Daughter Peeing All over Toilet... Help!

My daughter is almost 3 and has potty trained for the most part ( occasional accident still) But she uses the big girl potty now with the small toilet seat that goes on top. The problem is that she sprays all over! I thought would only have to worry about this with boys! Many times her pee seems to shoot out instead of down and it gets all over her pants and underwear. I have tried having her lean forward a little but that doesn't seem to work either. Her little legs aren't very long to straddle the toilet much more either. Help! Does anyone know any tricks that work to solve this problem?

What can I do next?

We have the same issue - thanks for bringing it up! One thing I recently read was to have her keep her legs together to keep from spraying everywhere. I guess then we just wipe her chubby legs too but at least it's not allover the bathroom rug! I'll be trying it this weekend - good luck to you!

Try facing her backward instead of forward without the extra seat. The kids seem to fit on the toilet better that way and feel more secure. Then it is easier to lean forward as well. The spray will go into the toilet this way as well. This is what we do when we are out and about and are using public bathrooms.

She has to keep her legs together. No less than 1/2 an inch apart and the pee will go straight down - shouldn't even get on her legs. The further apart her legs are spread, the further the pee will spray like a boy!

We had the exact same issue. What worked best for us was to have her keep her legs close together and kind of dip her bottom down (kind of looked like she was falling into the toilet). She thought it was funny so that worked for us. The other way was to have her put her feet on a step stool and lean over to look at her toes. Now that I think about it, the leaning over to look at her toes was a little more successful, but if no step stool is available the other way was a good alternative.

Have you tried putting the boy part on the potty seat? My daughter had the same issue and when we added the boy cup to the potty seat it blocked 99% of the spray.

Try sitting her backwards. Our Dr. suggested this with my boys plus they can see when they go.

Are you having her take off her panties and pants completely? She may need to totally remove them in order to be able to open her legs wide enough to straddle.

Also, do you feel like she is just being careless. With little boys, who miss because they are in a hurry, I always suggest having them help wipe off the seat after they are done. Not as a punishment, but as a responsibility. When you make a mess, you need to clean it up. Show her how to grab a few extra squares of toilet paper and wipe around the lid then throw it in before she flushes. Usually that chore helps even the youngest child aim better.
