Hi I am 27 years old and have the same problem. I've found nothing to work, my doctors say it comes from my parents. If you find something that does work can you let me in on it. I would love to not look so tired all the time. N. in Hou-TX

Like others have said, allergies are usually the culprit- particularly milk! He should eliminate milk for a few weeks and see if they improve or talk to an allergist.

Many times dark circles are indicative of a vitamin deficiency. It can also be an indication of kidney problems.
He should get some bloodwork done to make sure it's not just a vitamin issue. He should start taking multivitamins.

Hi L., If it isn't just heriditary, maybe have him tested for a B vitamin deficiency. That's what it was for my son and I both. Good luck. I would also do some research online to find out what dark circles are symptoms of. Then, have the doctor rule out each one.

My sister used to have pretty dark circles under her eyes and I was amazed at how much Lighten Up Plus eye cream from Avon helped to get rid of the darkness.

Your fiance, if he's concerned, could rule out any medical problems, allergies, etc. Could be heredity. He could go to a dermatologist and I believe they can inject something to get rid of them. I have that problem too, but attribute them to my newly acquired diabetes. I really haven't tried to solve my problem as of yet. Good luck! Let me know what you find out. I am very interested. Actually, I just found out from my Dr. Susan Andrews at Mainland Allergy Clinic that those circles many times are a part of allergic reactions to things like dust mites and mold that are common in everyone's bedrooms. I bet that is it. If it is not that, the Fotofacial laser will get rid of them. It will replace the collagen cells that are missing around the eyes.

I'm gonna quote from a book on Macrobiotics by Christina Pirello called "Glow, a prescription for radiant health and beauty".

"Dark skin color under or around the eyes occurs when the kidneys and adrenal glands grow exhausted and can be caused by the excessive consumption of dense, dry, or salty foods as well as excessive strain from activity and stress. With this condition, the function of the kidneys grows stagnant and the organs themselves dry, and over time, if ignored, the individual will grow weak with constricting tightness in the lower back."

What to do? One of the Accupuncture school in town may be able to help with a diagnosis, if he's open to that. They may prescribe herbs. He may have to adjust his diet, if he's willing.

Hi L.-

Has your fiance ever been tested for food allergies? Dark circles around the eyes are a common sign. My son is allergic to milk and always had dark circles until we adjusted his diet.

Good Luck!

Allergies can cause dark circles under the eyes also. He may try to go allergy meds for a while and see if it improves.

Is this an inherited trait? Do other family members have this also? In my family my Great grandfather on my dads side had them and so do a few of my cousins. They can be covered, but not really made to go away.

If it were temporary, drinking water and rest is the only way to really get rid of them.

The idea about being tested for allergies certainly could not hurt. It would be interesting to see if this helped.

Please try to get to root of problem, usually it is from the inside out. Has he tried detox diet (brown rice, veggies, fruits, beans/lentils, avocados, walnuts, almonds) all as organic as possible. Drink no less than 8 glasses of water a day. Avoid (dairy, gluten, high fructose corn syrup, msg, hvp, and fd&c colors). Organic coconut oil can be used topically. Does he get enough rest? Does he take a whole food vitamin (no dl-tocopherol, fd&c colors, gelatin). I am a big fan of Barlean's (Omega Man), great Omega 3, 6, & 9 & prostate health. I hope this helps. C

If he has dark circles he is not getting enough restful sleep at night. I would have him ask his doc about it and possibly schedule a sleep study if nothing his doctor suggests works.

Good Luck. ;-)
