Crazy Question About Hubby's "Smell" - Possible TMI

So.... we've been together forever (since 1989). And I LOVE my husband's "smell", usually. Problem is, just the last 2 or 3 months, he smells "different". Not necessarily "bad", but not like the man I married. (Same goes for his "taste" - if ya know what I mean. ;)

WHAT COULD BE WRONG!? Could it be aging? (His? Mine?) Could he be ill? Could it be a change in diet? We're both going to hit 40 in the upcoming year. Could it be hormonal? (Lack of? Too many?)

Just someone, anyone, please tell me what the heck might be going on! It's starting to affect our love life, and it really upset him when I clued him in to what was going on with my nose.... which, of course, affects the responsiveness of my nether regions.

Help!

What can I do next?

VERY interesting. Has he changed his diet? Has he had his annual physical yet this year? If not, ask him to go in and get tested.

It could be hormones. It could be diet.

If his breath is "sweet" smelling - have him tested for diabetes.

GOOD LUCK!!

What you eat can effect how you smell and err, taste. Start there. :)

Diabetic? Could it be many medical reasons, I would ask him to go to the doctor just in case. If medical is rule out, then maybe he is just getting older.

If absolutely nothing "else" changed.... he needs to go see he doctor.

Over 20 years of smelling and tasting the same... and then a sudden change in 3 weeks is probably a sign of something being wrong. The two that leap to mind are infection or diabetes. Mens hormones cycle every day, and stay that way from puberty until near death. They're pretty stable. If HIS hormones are off, well, it's pretty rare. I would really think; infection or diabetes off the cuff. ASSUMING none of the below have changed

Changes that nix the drs appt:
- medication (including vitamins and other OTC meds)

- diet NOT ONLY WHAT he's eating... but what he's not. Ketosis has a very distinct smell. As do several other biological responses to diet. Dairy, for example most westerners cannot smell, but to asians... people walk around smelling like sour milk

- drink changes (coffee, no coffee, soda no soda, water no water, etc.)

- dehydration (dehydration smells awful)

- exercise

- starting smoking

- quitting smoking

- sour laundry (really, the smell gets into our skin, and after a few days doesn't scrub off for *some* time)

- etc.

It's possible it could be a hormonal issue. Has he recently started taking any supplements or medication? Has his diet changed or been eating a lot of something. These all can have an effect on body odor and yes, taste. Have him eat more fruits such as pineapple and drink lots of water with lemon. His ph could also be off. Hope this helps :0)

second Riley J completely. Found out my ex had developed type 2 diabetes and sugar sensitivity, exactly by what your describing. He didnt notice anything but I did. I noticed as well his breath had almost a sickly, syrupy sweet smell.

Your hormones can also affect your sense of taste and smell. Have you noticed anything that might indicate your hormones are changing?

I know what you mean that each man has a smell and taste. Some are pleasant and some not. When this has changed, I agree with the others that said it could be diet, but I also think it would be best if he had an all around medical checkup. There could be something physically wrong (like diabetes) to have made this change. They can check his hormone levels, if other things check out normally.

You got good answers for skin smells, but you need to check and see if it's just his head/hair that smells. My hubby started smelling too after years of marriage and there are days when nobody wants to be near him. We've always eatten garlic, so I knew it wasn't that. Discovered it's his head! His hair became extremely greasy to the point that he has dandruff. We started making him wash his hair more frequently and the smell went away. The minute he skips washing his hair, the smell starte again. Now if we can just get him to change that nasty smelling shampoo, things would be perfect.

what he eats and how hydrated he is makes a difference. ask him if he has been drinking enough water---also energy drinks and coffee can make it change. Good luck with this---
