Cyst in Baby's Brain

I'm currently 8 weeks. I had spotting this morning, called doctor, got an ultra-sound. Bleeding not a problem. Although the baby's growth and heartbeat looked great, there was a huge mass in the babies brain. The doctor said it was a cyst, and set up another US with a neurologist. I went home and read all I could and found some encouraging articles on Choroid Plexus cysts. I just don't know if my baby has that. The cyst is very large and seems to take up the entire space for his brain. Does anyone know anything about cysts on the brain, especially this soon, at only 8 weeks? My heart is broken, I don't know what to do or feel?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had my follow up visit today with the neurologist, and the mass in the baby's brain is gone!! There were still spots, but was of no concern. We will still have a couple of follow-up ultra-sounds to make sure everything is still ok. The baby looks great, and was really active during the US! Thank you all so much for your prayers. God's will was done, and luckily it was in line with what I wanted to happen too!

My husband and I went through this with our oldest son. After suffering a miscarriage, we finally got pregnant again. At my ultrasound, they found he had cysts on his brain. They said it could be a sign of some syndrome. THey scheduled a more in depth ultrasound with a specialist 1 week later. That was one long week! But, my husband and I were ready to accept whatever the outcome. We loved this baby no matter what! At the second ultrasound though, the cysts were gone! And we had a healthy baby boy. We were so thankful, everything turned out okay! The doctor said that some cysts were common, and can go away on their own, but they wanted to be sure. We were fortunate, so I pray that your outcome will be just the same!

Hi P., I don't know anything about cysts unfortunately. Just know that this is your baby and you will love him/her no matter what. I'm sure you're feeling scared and overwhelmed, I know I would be. Be encouraged by the fact that the heartbeat and growth look great. I will keep your family in my prayers!

My experience is similar to another. My doc said their may be fluid or a cyst on my sons brain, but when I went to a Maternal Fetal Medicine doc, and saw the same thing. Baby came out fine. I would wait and see what your neurologist says. It could just be that the ultrasound is positioned at a difficult angle. Prepare for the worst, but pray for the best. God will take care of your family.

my daughter had a Choroid Plexus Cyst, they found it at 16 weeks. That, in combination with my hormone levels, my daughter had a 1/60 chance of having trysomy 18 or 21. (mental disorders).
I had an amnio done, to see if we needed to prepare for a special needs baby, and it was negative.
It was more stressful worrying about the results, than just waiting for the next US to see if the cyst was gone. After doing my research (I'm a nurse now), I found out that a great percentage of babies have them, and they disolve by 30 weeks. (as did my daughters).
Keep faith, and hopefully everything will turn out ok.
