Could It Be?

Hi Mamas! Here's the story, my husband and I have been trying TTC for awhile now, having trouble because he is out of town 5-6 days every week. I also have a very irregular period. My cycle is usually anywhere from 30-40 days. I get so excited every month that "this is it" when it starts going longer than 30 days. Well as of right now I am on day 39 and have no "signs" that I usually have before my period starts. It is so hard to not get my hopes up but I want that baby so bad. I guess what I am asking for is a little encouragement and if this is not it ideas to make this process easier to make the likelyhood of conception better. I have heard some mention of Clomid before, anyone know about that? Thank You Moms!

P.S. To those who know me personally please keep this on Mamasource. Not ready to let all this out to fam and friends. Thanks!

What can I do next?

It doesn't seem like y'all need anything more than more time together! Babies can't get made if you're miles apart. :)

If you're not pregnant now (and here's hoping AF stays faaar away for the next 40ish weeks!) you may want to try using an Ovulation Predictor Kit and make sure your hubby is home & ready when you ovulate!

I agree 100% with the poster who suggested reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. My hubby and I use NFP only and it has helped us space our 3 children naturally and without any chemical/medical intervention. It also helped me learn so much about my body....when I have cycles (we have spaced our kiddos with 2 yrs between each...we have three....this means I've breastfed quite a bit and, thankfully, never ovulated while doing so, therefore I don't often have cycles!) they range about like yours (around 35-45 days). With charting and talking with my chiro about hormonal imbalances, I learned that I sometimes have anovulatory cycles. Knowing your body will help you to learn if and when you are ovulating. Though most OB/GYNS will say to wait a year before testing for possible fertility problems, this book points out that if you know your body well and you know when you are ovulating, it should not take more than a few cycles to get pregnant. If with charting and trying to conceive during your most ferile days does not get you preggers within a few cycles, then you may need some type of fertility testing done to see if the problem is with implantation instead of conceiving (remember that fertilization is considered conception, not implantation; implantation is when the conceived baby embeds itself into the endometrial lining of your uterus). Clomid is not for women who are ovulating regularly, since the purpose of clomid is trigger ovulation. Clomid also causes higher rates of multiples b/c it can stimulate the ovaries to release more than one egg at ovulation.

Hope this all makes sense! I'm nursing while typing with my wiggly 8 mo old! (and I'm also sorry for typos!) :)

Best wishes! Keep us posted! Hopefully, all this talk of clomid and medical interventions is pointless b/c you could be pregnant! Woohoo! And even if you're not pregnant this time around, then it could still be a simpler issue, such as you and your hubby not having enough "fun" at the right times of the month!!!!

After an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, and surgery, it took us
1 1/2 years to concieve. I was on Clomid for 3 months and no luck. Come to find out, I only have one working tube, so it was slowing things down for us. Take it easy and try not to stress.(I know that's easier said than done)
The month that we finally gave up and said we were done trying, we ended up pregnant. I was just stressing WAY too hard about it. And now, I have a beautiful, bouncy baby girl who is 5 months. Try to be patient.

I am not sure I can be of much help other than prayer to you. I do know that you need to quit stressing about it though...I did at first too and once I relaxed and gave it to God, I was pregnant.

Keep some tests on hand and once sufficient time has passed for you to be considered late on your cycle, take one. Also, talk to your OB/GYN they may have suggestions for you as well.

God bless you!

I hope you're pregnant!! That would be wonderful! If by chance you are not, have you ever read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? It is EXCELLENT at helping you learn how your body works, even with irregular cycles. It'll help you learn when you're ovulating (after the fact), help you learn signs of when you might possibly be fertile, etc. I would highly recommend reading it if you haven't. If you do have something wrong, it also can help you figure out what it might be - such as if you luteal phase is too long or short, etc. It's very interesting and has helped many couple who thought they couldn't have babies to finally become pregnant after years of trying.

As for clomid, my sister has used that. It has helped her conceive her child. She has PCOS and she doesn't really ever ovulate but about once a year. Clomid was a blessing for them. But I would suggest reading the above book if you haven't already before trying Clomid because Clomid does have side effect, though I don't remember what they are.

Pretty much any time you have any cervical fluid (discharge) it means you might be fertile. If you read the book, it explains that the discharge is actually necessary for getting pregnant, as it helps transport the sperm to the needed area;-) If that sounds weird, read the book, it has even more weird things, but it makes so much sense and really opens the mind up to understanding the timing of getting pregnant.

Good luck and hopefully you'll be prego!!

Hi R.,

I know that this is very stressful because we went through the same thing. They say unless you have tried for a year then just keep trying. But that is a long time, isn't it? But I went to the OB/GYN thinking I was pregnant and instead she told me she suspected I had Polysystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS. I said. what?! She referred me to the Center for Reproduction in HEB area. I said, what?! LOL I went through much poking and proding until they agreed that is what I have and then I took Chlomid. I got pregnant on the first round with my first child and when I went to have my second my new OB/GYN just let me take it from her. It took 4 months with my second child and they also had to couple it with metformin. So, I am not saying you have that, but it's something you can google and check the symptoms and see if they fit. Are you heavier than you used to be or have you always been overweight? This is a big indicator with PCOS. But not everyone who is overweight has it. Basically if you are going 40 days between your periods you may not be ovulating, therefore, not getting pregnant. But I know there are other reasons as well. I am guessing you already know what they say about when you ovulate, how often to try, etc. If you want to ask me anything about these types of questions or anything further after checking the websites for PCOS (especially if you have a bunch of those symptoms) then please send me a message on here. I would be happy to answer any questions or just give you support. I will be praying for you to get pregnant asap. God bless you. Take care.

I have irregular periods also and had trouble conceiving with my second child. I bought the book, How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby by Shettles and Rorvik. It has a proven method for conception by charting your temperature each day on a chart. After a couple of months of doing this, I discovered that my cycle differed each month, but eventually I noticed a pattern and got pregnant. My little boy is now 9 months old! This might be helpful since your husband travels so much and help you to feel like your doing something. Good luck!
