Yesterday morning my 10yo daughter informed me that she was having really bad back pain, painful urination, blood in urine andalso just wasn't feeling well. I took her temp and she had a fever. She used the bathroom again and showed me her urine. There was a lot of blood in it. So much at first she brushed it off thinking she had started her period. As soon as I saw it I took her to the er. They firstcollected her urine and took her vitals. She was no longer running a fever because I gave her advil He said he thought it was just a uti. Her urine came back with very high red blood cells white blood cells and something else I can't remember was very highsaidthey needed blood drawn an hour later he came in and said it was an uti gave her a dose of antibiotics and sent us home. The nurse told me she should be feeling better quickly and if she runs a high fever or starts throwing up bring her back in.

Today she is feeling worse her back pain is worse. She screams and cries when she uses the bathroom and feels horrible. She's still bleeding a lot when she uses the bathroom and look very pale. I am planning on taking her to urgent care tonight to get a second opinion.

My question is has anyone ever experienced something like this? I've had utis before and have never had one where I ran a fever or had horrible back pain. I am scared its her kidneys and some how that got ovver looked.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I ended up taking her to the urgent care. He looked over her and looked at the lab work the hospital did. He said the hospital put her oe wrong antibiotic and gave her a new one. He said give it two days and.if shes not improved by then to go back and see him. He said rarely does it spred to the kidneys in children and it shouldnt be a concern.

Do not mess around with this. Even if it is a UTI it can progress very rapidly to a kidney infection. I ended up in the hospital in my early 20's with a sever kidney infection that progressed from a UTI.

The blood and fever are concerning and ANY infection is nothing to mess around with. I would see a different doctor ASAP.

I would not wait till tonight I would take her in right away. She's worst. It has probably gone to her kidneys if not a stone. I have been admitted to the hospital for a kidney infection. Have her drink lots of water and cranberry juice. PLEASE don't wait till tonight.

Your job is to be her healthcare advocate and in this case, she needs additional medical help ASAP. I'd be heading back to the ER or urgent care right away to get this addressed. She shouldn't have to suffer.

I am not a doctor, but if this isn't her period staring, blood in urine is not a good thing. It could be her kidneys. She needs to be re-seen asap. I would take her back to the ER now rather than later.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL TONIGHT... TO TAKE HER BACK.
TAKE HER NOW!
Now... please, take her now.
WHY... are you waiting until tonight???????
She is in bad, shape.

You wouldn't want her to get a blood infection. Sepsis.

TAKE HER NOW TO THE ER.
NOW.

Her kidneys, could shut down.
She has a bad infection of some kind.
The meds did not work.
They told you to take her back if it gets worse.
IT IS WORSE.
DO NOT WAIT.

She needs, to be admitted to a Hospital, and be under hospital care.
She should NOT be at home, but should be AT a hospital, RIGHT now.

AND IF YOU CANNOT GET HER TO A HOSPITAL, PLEASE... CALL AN AMBULANCE. NOW.

This is an emergency... not a "wait until tonight and take her to an urgent care for a 2nd opinion" situation.
This is an, emergency.
She sounds to be in BAD shape.

If it were me.... I would be calling an AMBULANCE right now.

I read an article once, about a model who had a UTI. She got medical care too late. And by then she had Sepsis. And she died.
Here is the article:

Fever and back pain are signs of a kidney infection. I used to get them frequently without signs of a UTI. But, the medicine worked very quickly, as the nurse explained. I always felt so much better within 24 hours. I'd take her back to the ER ASAP.

Have you called your daughter's pediatrician? It's always a smart idea to keep that person in the loop prior to going to the ER. I hope that she feels better soon.

It is more than likely she may have kidney stones. I currently have blood in my urine and severe bladder pain, back pain (kidney). I have kidney stones right now. She needs a CT Scan. Go back to the doctor, and push for more testing.

Take her to a urologist or doc that works in that area. Obviously what the docs in the ER did isn't enough. They usually give that pill that turns the urine orange because it numbs the UT and peeing doesn't hurt anymore.

Poor little one. She needs some relief!

There are different antibiotics for different things so the urgent care Dr. may be right. I would still keep an eye out - a friend of mine had these same symptoms and it was kidney stones. Very painful indeed.

It could be a kidney infection as a result of a really bad UTI. I would get her into the urgent care ASAP today. She should be improving by now since its been 24 hours since antiobiotics started. I dont think I would wait until tonight if that is at all possible. Hugs to you both!

ERs are pretty much for life-saving measures. Take her to her own pedi or an urgent care center or a urologist, but not back to the ER. They won't do any more than they already have.

It may be cystitis, which is a bad UTI/Bladder infection. And her urine will have lots of blood in it, sometimes it may look like blood alone. Urination is very painful, and you have the constant sensation of needing to go, but, nothing happens. Antibiotics and lots of water/cranberry type fluids are recommended, no baths, etc. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
