Cosleeper and Diaper Changes

I'm expecting my second, and I used a bassinet with my first. I'm thinking of buying a cosleeper for my second so that I don't have to get out of bed in the middle of the nite after nursing. However, there is something I don't get. My first needed a diaper change at every feed. I'd have to get out of bed anyway, which would defeat the point of having a cosleeper. Or is there something I'm missing. Cosleeper users, how did you handle this?

What can I do next?

I kept diapers, wipes, and sanitizer by my bed. (and a garbage can!) I'd only get out of bed for dirty diapers. We got a lot more sleep that way!

I had my baby in my bed with me, with diapers and wipes on the night stand if needed. I don't remember changing too many diapers overnight, definitely not as many as the times she woke to nurse.

I guess I would see how wet baby is, and decide to allow SOME wetness before changing... like if they awake 3 times over night, but the middle diaper is REALLY wet, I'd change them in the middle night nursing session instead of all 3 times.

I kept diapers and the box of wipes in the co-sleeper, too! I did co-sleeping with all four of mine and didn't move then out of my room until they were 12-18 months: I waited for each to want to be in his/her own room. Love the idea of the red light - wish I'd known that. I just did everything that needed to be done in the dark. Even if baby was going to be up for a bit - we stayed in the dark room.. There was no way I was going to let them know early on that lights could be turned on during the middle of the night!

The co-sleepers are so worth the investment and you can even find them at consignment shops.

Good luck with baby #2!!

For my second, I never used a cosleeper, he was in bed with me, but I think my response would be the same. I didn't get out of bed. I had a small light next to the bed (with a 25W red bulb because I read that red light is the least disruptive to our sleep cycle), diapers, wipes, and one of the small waterproof changing pads that you put down on cribs. I simply nursed, he pooped, I sat up, turned on the light, and changed him right in bed. Never got out of bed unless I myself needed to use the bathroom. Very easy. Lots more sleep which you need with your second! Congrats and good luck!

I have my 8 week old in a cosleeper right now. there are pockets on the side where I keep diapers, wipes, changing pad and change of clothes. So I still have to sit up but everything is right there and I barely have my eyes open throughout the process. Oh yes-and don't forget the burp cloth. I've used the cosleeper with all 3 of my kids and I really found it helpful. I also like just being able to look over and see my baby. And a night light makes things much easier.

Congrats on #2!

I 'm the mother of 2 & 4 yr old girls and used co-sleepers with both and love it. My baby's room is located down the hall and and around the corner from the master suite so making that journey countless times through out the night and day during the 1st 8 months of a baby's life can really burn you out., especially if you are feeding every 2 to 3 hrs and responding to little cries in between. The co-sleeper I purchased included a changing station with extras storage compartments, which also converted into a traveling playpen. It was stationed at the foot of our bed so both my husband and I could get to them during the night. We could do everything right there in the bed. I also stationed the diaper genie there as well.. Even if the baby woke up between feedings we could stay in the bed and rub her back until she fell asleep again without leaving the bed. It also saves you a little money on purchasing a baby monitor. We didn't need to purchase one until almost a year when we transitioned them to their bedrooms. Good Luck and Congratulations on your expected little one.

Keep diapers and wipes on the nightstand and a small wastebasket next to your bed, you can empty it in the morning :)

I have always just changed my baby's diaper right in the bed. If it's peepee of course. Poo might need the diaper table ;)

Diapers and wipes have been on my nightstand for the last um, 6 years!

Hope that helped. I know it was a pretty simple answer, but sometimes that is the best way.
Good Luck!
