My first son always got really bad diahrrea after amoxicillan when he was young. My second one doesn't have any problems with it though. It's a completely normal side effect.

My daughter had the same problem with an antibiotic. We gave her the activia yogurt and it helped. I dont think your suppose to do that with a 3 month old though. I would deffinately call the doctor and ask for a different antibiotic because my daughter ended up being allergic the the antibiotic she was on. Also ask if they can prescribe "magic butt cream". They can call it into a wallgreens for you and it works really well on a diaper rash. Also if the creams aren't helping and she has a diaper rash that just keeps getting worse call the pediatrician because it oould be a yeast rash. Yeast rashes are pretty common after a child has an antibiotic. hope this helps.

T. - sometimes that is a side effect of being on an antibiotic. I know my pediatrician has always told me to increase the yogurt consumption when he has placed my boys on any antibiotic - you might call the doctor and see if that would help at all. You definately don't want her to become dehydrated. Best of luck, L.

Well your daughter may be allergic to the amoxicilin. I know that when the dentist put me on vicadine (spelling?) I felt nausea and had diahrreah and I am 20 years old.

Sounds like she might be allergic to the antibiotic. My daughter also had this prob. Her bottom was becoming so raw from all the diarreah. You should start putting on a thick coating of destin and call her doctor about this. They'll prob need to put the baby on something else depending on how much longer you have to go with the med. Is you daughter 3 months still? Thats awfully young to be putting her on antibiotic. Is this a breasfeed baby? Breastfed babies already have runny stools, but the chances of them getting sick so early like this is very rare.
My daughter was 2 when she was on antibiotics for the first time and I has stopped breasfeeding her at 9 months so I knew the runny stool was from the antibiotics. They didn't want to change her med at the time so I just put thick destin on after every changing and it helpt to keep her bottom from getting red. Good Luck!

Try the BRAT diet for a couple of days, see if this will help. It's banana, rice applesauce and toast. J. C.

Hello T.-Unfortunately this is a possible side effect of the antibiotic. Just make sure you increase her fluids and use a good butt cream so she doesn't develop a bad diaper rash. I like to use Calmoseptine you can buy it at the pharmacy counter(they keep it behind the counter but you don't need a Rx) Also try what's called the BRAT diet which consists of Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.
Best of luck to you and your little one.

Hi T.,

Diarrhea is a pretty common side effect w/antibiotics. It usually subsides once the body adjusts to the medication, but if it persists, or if your daughter is not taking in a lot of fluids, you should contact your ped. because you don't won't her to become dehydrated. I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but if she's eating solids, it's good to give her yogurt (preferably something organic like yo-baby), it will help to maintain the good bacteria, which should help eliminate the diarrhea, and will also help prevent oral thrush or a yeast infection. Good luck, I hope this helps.

My daughter had the same problem. If she were eating I would say to give her bananas and/or applesauce but at three months I am not sure what to tell you....I don't know if you can even give her pedialyte at this point yet.....I would call the pediatrician...with it being a holiday weekend I would still call the on-call doctor cuz she is too little to wait and have her get dehydrated. Good luck.

The pharmacist gave me the wrong antibiotics for my son and he came to my house just to get it back and give me the correct one. He explained that they were similiar but the wrong one causes nausea, and diareah. Maybe the doctor can prescribe a different antibiotic. Good luck, K.

T.~that is a common reaction to amoxicillian. Just make sure that while your daughter is on it that she eats yogurt. This will help stiffen her up and help the medicine due its job. My kids have the same problem. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about your little girl. I have 3 boys and they all got diahrrea. The only thing that I could do was change them as soon as they went. I also put diaper rash creame. Desitin on them with each change, to help prevent a diaper rash. It is normal, Hope she is feeling better soon.
