Crockpot Brand Recommendation

My husband and I just purchased a Kitchenaid Crock Pot and when I took it out of the box, the lid does not seem to fit correctly. When we researched the crockpots, it seemed to be the most highly rated but then after seeing this, I googled the issue and found a good amount of complaints about just this issue and about the base cracking.
We are returning this one and plan to buy another one. We are novice crockpotters so, I am asking you fine folks- what brand do you love and why???

I like my westinghouse from Kohls. I had an old
Rival brand that was great, but the pottery chipped so I bought a new Rival and it was a piece of junk, got WAY to hot, it should have been called a "Fast" cooker!

Rival is the original. I have 2 a round and an oval. BOth have removable liners. Use both constantly and have had no trouble with either!

Hi,

I don't have one, but I have been looking into them and I plan to buy a Hamilton Beech. From what I have seen they have been highly reviewed (except the stay and go I think it was called). Many of the reviews of the Rival (original Crock pot) brand were pretty negative. I think it had something to do with the temp being too hot.

The one feature that sounds important to look for is a timer so you can set it to cook for a certain amount of time and after that it will just keep the food warm.

good luck

We love our Rival. Whichever brand you get, be sure to get one with a removable liner. It makes cleanup so much easier.

I have a Rival one with a glass lid, and my mother has another brand (I forget which) with a plastic lid. I am thinking about getting a second one, so that I can cook in bulk for my family of healthy eaters. lol I mentioned to my mom that the glass lid one doesn't fit properly and lets out steam and she seemed to think that perhaps they are supposed to let out some steam. I'm not really sure why or how much, but I had been just putting aluminum foil over the top--which I used again later when I put the left overs into the fridge still in the crock. I guess before I buy a second one I'll probably do some online searches to find out if they are supposed to vent or not. Good luck!

Hey J.,

I have a Rival Crockpot and love it! I`ve never had any problems with it. I`ve had mine for 4yrs now. I love the fact that I can put a roast in there with a little water, let it cook on low all day and it`s tender moist and done for dinner. good luck with choosing a new one!

Rival is probably the oldest brand out there. That's the brand I currently have and have had over the years and have had no problems with it at all.

I just got a Hamilton Beach 3-in-1 Slow Cooker with 2-, 4-, and 6-Quart Crocks which I now LOVE. I had a rival for years - until my husband "accidentally" dropped it. What's great about this one is the crocks come out so you can easily clean them. Also having the different sized crocks allows you to use the one that's appropriate for the size meal you're making. Crock Pots work best when the crock is 2/3rds full, so it's not really one size fits all for the best meal prep.

Good Luck!

I have a crockpot myself and love it! It makes it easier to prepare meals before going to bed or work then they're ready to serve when you get home or shortly there after! Unfortunately, I can't remember what name brand is on mine and mine's currently in storage so I really can't check. I think my mom's might be a kitchen aid as well, but I am not sure. I would say to check out web sites of several department stores to see which brands are out there and google them just as you did your kitchen aid one. It might also be something with that particular size model only. After all, crockpots come in different sizes. The day care I worked at had them in different sizes based on how many children would need bottles heated at a given time. Smaller infant rooms had smaller crockpots as they would only have 1 or 2 children that needed bottles heated at the same time while the larger rooms would have larger crockpots as there was a good chance with them needing 3 to 4 bottles heated at once. There are also different shaped ones as well. My mom has a family size oval one yet I have a family size round one. You may also want to ckeck www.crockpot.com. You may be able to find some links in there as to where you can buy that brand. Good luck.

I have three crock pots and found that the ones with glass lids (GE and Rival) don't make a tight seal. Its probably so they can vent steam.

My other old one has a plastic lid with a slide vent and it fits with a tight seal. But if I keep the vent closed the cooking liquid bubbles up around the edge of the lid and vents itself. hmmm

So if fact any brand will work the same.
