I have a 3 month old that has cradle cap pretty bad. Is there anything I can use that will help get rid of it? The only thing I have tried is baby oil and scrubbing it with a soft brush. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I bought some cradle cap treatment at Walmart that was in a sage green bottle and you just put it on in the bath and then just a soft brush to scrub it in and the scales come off really easily. It is mostly vitamins and oils.

Try California Baby liquid wash for washing it has no bad stuff. Also I swear by Burts Bees Buttermilk lotion for moisturizing all over, works to help keep diaper rash under control too. Both products can be gound at most Healthfood stores.

right after he/she gets a bath, while her head is still wet, put vaseline on it. it helps the water on the head to be absorbed into the scalp. It's a bit messy but my son's dermotolgist told me to do that for any kind of dry skin, my boys all had excema and cradle cap. It actually does help. THey also have prescription shampoos you can ask your pediatrician about but the cheapest way is just vaseline. it works to seal the water into the skin or scalp and alleviate the dry skin.

my daughter had cradle cap also at this age. If you look in the baby soap section there are oils for cradle cap, just put it on about and hour before you give your baby a bath, then just wipe it away with a wash cloth. Also if it gets really bad, my dr. said i could use hydrocortizone 1% only. and that worked really good. It will eventually go away, i wouldn't worry too much about it. My daughter did have hers though until she was about 12 months, but it wasn't too bad at all at that age. I hope it works for you.

My son had very bad cradle cap and diaper rash. I found out from another mother (not from the pediatrician) that my son was allergic to something. A simple test with an allergy doctor proved that he was allergic to milk products. I stopped drinking milk and eating dairy products (I was breast feeding at the time) and everything cleared up and my son outgrew his allergy to milk products.

Using the baby oil is good and a widely used method. Just be sure not to abrade the scalp too much... or it will bleed. Some babies just have more cradle cap than others. Here is a link for some help:

I know it's not exactly pleasant looking, but it will pass.
Good luck and hope this helps.

I would not use anything but Johnson's baby shampoo. When you wash her hair, always wash it with a brush. Like massage her head in circular motions. I would also not bathe her more than twice a week. I remember the nurses saying not to wash your baby until she/he smells sour...Of course that might be too long, but the point is that babies do not need to be bathed or washed that much..It's bad for their skin. I wouldn't use any special products...just the plain old Johnson's original..Hope that was cool...I hope it works out..

I used Arbonne, and it is a little pricey, but you just use a little of the oil and shampoo and it goes a long way! If you want to get in contact with someone who sells it let me know and I will give you her info.

Good luck!
