Creative Party Favors (Help!)

Daughter is turning 3, and birthday party is next Saturday. I don't know about you other moms, but I want an alternative to all of the chinese dollar store toys that the kids bring home from parties -- I want something creative and useful (but still cost effective, since there will be probably more than 20 kids!!) Keep in mind, these are kids of all ages, and both boys & girls.
Idea I had was a coupon to some place for a free sundae or cookie, or something like that -- what are your thoughts, and any suggestions for that (since I don't know where to or if that exists), or any other ideas?
Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

LOVE so many of your creative ideas -- thanks a bunch! I hope to use some of them in the future. This time, after a good friend told me that "it's crazy for people to go to a BD party and expect to bring something home", I decided that I'm just doing something very small...Candy Canes! And, as always, I have a room full of balloons for the kids when they're here and I have them take one home with them. But with the RSVP of at least 50 ppl at my house, this will make it easy. thanks again!

We don't do party favors. But, I've done things like make playdough to play with and then take home, or a craft kids can put together and take with them. The playdough was a great hit at my son's 3rd birthday party. I made small batches in the colors the kids asked for. Then you just keep it in a zip-lock bag or tupperware container and it lasts forever! It's super cheap too :)

How about letting the kids decorate their own cookies that they can take home or gingerbread man; they may be a little young though.

We have always given $3 worth of McDonald's gift certificates to each child. I believe that is still enough to buy a Happy Meal!

My sons 1st birthday party is today. I got all the kids/babies (only 9 total) an ornament that looks like a frosted gingerbread cookie cutout that is the letter of their first name. The main reason I did this was because we had more than half the kids under one, but honestly they are soooooooooo cute, and I think the parents will be really happy with them. I got them at Kohls, who was having a sale on them for like $2.00 and with the amazing 30% off coupon I ended up getting them for under $1.50 each. Im sure they will be on super sale from now until xmas

What is the theme of the party?

Could you do a craft that ties in with the theme and then you would have an activity to do and a favor. Try Oriental Trading, Michael's or one of those stores. There are usually a ton of different things you could do.

Hi,

My son received a cute lidded cup (clear plastic) with an attached straw that went up the side, actually. The mom had one for each child, she had written each child's name on the cup with some kind of paint that didn't wash off, and they used them to have juice at the party. No one spilled anything or used the wrong cup. This was a while ago so I don't know whether these cups are still made. Good luck

I don't know where you live but PARADISE CAFE gives out coupons for free cookies. Might want to check DAIRY QUEEN as well. You just have to tell these places that you've hosting an event and need coupons. Might even want to check out bounce and play facilities and see if they would give you coupons. It might say something like, 30 minutes free open bounce w/ purchase of 30 min play/bounce time or whatever. Anything to bring them more business.....

I try to put things like bubbles, fun straws, etc. in their party favor bag. These are things that ARE useful and fun, too. I know what kinds of thing Abbie likes, plays with or uses and don't just create clutter.
