Go to annualcreditreport.com

This is the OFFICIAL LEGITIMATE site that the federal government required the three credit reporting companies to set up. You are eligible for one credit report from each of the three every 12 months.

You will not have to pay anything through this site, nor will spam email or anything.

I pay $12.25 a month to get my credit report and score whenever I want it through my bank, USAA. These come straight from the 3 reporting agencies.

I am shocked that the company is not pulling it though. I have never head of that...

You have to go straight to the source. Equifax, Transunion, and Experian. I think the third one is right. You have to have all three and the only way you can get them is to go to their sites and pay for them. The free ones don't have the information an employer is looking for.

Most employers pull it themselves, kind of strange this one wants you to bring it in.

I agree that most employers will ask him to sign a third party agreement and run the report.

That being said, if you still need to do it yourself, you can get a copy of your credit report free from Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. Just go to their website and follow the instructions. You can get one copy free every year.

This is different than getting your credit/FICO score. You usually have to pay (or sign up for a service) to get this information.

You need a credit REPORT. Which contains your credit history!

Equifax.com
Transunion.com
Experian.com

All three of the major credit rating companies.

If you bank with Bank of America - you can subscribe to the credit watch service for $12.95 per month.

If you bank with USAA - you can subscribe for $7.95 per month.

Most companies who are hiring run the reports themselves so that it can't be manipulated by the consumer. So I am wondering why they are asking him to provide it.

I'm surprised the new job doesnt do it. I know my company would never accept a credit history handed in . They usuallhy have you sign a third party and get it themselves. Ask your bank (if that is the company you are comfortable with) or the employer which credit reportiing company they use then call them and have them do a credit check. I'm sure they will charge for it. Remember everytime you check your credit it affects your credit

Normally the employer runs the credit and background checks. I've never heard of a legitimate employer who made the applicant provide his credit history/report.

We had to run our own credit reports when we were moving to a rental here.

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

We ended up paying around $35 for it, and having to sign up for some $14.95 montly service that we later canceled without issues.

The employer should be running the credit report not your husband. Your husband should have signed a release form for the employer. Its like you running your own background check.

I believe you can go directly to each of the major credit reporting companies (Experion, Trans Union... not sure what the names are) and request 1 free report every 3 or 4 months?

It is suggested that you DO check your credit report frequently..... one suggestion I heard was to take the 3 major companies and request 1 from them one month, then 4 months later, go to another company and request their credit report, and so on.....

You can go to "freecreditreport.com" but they "say" it is "free", but actually, I believe you have to sign up for their paid credit monitoring services.....

I got a free credit report by applying for a credit card (American Express). They turned me down. I then asked them for a copy of my credit report. If you get turned down for a loan or a credit card, they are required to give you a copy of your credit report if you ask for one.

As for me, I found out Sears had me down for a $32 charge off. My wife and I had gone in and purchased two pair of slacks for her. We tried to use our Sears credit card. Sears woudn't ok the charge and asked us to give our current address and financial information. I charged the slacks on my Mastercard. 7 months later Sears sent me a past due notice for the slacks. I called and told them what had happened and they had refused to let me charge the purchase. They said they didn't believe me, but if I could show where I had charged it on my mastercard, they would remove the charge off. I called mastercard and they told me they only kept record of charges like mine for 6 months. I went round and round with Sears. No luck. My wife finally paid it to get the blot off our credit report. That was back in the mid to late 70's. I told Sears if they didn't refund the $32 I would never step foot in one of their stores again unless they had something I couldn't buy anywhere else.

All of my suits, white shirts and ties, tools, etc were Sears. All of my kids clothes and a majority of my wife's clothes came from Sears. I haven't been into a Sears store but twice in 35 years. They lost my business for 35 years for $32. Smart move Sears. I was so happy to see them in bankruptsy court.

Good luck to you and yours.

There are three credit reporting agencies. Equifax, Transunion, Experion. You can write to them requesting your credit report and they will mail it to you. You are allowed one free one per year per agency. But if your husband needs it for a new job, the company should pull it themselves. They will need his signature on an application before they can process. Google the names I gave you above and you can get the agencies phone numbers and addresses. It might be a lot quicker to call.....
