I haven't had much luck. I think that is partlly me though, I get scared to meet in person! But I guess .... just be safe, meet in public, etc.

3 of my closest friends met their husbands off of! Be careful, but it does work for a lot of people! If you have children be VERY careful! Look for other parents to date, but don't let anyone know you have children initially.

I love online dating. it did wonders for me. I refused to pay for online dating, it just felt weird paying to find a man to date. so my friend recommended its a free dating site. she met her now fiancee there. (when she told me they were just dating). within two weeks i think, i started talking to my boyfriend. this site is awesome because it lets you look locally, as well as around the state, country, and world. my boyfriend and i actually knew each other. i was specifically looking for someone who was a father. his profile said he was, and he talked about his kids on it. which made me comfortable seeing that i had a daughter. so i started talking to him, it turned out i had known him for years, but we hadn't talked since high school. he was 3 grades ahead of me. i had a crush on him back then, so it was awesome that it matched us so highly. we've been dating 6 months this saturday. we're getting engaged (he already has the ring, just has to ask for my hand from my daddy), and we just moved in together two weeks ago. i'm so thankful to my friend that recomended this site. tim was actually my first date. i was supposed to have one other but the guy stood me up. :) i'm so happy that i ended up with tim. email me and i can tell you about hte site if you want. best of all, its free... and i've heard many more success stories from this site than all the pay sites combined.

My Aunt met her husband on line, they are very happy. But you do need to be careful, always meet in a public place and drive yourself to and from. You can never be to careful about meeting someone you met online.

I met my current (2+ years) boyfriend at a Speeddating event. That way I got to meet 12 guys briefly in one evening, in person. You talk with each guy for about 5 minutes, and you only need to decide if you would be willing to go to coffee or dinner with any of them at a later time. No pressure. I liked the in-person aspect.

I was on for a while and went on several coffee dates that didn't lead anywhere. If I did it again, I think I'd be better at knowing which to pursue and which not to. Of course, just as I ended my subscription, there were suddenly several very interesting men emailing me...

BTW, I always tell potential dates that I have a (now) 8 year-old daughter. They need to know about and be OK with that fact before I waste any of their or my time. (Every other man out there is not a pedophile). But of course, they would not meet my daughter until much later in a relationship.

Lots of people meet online but if you're a mom, be very, very careful obviously, to keep dating separate from your kid(s). LOTS of weirdos out there too.

I met my husband on, which surprised me b/c I didn't want to go online. My girlfriends and I were tired of meeting men "out" and all registered at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I went on a couple of horrible dates, but I also met my husband. We had different circles, so we would not have met otherwise!

I have had numerous friends meet their spouses/partners online!

Yes, go for it. I met my husband on Robin F. has some good suggestions and what she says is very true. I was on match for 2 year and on e-harmony and only went on 1 date in all that time. Mind you, I had thousands (not exaggerating here) of men contact me, but I was very particular and knew what I was looking for in a person. The 1 date I went on before meeting my now husband was a nice guy, but the chemistry just wasn't there.

Definitely be totally honest with who you are, what you look like and what you're looking for in a person. It is easy to get discouraged, but it can happen. It's a lot like looking for a needle in a stack of needles though;) In this day and age (and at my age at the time - in my late 30's), it was the best way to meet men. Bars - no; Work - no; Friends - no...where else then really you know? Online made sense, but I was in no hurry either. Just be sure to not be naive (there are a lot of men looking for booty calls), and be clear in what you're looking for in a mate and never settle (true with any dating really).

Good luck and have fun!

my advice is definitely try it! I tried online dating and first person I actually decided to meet in person we've been dating for over 3 months so far. So i think it's always worth a try! plus you can find out about if they r comfortable with kids and everything before meeting them and you go at your own pace!

YES to online dating! I met my now husband (married on August 7th 2010) on e-Harmony .... yep! amazing, right? Well, it sooooooo totally worked for me. It was my first attempt at online dating and my now husband was my very first date off e-Harmony. He, however had gone on two dates before he found me and asked me out.
I have a friend that got married because of it and another one that is engaged and happily planning her wedding.
Now, the process is a real pain, tons of questions that don't really make a lot of sense at the time, but boy THEY DO in the end. So, just a lot of patience to answer every single question and u should have a happy ending just like many people incluiding myself has.
Best of luck and I am sure there is someone special waiting for you.

I've never experienced it personally but I know two people who have very good success stories from online dating. But my daughters small group leader from church apparently keeps ending up with the socially awkward guys. Good luck to you!!

It can be fun, and an ego boost. I went on several great dates with guys I met through, but never fell in love with any of them. My best friend married and had 2 kids through online dating... but they are divorced now, and the divorce was not pretty -- so not sure that she would recommend it. Lots of people meet online. It's part of modern life. Look at all of us, chatting and getting advice from virtual people... it's all just one great big sea of humanity. I say, go for it & enjoy yourself!

Online dating was an awful experience for me and I'll never do it again. I paid for and got hit on by men waaaaay too old for me, and a lot of creeps. Most people on dating sites tend to use older (and more flattering) pictures of themselves, at least the guys sure did! One man got furious at me for going onto Facebook to speak to family but not messaging him and responding to him, this was after he told me to move to Colorado with him and bring my daughter....1 week after talking to him. :o/ Next guy pushed me to meet way too much, when I told him so and told him there were other people to talk to who weren't so pushy, he told me "Yeah skanks like you have lots of guys." :o/ had lots of creepy old guys and more pervy guys looking for hook-ups, same with, it's a hook-up site and anyone there will tell you that, I had it told to me a lot. Plus you can never really know who a person is online. It's safer to do in person dating or meet someone through friends or local activities. Good luck with whatever you do! :o)

My dad's wife of 10 years and he met through online dating. I tried it when I was younger and met one nice guy, but not a keeper. I also signed my mom up for it, but have never spent the money, just put a profile up there and let them do the contact. I wouldn't put all your eggs in that one basket, but it does open up some different venues that would be closed without it.

I met my husband on So I guess you can consider us a success story. We've been married for over 4 years, been together for over 6 years. And together we have an awesome 21 month year old daughter. My husband does have a son from a previous marriage.

Advantages - lots of guys to choose from, you can take your time and get to know them through their writing and talking (my suggestion - don't rush it) . Just one of many ways to meet someone.
Disadvantages - they can lie, sometimes it feels like your looking for a needle in a haystack, can easily get discouraged.

Suggestions - Be honest about yourself without giving out too personal info. Meet only in public places.

If you want more info let me know. I'd be happy to give more info.

Good luck!
