Crazy Lady Pain

Hi all. I am very frustrated with doctors right now. I have been having pain in my lower right abdomen for some time now. The have done ultrasounds and now a CT and they cannot find anything wrong. I sometimes run a fever with it but not all the time. The pain comes and goes but it has been here for the last 3 1/2 weeks. I have a hard time doing my housework and I cannot sit at the computer for long times because it hurts so much. Since I go to school online this makes it hard for me to do my school work. I was wondering if anyone else has had anything like this and if so any suggestions on what kind of tests I should suggest from my doctor.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know that I did a so what happened but I told you that I would post when I found out what MY doctor said. She told me that I do have a cyst and I have a tumor on my adrenline gland on my upper right kidney, but that probably isn't what is causing me pain. The CT Scan didn't show a hernia but it did show that there is a possibility of one. So I have a new CT Scan scheduled and an appointment with a surgeon to find out if he thinks it is worth going in and looking at it.

It sounds similar to my symptoms and I have Crohn's. Have they done a Barium x-ray or colonoscopy? I hate to jump to that, but the symptoms can be very subtle at first. I went 5 years and through several drs before I finally got desperate and just went straight to a gastroenterologist. That lower right area you are referring to it the illeum which is usually where Crohn's affects. The fever thing is charecteristic too. Let us know what happens.

A doctor friend once told me that abdominal pain is one of the most difficult things to diagnose because there are so many possible causes of it. Do you have any other symptoms? I had such severe lower abdominal pain, worse on the right, that the doctor was convinced it was my appendix. My white count was also elevated. It wasn't the appendix. After a colonoscopy and an MRI by process of elimination I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). In retrospect I was able to recognize other milder, symptoms that had been going on for years, but didn't know what caused it. You should have some additional tests done, get a 2nd opinion if you are still not satisfied and get a chiropractor's opinion. Good luck--you aren't crazy!

I had excruciating pain in my lower right abdomen for years before a doctor finally discovered endometriosis in my abdominal wall. Apparently it usually isn't there, but had escaped because of a poorly done c-section.

Does the pain seem worse right before/during your monthly cycle? If so, it may be endometriosis as it feeds on the hormones associated with your cycle.

A laparoscopy/laparatomy might be in order to find the source of the pain. Exploratory surgery isn't fun, but it may at least find the source of the pain and possibly remove it if it's endometriosis.

I don't know if a CT/ultrasound would find the endometriosis. I know the ultrasounds I had never saw it - it took a laparatomy to find it.

Hi S.
There are Many things it could be I would ask for a cat scan first you may have a cyst or some endrometriosis I have had lower right side pain that has always turned out to be endrometriosis. If you don't get anywhere with one doctor go to another until you get answers. I am dealing with upper right side pain and have been for 2years now and I am still looking for the right doctor hang in there it is so frustrating when they don't find anything. Good Luck T..

My husband was dealing with right side pain that was terrible and went in and found out he had Hepatitis C. I guess people can get it and show up 10 to 15 years later. Also before 92 needle practices weren't safe in tattoo parlors and transfusions weren't checked for it. So people have it and don't know it. There is a good description of it and symptoms (there are several others too) on web md.

Dear S.,

Over the last 7 years I have had this happen to me 3 times. Each time I get a run of test done & everything comes back normal.

I have been to OBGYN (started here as I do has PCOS) & ruled out cysts (I do know what that feels like & it is not the same) a general Phys, gastro intestinal, ER, had ultrasounds, blood work, CT. All come back normal except a very slightly elevated white blood cell count which quickly returns to normal. I also have had low grade fevers but of course by the time I get to the doctor it is back to almost normal (I have a low body temp to begin with so that does not help me when I am at the doctor & tell them my temp is elevated & they say it is almost normal).

Eventaully it goes away & I am fine. The only thing thay all keep saying is it sounds like my appendix but the tests come back normal. After the 3rd time I had this occurred I talked to my aunt & she said that she would have the same problem when she was younger & after several years her appendix did burst. After it was removed the doctors asked if she had had problems with it before as her appendix showed scarring & signs of periodic flare ups.

The only thing that we could determine is that possibly my appendix is flaring up but my body is fighting off the infection good enough that blood tests are good, temps is mostly normal & it is not inflammed enough to show on ultrasounds & CT scans.

The only thing that the doctors told me the last time was that to really detetmine what was the problem they would have to do exploratory surgery & I am not willing to do that.

If the pain continues try a different doctor. Get copies of all of your records & make sure that every doctor & specialist knows what the others have done & recheck their work. I hope you can determine what the problem is. Good luck!

This could possibly be from endometriosis? Sometimes this is very difficult to pinpoint, but could possibly be corrected with a laparoscopy (surgery done through a laproscope inserted in the navel). Maybe ask your OB Gyne about this possibility?

I don't if you are having any other symptoms, such as gastrointestinal? I have Crohn's disease and it originally presented itself as lower right quadrant pain. I was tested repeatedly for appendicitis but finally a gastrointerologist diagnosed me with Crohn's. I hope this info is somewhat helpful. Take care.

I would suggest asking them to do a colonoscopy. This way they can see your intestinal track better to rule out things like: IBS, Crohns, Colitis, Diverticulitis. Good Luck!

It could be your appendix as it causes phantom pain when inflamed...meaning that the pain could be anywhere but where your appendix is. I would also suggest a colonoscopy to rule out any problems between the small and large instine. Good luck to ya hun, I'll keep you in my prayers because I know how scary it is to be in pain and not know why.

