a considerable amount of time, and that's the only conclusion I can come up with as to why she is getting such a horrible diaper rash. Her bottom looks blistered, and maybe the blisters have popped or something. I have never seen anything like it. After a soak in the tub, I doctored it up with neosporin and covered it with A&D ointment. Has anyone else dealt with something like this before with your daycare? I am at a loss. My husband and I are looking into a different daycare, but I'm also concerned about switching her, because she is just now getting comfortable with me leaving her at daycare, and with her teachers. Any advice?

What can I do next?

Yeist infections can take a LONG time to heal. Once it goes away, it can come back in a few days and be worse than before. My daughter and one of the kids that I watch get them sometimes. You have to continue to treat it after it goes away, otherwise it'll come back. See if this is the issue before you blame the daycare.

Well, I would most likely switch day cares, but the rash sounds more like a staph infection at this point. That needs to be treated with an antibiotic. However, it also could mean that they dont have good diaper changing procedures to prevent this from happening! So, get to the pedi, and a new day care! ~A.~

If you are anything like me, you will never feel comfortable leaving your daughter there, and rightfully so with the concerns you expressed. So, I would move her now. I know she is just starting to adjust, but if she stays longer, you will become more concerned, she will have more problems, and you ultimately will move her anyway and the attachment will be stronger a few months from now than it is now. I would talk to the pedi and I use Bourdaux Butt Paste for my daughter's diaper rash and it starts working immediately. Also, I do not have my daughter in daycare, but I spoke to a couple of mom's this week and they both like Kids R Kids. There is a location at Alma and Exchange and one off of Bethany. They have a practice day where you can stay and observe, and webcam that you can check on your little one during the day. If I have to go back to work, that will be the first place I look.

take her to the pedi and ask him what can cause the diaper rash like that and start looking for a new day care

If it's clearing up when she's with you and returning after 2 days at school, switch day cares.

They are paid to do a better job than even you when it comes to changing frequently and on schedule.

Having had my girls at a few day cares, and knowing that these things do happen sometimes, your pattern sounds like she's just not getting the particular care needed for her rash.

If you decide to switch, she'll adjust and you may feel a lot better.

used to work for a daycare and quit b/c i didn't like the way they treated the kids, the problems you speak of were very common there. most of the teachers didn't even seem to care or even would get upset with parents who tried to discuss problems. you should really try to switch, she might even be happier at a daycare where her needs are being met. also, try aveeno rash cream it works overnight for my baby girl!

Sounds like you've tried to solve the problem. If you're sure there's nothing in her diet that causing it (is she getting transitioned to milk? is the apple juice diluted properly? any other new foods or drinks that she may get at daycare that she doesn't get at home?). If you've covered all the bases and there's nothing left to do, I'd switch daycares. And don't worry about her adjusting, etc. She's so young that it won't matter. Of course, any change does have an adjustment period, but after a few days things should even out. She won't even remember the other place after a couple weeks.

Hi E.,

I saw your ad and was concerned about your daughter. I have an inhome daycare in Sachse off of Hwy 78 & 190. I don't know if that would be a good location for you or not. However it's myself the owner and a live-in aid to keept the ratios very low.

It's rare that my kids get a diaper rash unless they have bad diarhea or something.

My rate is 140.00 per week if you would be intersted.

Please let me know.

Good luck and God Bless!!!

I am not siding with the day care at all on this. They should chang the diaper when its dirty and not wait two hours. I did want to validate what they said about the apple juice. My DD, now 3 cannot have anything apple BC of yeast infections. I started giving her juice at a young age and she didn't start the infections until she was well over a year old, but once I stopped all apple anything...the rashes went away. It takes a long time fo them to complety abate. Even after there are no more bumps, continue the meds for a few days bc. the infection is still there just not visible. I had to take her off juicy juice most of which has apple in it, apple sauce, dried appl pieces, and apple puffs for her to stop getting yeast infectios.

All in all if your not happy with the daycare change. You might have better luck with an inhhome situation. They generally have lower ratios and are more attentive to the childs needs.

Good luck!

Iam very concern for your daughter. I have worked in daycare and I know how things are run and changing a child very 2hrs is a schdule but not in forced because very child is different. I know when I was a child care worker for infants and toddlers I would change any diaper at any time if needed. I think this teacher is not doing her job appropiately. I would change daycares because most of the time the directors side with the teacher so they don't have to deal with new teachers in their facilitites. If your child as never sat in her poop or pee when you had her then quit frankly then she is not used to it and therefore it can be happening in daycare. This is why when I decide to have children I choose not to work anymore so i don't have to put them in daycare for many reasons that i have seen and was not pleased. Not everyone can do this so I really suggest making a change in daycare.
