Does anyone know some names
of daycare centers and their ratios? I work for a center and it is in ratio but the ratio is 15:1. Between 2 of us teachers we are taking care of 27. The children are 3 1/2 years old. I feel it's too much even though it's accepted by the state. someone I know went to work for a company that keeps it's ratios low even though it's allowed to have more by the state. That's what I want to work for, a company that keeps their ratios low.
Wow - that is a lot of 3 year olds for 2 teachers! We go to Apple Creek Preschool (www.applecreekpreschool.com), and they keep their ratios low. Their 2 year old classes have a 6:1 ratio, the 3 year old classes have a 7:1 ratio, and the 4 year old and pre-K classes are 8:1. Personally, I wouldn't consider a program with higher student to teacher ratios for our little ones.
I agree that 2 teachers for 27 is too many. We're just starting to research preschools, but I know that Holy Family in McKinney has 2 teachers for a class of 8-10 for 2 and 3 year olds; 2 teachers for 15 (I believe) for 4 year olds. That sounds much more reasonable to me! (Of course, I also know that some of their teachers have been there for 20+ years, and they have very low staff turnover--probably not a coincidence!)

Ratios are regulated by the state. You will be hard-pressed to find a center that provides "better" ratios unless their enrollment is down. Infants are regulated at 1:4 and I believe that it increases right around a year old.
It is best to find the agency they are licensed with. City/State/County
Depends on your state laws...however, as a parent who has a child in daycare, I would always choose a center that keeps their rate lower than required. Ours does as well.