This is not crazy lady pain. I am going through the exact same thing. I had the same tests done including the mri. With me they found I have a huge cyst on my ovary plus a a bunch of little ones. With the pain they also found I have a hernia. I guess it is rare for some women to have this hernia, the only fix is surgery.
I have had a few Doctors tell me it is all in my head but, when my husband would see me in pain he said to the doctor it is not in her head.
I feel your pain. please let me know what is going on. I have my appointment today to find out what else we have to do.
Best of luck,
Barbara

LOL-I love your heading! Have they done an ultrasound of your ovaries? That's the only thing I know of, only because I had problems with my right ovary when I was younger. When I was 15 or so, I went to several doctors for pain in my lower right abdomen - at first it was just during intercourse, but later it was all the time. I was told I had IBS among other things. Finally I went to a women's clinic and they said I had an ovarian cyst. Then when I was 18 or so, I had the same kind of pain again. My Dr. said it was not another cyst - I had to argue with her forever to order an ultrasound, and when she finally did, it was another cyst. I really don't remember what they did for it - I didn't have them removed, I may have been put on birth control to help. Sorry for my rambling! I would make sure they rule out an ovarian cyst, though, through ultrasound, not through an exam!

Good luck, I hope they find out what is wrong soon!

I had the same thing about 10 years ago, I kept going to my ob/gyn thinking it was a lady problem, he did all the same tests you had and they too came back normal. He told me if the pain is still there (some days worse than others, couldn't stand too long, sit for too long) he would do a labroscoptomy (spelling??) which he ended up doing and diagnosing me with (hope your ready for this one) Ingunal Hernias Left side and right side. So you might want to have your doctor do that to at least rule it out. If it is a hernia it is an outpatient surgery and recovery for women is quick.
Good Luck

Sometimes my ileocecal valve gets stuck open.......and it's painful..maybe not quite the
pain you're describing..but it is painful. It's a small muscle only on the right side between the small and large intestine (there's lots of google info). If they are sure that it is NOT your appendix, then maybe have them check it? I've partially given up on western medicine and I see a holistic chiropractor (who closes this valve) for more comprehensive care. Good luck! J.

Did they do an x-ray? I know that the gall bladder can cause pain in many different areas. I had pain in the lower rib area like a knife in my side. My co-worker had lower ab and back pain.

I hope whatever it is doesn't turn out serious.

S.,
What has been ruled out so far? What kind of doctors have you seen so far? Are you doing all this through your regular general physician? I would ask for a referral to a specialist in internal medicine. From my experience, they love to run tests. Their whole practice is based around finding the root causes of the symptoms. So don't go to them for the flu. They will want to run every test under the sun to discover WHY you got the flu in the first place, rather than just treating the symptoms.
Keep me posted, S..

Bummer. It is so frustrating to have drs telling you that nothing is wrong, it is all in your head, ect... You know your body better than anyone. I would suggest seeing a naturalpath or someone who deals with homeopathy. They are generally better listeners any many times will find things that drs did not even think of looking into. Good luck!

Try checking your galbladder. I had abdominal pain...with fever on and off for 20 years. The Doctors could never find out what was wrong with me...I had and upper and lower GI test. I had a colonoscopy and I was told that my intestines would temperarily fold back in on themselves....blah blah blah. The last time I had major pain that sounds like yours it lasted 3 days and I could not even sleep. I went into the ER and just told them to do whatever because i could not live like that ....the doctor asked if I had ever had my galbladder checked and I said no. She checked it and scheduled surgery for the next week. when my gallbladder came out it was the biggest that they had ever seen with over 100 stones in it....AND the best news is that I have never had that pain again. Good luck and dont give up. Pain is NOT normal.

I have had similar pain that ranged from my lower abdominal area up to my rib cage. After ruling out everything else. They suspected an ulcer or reflux to be the cause. It turned out to be reflux which is easily treatable.

Hello S.,

OMG!!! I am going through the same thing right now. But my pain is more in the middle and left side but still painful all along my lower abdomen. I was at the doctor yesterday from 10:30 am until 3:30 under going blood work and ultra sounds. I do not have an appendix and I have also had a colonoscopy a few months back. My pain is so bad it wakes me up about every hour and makes it difficult to walk. All my test came back normal except my white blood count is elevated. So for now I have been given 2 strong antibiotics and need to see my doctor again on Monday and if things worsen go to the ER. I would love to hear from others for more options as well. Thank you for your post and I will keep you in my prayers. Good Luck! T.

I have a friend who went through a lot of pain and it turned out to be kidney stones. Hers was caused from too much salt, but they can also be calcium deposits. I would have your doctor check you for that. She said it hurt so bad that it almost felt like she was in labor. It took her doctors many months to figure out what was wrong with her.

Hi S.!

Sounds like it might be appendicitis. Did they do a CBC? Have them check your white count and do a sed rate, Don't give up and don't let them tell you nothing is wrong. Also sometimes, I know it sounds funny but people have a lot more fecal material in their systems then they think.
This may cause the discomfort. The fever is a big indicator that there is major inflammation/infection going on! Please don't let this go on any longer. Insist they do more tests! Might be an etopic pregnancy. Do you have any nausea? Could be a number of things, not sure if a fever is associated with endometriosis, Gall bladder usually only flair up after fatty meals are eaten, Did they rule certain things out?
Best of luck!
