Cradle Cap...1 Year Old

My daughter just turned 1 and still has cradle cap. We've tried scrubbing it off with a washcloth, soft brush, and even a little harder nail cleaner brush but nothing seems to be working. We've tried leaving baby oil (we've heard it works as well as Olive Oil) in her hair before and that isn't helping either. Can you suggest anything that might work? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the tips. I'll get some Selsen blue tomorrow. Yes...I am still using baby shampoo - I had no idea that could be contributing to the problem. Thanks!! :)

I ditto the Selsen Blue. While the scalp is still damp, take a soft baby brush and brush brush brush until all the cradle cap is gone. You may have to repeat it several times before it's all gone.

Hi, My daughter had cradle cap too when she was 1.She had little brown spots on her scalp. The pediatrician at first just suggested putting baby oil on scalp but when it didnt clear up....she suggested Neutrogena T- Sal shampoo and it was gone in a couple of months....

Hopefully that helps...

Selsun Blue works well, the original formula. I think our pedi told us to use it every 2 days because it's not tear free then once every 2 weeks as maintenance. (It'll leave her scalp with a funky/medicinal smell but it should resolve the problem.) Also, are you still using a baby shampoo/bodywash? That can be causing the problem, switch to a true shampoo like Johnson's Buddies or Suave or L'oreal Kids.

My pediatrician said to use Selsun Blue shampoo everyday for about a week (use a soft brush on her scalp when you wash); then once a week after that. It took care of it. The only caution, don't let it get in her eyes. It will burn.

my son is 9 months old and also still gets cradle cap. Every month or so we put olive oil on his head about an hour before he takes a bath. Then in the bath we scrub his head with a soft brush. That seems to take care of it for about a month until it starts to come back. Then we do it again.

We had to use hydrocortizone cream and anti-dandruff shampoo on my son since nothing else worked. It cleared up very quickly. His pediatrician advised us to continue treatment for one week after the skin completely clears up to prevent return.

My daughter's doctor suggested Selsun Blue, it helped but she hasn't used it really regularly so the cradle cap is still there.
A hair dresser suggested Nioxin to my other daughter, it did work, but it kind of tingles and is a little uncomfortable. The cradle cap would start to lift from her head and we could use a soft infant comb to get it out of her hair.

http://www.surfacehair.com/PDF/products_awaken.pdf Take a look atg this organic product we carry. I suggest you speak with Surface before trying this product but we have had conversation about this working. This and the bassu oil. Amazing products. I am at a training class and asked the question of one educator for Surface and they recc. the purify shampoo. They also say that baby shampoo makes cradle crap worse. Another item is sheets either silk or high thread count.

Regular yellow listerine on q tip or cotton ball and leave on few minutes and brush out then wash, totally easy no harm. Talked to Dermatoligist about it before trying it (heard it from a old lady) and she said its actually been studys done on it.
