Have any of you moms ever gotten pregnant after your husband had a vasectomy? Like maybe it didn't work.

What can I do next?

My husband's youngest brother was conceived after a 12-year successful vasectomy. I also have a friend whose youngest child was conceived after her husband had a vasectomy - it was immediately after they got the OK from the doctor, so maybe the tubes weren't really cleared out yet. I have heard of a few others too, but don't know details.

I have a friend whose husband had a vasectomy, and then a couple of years later they found out she was expecting their 4th child. So I know the chances of it are very rare, but it does happen!

Hi. I actually know a couple that BOTH were "fixed" during previous marriages, and yet ended up pregnant naturally. She found out on the day she went in for a pre-op check up to have her tubal ligation reversed!!! I'm sure the chances of this are somewhere in the millions, but it has happened...

Yes! I've heard of couples having babies after Vasectomy. Also when the woman has had their tubes tied. The dr. told my daughter when she had her tubes tied that neither the vasectomy or tube tied is 100%. But if you make it 7 yrs after either of these surgeries then you probably will not get pregant.

I've read that men still have about 30,000+ swimmers after the surgery. Most doctors will advise you to use birth control for a while afterwards.

I haven't, but my brother's wife did. The doctor's don't always do it perfect. :-)

Not me personally...but it DOES happen. I've known maybe 30 cases? (From working in a women's clinic for a year). It can literally "not work"...or the vas deferens can actually regrow, creating a new path.

So too, women can actually regrow/heal. They're both statistically rare.

But, yup....it happens.

Not me personally, but the nurse at my OBGYN's office did. She and her husband had 2 kids and they were done had a vasectomy and SEVEN years later she got pregnant and had a baby girl! They learned that the procedure did work for a while but apparently the Vasdeferen (sp?) grew back together!! This has encouraged me with my husband to have him checked every two years now. My husband had the big V after our 4th. baby and it has been almost 3 years, he was tested that 1st. year and he will go back this summer and every other summer after that!! I have heard several other friends talk about too and I know it does happen!!

Yes; happened to a girlfriend. She and hubby had a girl and a boy and were done. Lo and behold, here come twins, a boy and a girl. Life is funny, isn't it? And yes, he did not get checked after the surgery. That seems to be the consistent thread in the tales of babies after vasectomy.

Yes, this happened to my friends too. Apparently a man is supposed to wait a certain amount of time before having sex again and my friend didn't wait and got his wife pregnant. They now have another baby girl.

My brother-in-law's older brother had a vasectomy when he and his first wife decided they were done having children. They divorced and he remarried. 2 or 3 years into the marriage, his new wife ended up pregnant. Over 10 years after the procedure had originally been performed, it had reversed itself.

I have a friend who got a vasectomy however he and his wife did get pregnant about 2 years later. They say that it is only 99% effictive and apparently my friend was one of the 1%.
