I have asked this before not knowing if it was a go or not for my daughters tubes. My daughter does need them:( I am fairly new to the area and need a good ENT to do the procedure and a good hospital. I have an apt. with our ped. on Tuesday but I would like to bring in a list and ask him about some doctors. Please help. Thank you.

What can I do next?

Dr. Carol Gerson out of Children's memorial hospital is the best ENT I have come across. My son had a lot of problems with his ear canals and ear drums which resulted in 3 sets of tubes and he perforated his ear drum from infections. She was wonderful and spent a lot of time with us. He finally outgrew his problems at age 14. She began seeing him when he was 2 1/2. I researched ENT's carefully and felt very comfortable with my choice. Good luck and blessings for your daughter and you.

My son had tubes put in his ears when he was 11 months old. It took us forever to find a dr that we were comfortable going to. After a referal from our pediatrition and a few close friends, we chose Dr. Alvi. He also rotated around to a few different offices, Crystal lake, Barrington, and Mchenry. They also gave us the option of what day amd which hospital we were most comfortable with. We chose Good Shepard. He was Fantastic! very nice, helpful, answered any and every question, and most importantly didnt brush us off like tubes were no big deal. Matthew has had them in for 8 months now and has never had any problems.

Dr. Aijaz Alvi
Mercy Crystal Lake East ENT
500 Highway 22

I searched high and low for a good ENT in the area as well, and I absolutely love Dr. Standage of Affiliated Ear, Nose and Throat. The office he takes younger kids at is in Woodstock right off of Rt. 14 just outside of Crystal Lake. I guess it depends on what kind of doctor you prefer, as everyone has their own style. I love him because he is great with kids, has all the medical equipment there and personnel on staff at all times to do all the tests, puts medical terms in plain english so I can understand, is patient, but more importantly surgery is a last resort. You say that your child needs tubes, but many ENT's jump into tubes before it is necessary. I don't know your child's history, but Dr. Standage is a nice, conservative doctor. He will do tubes for sure, but he makes sure it is necesary and doesn't jump into surgery right away. My son was told by 1 doctor he needed tubes, and the doctor was a jerk so I sought a second opinion. I was so glad I did because my son ended up not needing tubes and is totally fine now. I am not a mom that is anti surgery, but it is a major thing that isn't taken lightly by me. I am also not a mom who likes to see their child in pain and suffering through an ear infection either. So, give Dr. Standage a call, I am sure you won't regret it. He's excellent!

We liked Dr. Daniel Vukas at Northwest ENT. Located next to Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove. He's only in that office on Tuesdays, which wasn't too convenient, but a he's good doctor and we've had no issues with our daughter's tubes. The anesthesiologist was fantastic, too.
