A good friend of mine made copies of the ultrasound and sent that to close family and friends as an annoucement, this maybe an idea for the parents. Maybe put the ultrasound in a nice frame for the parents. :)

do they have a dog that they consider their child? If so...make the dog a t-shirt that says, "i am gonna be a big brother" or some other creative saying.

I don't know if she would be interested in this idea, but a friend of mine did it and it is the way we announced our second to our parents. We had them over for dinner and the table was set with little baby type things at their place settings and a Grandpa and Grandma brag book for them. The brag books aren't expensive or can be made cheaply. They could take the parents out for dinner and just present the brag books to them at the table if they would rather do it that way.

I have a friend who emailed a link to a webpage that had the ultrasound picture and the announcement.

My first pregnancy was the first grandchild for both sets of parents. At the time we lived two states away from them. I bought mugs that said "Grandma" and "Grandpa" and mailed them to them--no note, no explanation, just the package. They loved it!

Hi Not sure if anyone else wrote this but a old co worker of mine was expecting her first and they invited both sets of parents to dinner and gave them the ultrasound in very pretty grandparents frames. She said the reaction was the best.

K.,

If they are planning to share the news around Valentine's Day, they should make a Valentine with a rhyme inside and give it to their parents.

When I was pregnant with my second child just five months after having my first, it was nearly Christmas time so I waited and on Christmas Eve I gave them all ornament books that I made on the computer that had a rhyme "The Best Gift of Christmas" immitating the rhyme from "Twas the Night Before Christmas." At the end, it announced in rhyme that the baby was going to come the following August. I printed each rhyming page on the computer and then backed it with red and green cardstock and then bound them with string so that they hung on everyone's tree that year. Everyone (especially my mom) went crazy since they weren't expecting a second one so soon.

How about something like: "Girls are pink and Boys are blue; We're dropping a hint and the Stork Will Too!" Since you are good at crafts, maybe you could help her make something really cute.

Ours was fun and memorable and I was able to save one for my daughter so she knows the special way she was announced! Best wishes and a fun announcement to your friend!

I wrapped 4 pairs of baby socks that I printed "Coming Nov 27th" on and we handed them to both sets of grandparents before dinner. It took them a moment, then they realized what was going on! Congratulations to your friendF!

hey K.. i just had my first baby a year ago, and to tell my parents i went out and got two bibs one said "i love my grandma" and the other said " i love my grandpa". i put them both in gift bags and told them to open them. it was pretty funny because you could see them slowly putting it together and watch every emotion on their faces. and it's really nice now because they use those bibs when my daughter is over there eating. and each time she puts it on they say somehing about when i first gave them those bibs

Well seeing that Valentine's is just a couple weeks away they could get Grandma & Grandpa a gift or card from their grandchild. Another idea... this is one that I did....I found a maternity t-shirt that said "Coming this Winter" that I wore to my parents house for lunch. When my mom first read my shirt she kinda looked puzzled.... and then asked what was coming in the winter. Then it just clicked for her. With our 2nd we told my MIL we were expecting on April Fools Day. My DH called her and told her we were having quadruplets.... she's at first was like what?! Then he broke the news that we weren't expecting quad's, but that we really were expecting again. My friend did not live close enough to her parents to tell them in person.... so she sent a bouquet of flowers to her parents w/ a pacifier tied to the card that read something on the lines of "please hold onto this for when I come visit, my mommy will probably forget it". Another couple I know who live several states away from their family & friends sent an email picture of the pregnancy test that read "pregnant" to everyone. There's tons of creative ways to break the exciting news... get creative!!! Congrats on the pregnancy to your friend!! :)

This is what we did for my first child.. My mom was camping when we found out about the new arrival and I could not wait for her to come home. So we took lunch to her at the camp grounds. We ordered a pizza and I had cut up green peppers from my own garden and wrote BOY or GIRL out on the pizza. But on the front of the box we wrote "IS IT A" and then she opened the boxes and read the boy or girl.. She was very excited.

For my second child I told my husband by ordering a crossword puzzle with all baby stuff (pacifier, bottle, diapers, mommy, daddy..ETC..) I also including our names and the names that were had been considering..

Good luck. Hope these ideas help

I didn't do anything quite as elaborate as some of the other responses. I took a picture of the pregnancy test with my cell phone and sent it to my family (b/c most of my family is out of town). It was fun to see how long it took them to figure it out and then the calls poured in.

It's been fun to see how people told their parents the big news! Here's how we did it with out three...We found out we were expecting our first child close to my birthday. Both sets of parents were going to be together with us that weekend to celebrate, so we bought some baby socks (red, white, and blue because the due date was close to the 4th of July), and wrapped them up. I unwrapped them and said, "I don't think these will fit me!" Pandemonium ensued :-) With our second, we had big sister wear an "I'm the Big Sister" shirt under a hoodie and had the grandparents unzip the sweatshirt. With our third, Big Sis was 3, and loved the Backyardigans' "News Flash" episode, so we videotaped a news flash: 4+1=5. We've had a lot of fun announcing our new additions, and it's cool to see other people have too. Good luck to your friend!

We took our parents our for dinner at a Chinese restaurant and switched out their fortune cookies with some that we had made that stated we were expecting. The fun part is you can change up whatever you would like the fortune to say. Their faces and reactions were priceless!

When I found out I was pregnant with my first child my PLAN was to cook dinner for her. Everything I was going to cook was going to be "baby" food. I had planned to make baby carrots, and some veal (since that is basically a young cow). Everything was going to be baby or at least referring to a baby. She can even tell them it is a theme dinner and see if they can guess the theme. Well that was my plan until she found out a few days before my big dinner. I wish your friend the best of luck.
