Daughter Is Having Her Adenoids out....and Her Sinus Cavities Flushed...

My younger daughter had her adenoids out, sinus cavities flushed and tubes put in. Honestly, she was better and playing 2 hours after the surgery. She was a little grumpy and she was on antibiotics for 10 days after. No side effects, the sinus wash is basically just spraying saline through the passages to clean everything out. We had great results and I am very glad we did the surgery.

My older daughter at almost 3 had her tonsils and adenoids out, sinus cavities flushed and tubes. The biggest difference between the two surgeries is that the tonsils was much more difficult and painful of a recovery. I think that she reacted negatively to the anesthesia, possibly a delayed allergic reaction? I don't know what they told you, but with the older the recovery room time before leaving was I think 3 1/2 hours. Bring something for you to do. She slept almost the entire time in recovery room and then they want you to give them a dose of medicine before they let you leave. The one she had was alcohol based, so she hated it b/c it burns. I think her recovery was about 2 full weeks, but again we had the tonsils out. After recovery the results were good and I am really happy that we did her surgery.

My daughter had it done when she was 2. When she came out of the anesthesia, she was really groggy for most of the day. She just slept and didn't want to eat much.
The next day she was in a little pain, but it was totally managed with some ibuprofen.
With in 2 days she was up and acting just fine.

My daughter had her adenoids out last year when she was 2. She was groggy and a little out of sorts for a day or two and then was fine. She'd had one ear infection after the other and hasn't had one since. Adenoidectomy is a very straightforward surgery. I don't know anything about the sinus cavity flush, though. Best of luck.

My daughter had this done when she was 4. She was really irritable and groggy after surgery. They said sometimes anestesia makes them moody. She pretty much laid around all day and watched movies. She didn't want anything to eat but drank plenty of fluids.

Day 2-3 were the worst. I guess it was when the scabs were healing or something. She was really emotional, refusing to eat and mostly worrisome refusing to drink. Her ENT said as long as she had fluids that was the most important. So I had to force fluids for her which was awful. All she did was lay and watch movies. It was good because she was resting so she would heal.

By day4-5 she was eating more and more....mostly yogurt and icecream and still drinking plenty of fluids. I gave her Pediasure alot to make sure she was getting calories and that seemed to work. She was also getting stir crazy...she wanted to get out and play with her friends. I just had her take it easy.

By day 6 she was asking for fries! And totally back to normal.

My daughter had hers out when she was two... she was groggy/grumpy after surgery and still a little whiny/clingy the next day but then did great. We gave her otc meds for pain. Her surgeon had performed hundreds of these surgeries on young children without any serious complications.

Previously she had chronic ear infection and fluid in ears so getting the adenoids out and ear tubes in helped tremendously. Her hearing and speech improved right away.

As it heals though you will notice the worst bad breath ever!
