Damp Closets

Ladies any recommendations for how to handle damp closets? I'd prefer a green/ renewable solution if at all possible. The bedroom especially seems to suffer from this. Then again, it might be my overactive preggo senses. :)

An electric dehumidifier won't really work as there are no power points in the closets.

The damp is due to NY apartment dwelling. A lot of heat and humidity combined with little cross ventilation. We'll have another month or so to suffer through, then when the building turns the heat on, it will be hot and dry.

Thanks a bunch.

So What Happened?

I bought a three pack of closet hanging damprid at Bed Bath and Beyond. The "fresh scent" type was a bit overpowering. I'll try for unscented next time around. Already water is accumulating in the receptacle, so I gather it is helping tone down the damp.

Thanks a bunch for your help.

Get a bag of charcoal briquettes and put some in a coffee can or plastic container and leave them open in a corner of your closet.
Charcoal absorbs moisture.
I had a leak in my windshield on my car and things got really damp inside.
I kept briquettes in the back and you'd be surprised how well it works.

Just replace every other week or so.

Best wishes.

There is a product called Damp Rid that you can purchase at Target. You can hang it in the closet and it absorbs the dampness. It works great. I use it in my bathroom.

High humidity has been a problem in our house every summer. This year we used Damp-Rid and it was amazing the difference it made. I highly recommend it.

Do you know WHY the closets seem damp?
Could there be a leaky pipe under the floor?
Does the closet back up to a bathroom or water heater?
I don't know but it seems to me there may be products,
like kitty litter, that absorb dampness.
Do you have (something like) a County Extension service
in your area that can answer questions like this?
About the electric dehumidifier . . . .
if there's a wall outlet anywhere on the same wall as the closet door,
you could run an extension cord along the baseboard.
Tape it down so people don't trip on it.
